I submitted an online form for more information and did not hear back. Upon calling to confirm that my form was received, I was told that I had not received a response because they were not currently offering the language that I wanted...glad that I called so that I could at least search for another provider. Not a good experience. Had I been seeking a more common language, my interactions *may* have been better, but this was a clear message of "We wouldn't get any money out of you, so we didn't bother to respond." I'm a teacher and I work for another school. I have never made a negative review about a school before. Language Loop owes me an apology. The girl I spoke with on the phone was very rude and professional and she still owes me an apology. Whether you are a student or a teacher, avoid Language Loop and find a school to work for that has values and respects others. I was offered a job training on Saturday, I called them to ask for the Zoom link and they told me that they will send it to me at the end of the week. Today is already Friday, and I still haven't received any updates as they promised. I called to communicate and the girl I spoke with was being rude to me and told me that if im not interested in this job it ok and then she hung up the call before I could even say anything. I called back and she didn't answer my calls and they emailed me that they were busy. Which is no excuse for being rude and professional and just hanging up?! All I did was tried to communicate because I didn't receive any update from them as promised and they havent sent the Zoom link! and the girl was rude for no reason and just hung up and sent me an email that they are busy and refused to communicate or even apologize for what they did. When I asked a friend to call them, they called her back! (because they were so busy right) despite them being rude to me and hanging up on me and promising a job training. So my friend merge the call, and I was able to tell the girl that I am withdrawing my application because she was being rude and unprofessional and I will report them to the business bureau and I also hung up on her just like how she hung up on me. For your information Language Loop, my time is very valuable and important as a teacher and no school will hang up on anyone even they are very busy. You wasted my time and you were very disrespectful and didnt even apologize. What kind of a business treats people like that? It was my right to communicate and ask because you offered me a job training but didnt send me a Zoom link or any updates as promised, then you just decided to be rude and unprofessional and then you hung up? Also I will expose you to the business bureau, don't waste the time of other teachers or anyone. I am just glad that I work for a school that values people and treats people with respect and they respect my time and they always keep their word. I took French here a while back everything about my experience was great. The school is very accommodating to help the students with what they need.: They check up on you after the first lesson, the people at the desk are VERY friendly, the director of the school makes everybody feel at home. Language Loop is not your typical language school, it is a lot more that. Their policies are explained upfront so I don't get why the negative reviews (2 out of so many) are writing about policies that 1.make sense 2.they agreed to before even signing up. I attended this school so I could learn Polish. My class was small (three people) and the instructor gave us language practice and a little info about culture in each class. At the end of the session, I knew enough to feel confident with self-study. I find myself drawn to the LL family, once again, as I try to get my Spanish back. I'm looking forward to working with the school for a long, long time to come. read more

