It was a frigid night and what better food to eat than hotpot. We went there around 5:45PM on a Saturday and were told there was a 45 minute wait. The place was packed! We stuck it out and got seated in 35 minutes. They provide a bag for you to put your jacket prior to eating so it doesn't get the food smell on it. The price is $35 per person and it is all you can eat, so we got to chomping! We got the typical meats. I will say this is one of the few places that offers interesting variety on the meats. They had angus beef (great for me as I prefer my beef leaner) and spicy beef. The spicy beef was ok, idea sounded better than it tasted but it wasn't too bad. First time here last Sunday and it is a solid hotpot spot. Prices are super reasonable for AYCE and the amount of food you get you won't be disappointed. The menu has plenty to choose from. Broths are flavorful. Service was good. I enjoyed their milk tea as well. The place is clean and everything tastes fresh. The ONLY thing I would suggest is to separate the seafood and vegetables when they bring out the items. Went for the hotpot and there was a good amount of items to choose from. My favorite broth is the herbal one, somehow it makes me feel like I am eating something "healthy". Although some people might think it has a strong smell and taste, it is my preferred one. All the others taste bland to me. Not sure when they started to give free drinks, but I am glad they do now. My go to spot for hot pot with friends! They offer different options for all you can eat depending on your budget and preference. Just keep in mind everyone has to do the same option per table because of the different price point. I've had the premium seafood and the regular option and both were good. The food was good and the seafood was fresh. They have the typical sauce station with lots of choices to mix your own. Came here with a friend who recently moved to nyc and honestly this was the best hotpot place I've been to in a while. We did both skewers and hotpot and both were great quality. Anytime we picked up the menu, a person came over for us to order more with no prompting which definitely makes this a better value than any other place because they usually take a while. My group went here last year and we always saw our table full. The importance of me saying that is because we went back here again just recently after we went to the Laojie in Manhattan. Compared to the Manhattan location, the Brooklyn location is still a thousand times better, ranging from service to the food. Meat was fresh, and at least two waiters came and checked up on us consistently. The basic package includes seafood and it was still as amazing as without the high quality food. Their food was already... high quality. Soda, tea, WLJ is free, and the snacks we had at the end were also free to the point where... we really did eat our worth. One of the first times I can say I ate my fill, and if I wanted to, I could probably even eat more than that. They also give a great amount of crab, which I have never got during hotpot but decided to give it a try, and really, this place is so much better compared to the LJ in manhattan. The service is still okay but I think the better servers went to the other location on bay parkway. Went to Lao Jie around 11:30 and had a great time! The food was amazing. We were just two people and got the hotpot. Soda and hot tea are included in the AYCE (free), but things like smoothies, fruit, or boba aren't. The vibe was really chill and the place looked nice. They played Chinese music, which makes sense since it's a Chinese restaurant, lol. Staff were super nice and kept clearing our empty dishes without us even asking. As for the BBQ skewers -- personally, I wouldn't recommend getting both hotpot and skewers at the same time. The skewers tend to sit out too long while you're eating hotpot, so they get cold and just don't taste as good. They are fairly accommodating of large groups (up to 10 by my estimate) if you call ahead and make a reservation. Larger groups are typically seated in the basement, so be mindful of that if some people in the group are less mobile. Onto the food. There's a WIDE menu that covers so much from meat, veggies, and seafood. My favorites would have to be the pork belly and the fatty beef. Some of the apps that surprised me were the cheese + corn & the garlic enoki mushrooms. Be mindful of how much you order, it can start arriving slow and then come all at once. As there are large orders placed at once, sometimes some items might get delayed, sometimes even lost. Don't hesitate to check in with the staff and ask. It can get cozy when you have a lot of food on the table. When it looks like you're just about done eating, the staff may ask to turn off the induction heating. For $40+ due to adding tip and tax, I even get delicious green tea mango pudding as dessert, hot tea, and also soda or herbal tea in a can. O birthdays, if there are 4 people with a cake, the birthday person gets their hotpot meal free. With 3 or more people, we get a pitcher of fresh squeezed juice of our choosing, depending on seasonal fruit availability. Don't be surprised about the things they have to offer on the menu. I don't think there was a time limit because it doesn't say anything of that on the menus or website (website is in another language so I had to rely on Yelp- thank you reviewers!!) Vegetables came in big quantities so we were able to order just one round which lasted the entire night. My party took the BBQ & Hotpot combo, the drinks & desserts add up to the check so be mindful! The servers speak very little English so please be mindful and be clear and specific when ordering! One of my favorite all you can eat hot pot places. They even do skewers all you can eat. I much prefer the hotpot than the skewer though. Service is usually quick and pretty spacious once inside. For the basic hotpot it's about $32 per person AYCE, and a little more if you want seafood or to combine with AYCE BBQ skewers. Like everyone else has mentioned, the old school China decor is awesome and adds to the overall experience. Our server was ready to take our order as soon as we sat down. The hotpot portion of the meal was very standard / up to par. Made a delicious sauce at the sauce bar and everything tasted so good with it. It was the BBQ skewers that blew me away! Beef, chicken wings, and the pork belly w/ enoki mushroom - all WOW. So good, especially that last one. It's basically bacon wrapped enoki and it's so addicting that we ordered it like 3 times. It was difficult to not stuff myself with the bbq meats alone. Another highlight was the complimentary dessert - milk tea pudding! I'm not a sweets/desserts person, but this was so refreshing after hotpot and the milk tea was just so aromatic.
