Laoag is the capital of the province of Ilocos Norte [ILOCOS NORTE Philippines]
The word laoag means "bright" or "light" in the native Ilocano language of Ilocos region, this is why Laoag City is called "The Sunshine City."
We weren't planning on making a trip to the North of Luzon but the family member that we came to visit wasn't in Manila but now resides here in Ilocos Norte. We had to alter our plans a little bit. We scheduled to stay 2 days here but it turned out there were plenty of tourist spots and activities to see and do in Laoag. We wished we had a longer stay here. We tried to do as much as we could in the two days as well as spend some time with our dear Auntie.
We were fortunate to explore the following places in Ilocos Norte:
Paoay Church (San Agustin Church)
Sitio Remedios Heritage Village Resort
Cape Bojeador Lighthouse, Burgos
Kapurpurawan Rock Formation, Burgos
Patapat Viaduct
They told us to visit Laoag during the cooler months: November to February. We went in January and it was hot! Humidity made it worse LoL! I can imagine visiting in the hottest months: March to June. Temps can get as high as 35°C (95°F) + the humidity factor. Don't come during the rainy (and sometimes typhoon) season: July to October LoL!