The prices are more reasonable than other companies AND it doesn't feel at all like a company; like Julie M. said, it's a community! They have get togethers every for some holidays and they are interested in you. I took Dutch alone here (no one else wanted to learn at the moment) with Dini and loved it. She was super prepared for our lessons and had copies and CDs for me so that I could have effective independent study between lessons. They will advertise to form a group if you don't have people but most popular languages are easy to form. Going to learn a new language at Language Loop has been one of the best decisions I've ever made. Not only did i improve my French and Mandarin but I've met some of the best people there. The reception staff is incredibly sweet, helpful, and lovely. The director of the school is the most down to earth person someone can meet. The prices are a good deal! If I could give this 0 stars I would. These guys basically stole $700 from me. I was keen to start lessons in Japanese here as there are few places in Chicago that offer it. I called them on the phone and they were so lovely and friendly I decided to go straight in to meet the Japanese tutor that week. When I went in for what was supposed to be a level check and consultation, I got very vague answers about what would be available to me. I had just moved to Chicago and wanted to double it up as a chance to meet others so I asked if I would be able to join a group class. The tutor told me that he knew of a couple of students in similar level that may be interested and so we left it at that and I said I'd think about it and call them back. I had expressed some concern about not being able to afford the class to the tutor and he was trying to encourage me to join. They emailed me back asking me if I wanted to do a group or a private lesson and I said I would like to go group of possible. They said that would be fine and that I needed to call and make the full payment for $700 before classes started. At no point did they give me any other information about the class, like books, set up etc. They asked me if i had any questions but it didn't occur to me to ask as it felt like they just wanted to rush through and get to the payment part. I went to my first lesson and sat down greeted by the tutor, everyone was very friendly. I waited a bit expecting other students to come but it became apparent that I was the only student in the class- it was a one-to-one lesson. Not only that but the teacher was completely unprepared. He had a laptop opened, where he kept playing videos and seeing if they were the right level for me, and in the end he told me I should go to the library in the Japanese embassy and get my own material for next lesson. I do not expect to pay $700 to prepare my own lesson!I not only that but the lesson was still the ful two hours of "group lesson" which as a language teacher myself, I would never go over an 80 minute private- it's much too intense and a waste of time at that point. I was confused but felt awkward to went home without saying anything and sent them an email expressing my confusion at my group lesson being a one-to-one, especially because I wanted to meet people. They said there were no students at my level and that if I wanted to wait for students to sign up I could. I said I would wait. months later and I heard nothing from them, I emailed them asking for at least a partial refund. I told them I felt I had been rushed into paying without being given any information, and that I had been misled into thinking I would be taking a group lesson. They maintained that my lesson WAS a group lesson despite it being just me and that they don't cancel lessons just because noone signed up. I reminded them that the Japanese tutor had told me that he knew of students who might join and that I just assumed that they had agreed when they said they could offer me group lessons. They made no remedies to my complaints about the running of the lesson itself and lack of preparation on the teacher's side. It has been 9 months, I have heard nothing of students joining. They told me I have one year to "use my hours" if I decide to go back as a private lesson. I had to move back home due to the pandemic so can no longer use these hours. I hold no hope of getting any money back from these people when I need it now more than ever. IF YOU GO TO THIS SCHOOL MAKE SURE YOU GET A FREE TRIAL LESSON before you sign up for a bulk and have to pay for a crappy teacher. read more

I took introductory Spanish at Language Loop a few years ago and loved it. The instructor made it more about how to learn and use the language for real life situations instead of just going through a text book. For example, he would have us converse about everyday topics with skills learned from the textbook. The people are great, a real community. This place is a gem in the West Loop and Chicago is lucky to have a small business like it. I highly recommend it if you are considering learning a language. It's the perfect balance of fun and functionality. The owner Johanna loves what she does and brings together so many diverse people. Her Christmas party is a real hoot! While the laid back atmosphere, the staff, and decorations are nice, I feel like it is an over priced service for something so unstructured. They basically want $600 up front for a once a week class for 2 months. This includes no college accreditation and the education is more like a hangout. This can be useful for people just learning to speak another language, but I don't recommend it for people who are trying to become advance learners. Also they're not really into letting you making up classes if you miss, so you pay for those 8 classes most definitely (whether you're there or not). read more

And on August 26th I took two hours make up class, and I was supposed to start next day at 2 pm to start the class , But I don't feel I can catch up i'm already missing two weeks, I don't feel I can catch up with them I was hoping that I can register when the next beginners course start. So on the make up class stay on August 26 I paid $300 already in cash and today Saturday August 27 I called asking if I can get the money ,the lady there simply said we cannot refund the money back to you so basically I didn't even signed any contract yet ., they are keeping the $300 without doing any effort or without any work, what a inconvenient policy they have , don't give their students any space or time so they can decide as soon as you pay the money it's gone be careful. very harsh costumer service , bad management they want you to enroll in a class even though you are late 2 weeks just so they can add you as a number they don't treat you as human . hungry money people read more

Picky as I am, I'm absolutely and completely thrilled with my experience--all around--at Language Loop. I took Spanish classes, three to four times per week, for three hours each class. First, Language Loop is flexible. When I first called to inquire, I explained what I needed (intensive lessons in Spanish) and why I needed them (so that I could become conversational as an attorney with clients and as regular speaker at all other times). Even though there were no other students asking for intensive lessons, Language Loop made a class just for me. I did not have to wait around until other people wanted to take as many lessons as me. After three weeks, I decided quite suddenly that I wanted a fourth week. Language Loop readily arranged for me to continue without any red tape. Language Loop worked around *my* schedule. Second, the instruction at Language Loop is fabulous and effective. My instructor was enthusiastic, energetic, knowledgeable, and prepared. Importantly, she was *very* responsive to the areas of the language that I asked her to teach me. For example, I wanted to learn several tenses and certain parts of speech (e.g., indirect object pronouns). She not only fulfilled my requests, but she did so without deviating too radically from the natural trajectory of the course.Thus, I got what I asked for from the lessons (plus a lot more), without becoming confused or misdirected. Consequently, I got exactly what I needed and asked for from the course s whole: a stable base of vocabulary, grammatical skills, and confidence to speak conversationally with other Spanish speakers. What I learned has enabled me to keep practicing and keep getting better, even after my lessons ended. I highly recommend this school. read more

Language Loop is a language school primarily for adults (although I believe they have classes for teenagers as well) located in a gorgeous loft space. They offer lots of languages, including Russian and Chinese and of course Spanish and French. Classes can be taken privately or in small groups. They have some social events where students of different languages can meet each other, which is fun. Pros would be that they are very flexible and worked well with me to provide documentation for my office's tuition reimbursement program and that they have some great instructors. They also emailed me later after my class had finished to tell me there was another student at my level and did I want a group class (which would be cheaper). Cons would be that I had several subs for the teacher during one 10-week session, who were of varying quality in teaching. However, when the original teacher was in class, it was top-notch. The classes are somewhat pricy, but comparable to Berlitz. When you call, you can either arrange to come in and take a placement exam, or you can do a verbal assessment over the phone. I do wish they would put more information about what group classes they are currently offering on their website, though. read more

I was so excited to find out about a language school nearby so I tried to sign up for a class. I looked through their webpage of group classes that were starting the following week and found a course listed as a beginner course. They don't have a registration form, instead you fill out a contact form on their site. I filled out the contact form but didn't hear back. I called their office day before the class in order to find out how to get registered. The person on the phone told me that it wasn't a beginner class. She claimed it must be a typo that it says it is a beginner class on the website. Then she said she'd talk to the instructor about trying to set up a beginner class for the following week IF the instructor was willing and IF they could get other students interested and that she would call me back later if they could arrange it. Oddly, she never actually asked for my phone number so I don't know how she planned to contact me since she said they didn't receive my original contact form. Later that day, I decided to just sign up for a different beginner language class that was listed on their schedule instead. I called them again (and got a different person). I asked if they could confirm that this other class was definitely a beginner class or not. She informed me that they don't have the class that day. I said I was looking at their April schedule and it said they had one. She told me that she could contact the instructor and try to arrange something but they don't have one planned at that time. I just gave up at that point since their website contact doesn't work, and they don't list accurate class information on the website so I don't feel comfortable with their company. read more

I've been learning Arabic here for about a month now and it's fantastic! I found this place on Yelp and I'm so glad I did. My teacher is great and Johanna is super nice. Linda is so nice on the phone too! I've been sick a few times and had to reschedule class and they were very accommodating. It is a lot of outside the classroom work too with your book and DVD, but I'm really learning Arabic and it's so fast, you can't complain. I would really recommend this place to everyone. read more

Language Loop is a very good school. I'm very pleased with the results that I got from the Translation and Interpretation Training I took at Language Loop. The classes were small, with just four people, which made almost a private class. Our teacher was excellent, she knew exactly what she was doing and teaching. The school amenities were also really good, which made easier to focus in our activities. This Training was a really good investment and I recommend it to others who would like to work in these areas. read more
