No one was present as soon I walked up, but as she came around the corner she acknowledged me right away as she was taking food to a table. She repeated my order to make sure we were on the same page and I noticed if the modification wasn't in the computer, it was written on the ticket. The ambiance - it is located inside Ben Thanh's food court. So it's an open cafeteria like the mall food court. I got my food to-go. I've heard so many good things about this place and wanted to love it so badly, but the food was very mediocre. The papaya salad was lacking so much flavor...it was literally bland. Stopped by Ben Thanh Plaza for a late night bite (around 9 PM) on a Wednesday night after landing in DAL and was so happy to see this place was still open! I got the egg noodle soup with bbq pork (with shrimp & wontons!) that was clearly made fresh and served straight from the pot. It was flavorful with plenty of bok choy and reminded me of a grandma's homemade cooking. The gentleman who took my order casually chatted with me for a bit and was kind enough to bring the food over to the table I was sitting at. This is great! Khun Ae (Mrs. Ae) is the nicest restauranteur ever. She brings the Land of Smiles to Arlington and that brings my family back for more. Everyone in fact was gracious and welcoming. The food is excellent, authentic, and made to order with your own level of heat ( 0-5 ). We ordered: 1. Pad kee mao gai (drunken noodle chicken) 2. Larb bua (sliced beef salad) 3. Khao pad goong (fried rice shrimp) 4. Som tam Laos (Laos style papaya salad) 5. Boat noodles with beef What's also really cool about the drunken noodles and fried rice is that they fry in either lard or rendered bacon fat! It's an amazing addition of complexity to the already plentiful spices. My kids were shoveling it into their faces! The boat noodles were excellent and reminded me of the roadside... actually in-the-road beef noodle cart in Chiang Mai. It was nice to have culinary call-back -- but with a considerably cleaner venue and air conditioning! I even ordered a set to take home. The beef salad ("larb") is thin sliced beef (including some organs) boiled then mixed with various spices -- mint, cilantro, long pepper, culantro. It's an excellent experience to sit with some sticky rice and fix your own lettuce wraps! I didn't touch the papaya salad, but my wife reported it was worth coming back for. No complaints from me about this food. The only drawback is that the chair in the food court doesn't have plastic caps on the metal legs of the chairs -- so there's a fair amount of screeching from the tile floor and feet of the chairs. read more

Delicious food at a very reasonable price! Located inside the food court of Ben Thanh plaza, probably the main reason why it took me forever to finally give them a try. We came about 45mins before they close, but good things there were still a whole bunch of people eating and drinking in the general seating area. The staff/owner was happy to take our order instead of the usual inconvenient/annoyed reaction we would get coming to an Asian restaurant 30-45mins before they close. I was craving papaya salad, so was excited to try it. Can't remember if they have both Laos and Thai versions, but we definitely had the Laos papaya salad with the raw crab. The flavor was good, but I would like it much more if it was more sour and less sweet. Gonna give them benefits of the doubt and definitely have to order it again. All the dishes we ordered were pretty good size. They also have fresh sugar cane juice. For a 32oz (or roughly, for sure larger than 24oz lol), it's only $5, which is pretty darn cheap compares to other places. Our usual go to place is Nalinh all the way in Irving. My friends and I were bored one night, and decided to travel down to one of Arlington's Asian malls. We were pretty hungry and decided to try some food here. Having heard good things about Thai coffee, I tried this place called Laos Thai Foods. The atmosphere was amazing, seemed fun with a ton of things to do. The staff was beyond friendly. Very welcoming. The first thing I got was the Thai Iced Coffee. It was amazing watching sugar cane being prepared and juiced right in front of us, then subsequently used in the things we've purchased. The Thai Iced Coffee was amazing, much more preferable to Boba in my opinion. I was also feeling a little hungry so I ordered the Beef skewers. I can't say these were super extraordinary or anything, but they were definitely good. It was marinated well in a sweet sauce and portioned off with each piece on the skewer instead of making it one continuous piece that would be annoying to eat. So it was easy to eat and tasted great. The only problem I had with it was how some of the cartilage was too hard to chew. Other than that though, everything was great. The Thai Iced Tea was definitely the star, though. read more

My dad also had Thai boat noodles and ordered the larb pa ( koy pa) to go, sis in law for the red curry, and said it tasted very good and authentic compared to most places. Can't believe it's taken me so long to try this place out. I love in North Arlington, so it's a great way for me to get my hands on authentic Lao food when I don't feel like cooking. Location: This is located within the food court at the Ben Thanh Plaza. Very easy to find because we were already familiar with the food court. Walk towards the back of the food court and it has brought yells and red signage that you just can't miss. If entering from the store, walk left to the food court first. Atmosphere/Seating: Normal food court seating. We did notice some of the tables in front of this restaurant had Asian condiments on top. We decided to sit at one of those tables. They also have high chairs that line the back wall for those of you who little ones!! Price: We spent about $60 total for 2 people that had a FEAST and took half home for leftovers! Food Quality: Fresh coconut tasted super sweet and cold. Super refreshing. The Thai coffee is pretty strong but good. The Nam Khao was perfect! It came out with a generous portion of fresh green veggies to wrap and eat with it! The Thum Mak Hoong (papaya salad) was a little bit on the sweet side for me. I did ask for the Lao style, and a level 5 spice but was a little disappointed in the lack of spiciness (they gave us a spicy option of level 1-5). The Beef Larb was the perfect combo of bitter, sour, and savory. Definitely our favorite dish we ordered. The Pad Thai was good, but also a bit too sweet for us. We liked that it came with bean sprouts and peanuts on top so we could mix them in when we wanted and not compromise on their crunchy textures. Service: The nice older lady who ran the register spoke Lao with me. She was so kind. She writes down your order so she can repeat it to you and makes sure she gets it right. Then she plugs the total into the register. She is efficient and accurate. We waited a little bit for all our food to come out, but we expected it since we ordered so much. Overall, a great experience and we WILL be back! They stayed busy while we were there and I hope our community continues to support them so they can be around well after the pandemic! read more

The hours for this restaurant in the food court say they open at 11, but my friend and I arrived at 11:15 and it was empty. We went to the store and shopped for half an hour and decided to eat elsewhere but luckily passed by again and saw the stand was open! The woman who runs the stand said they open anytime between 10:30-11:30am so maybe plan for a later lunch time if you come during the day. Their menu and prices are not updated so you'll need to ask for specific dishes and prices. I ordered the drunken noodles with fried tofu and a side of the Lao sausage and my friend ordered the pad see ew with chicken. We both loved our dishes! Very fresh and clearly made right then. The Lao sausage came out a bit later but was perfect, laced with lemongrass and crispy along the edges. The only thing I disliked was that my pad kee mao had no spice to it so I ended up needing to add a bunch of chili, but luckily the stand owner brought us a spice stand with chili oil, sambal, and fish sauce. I would 100% come here again and plan on doing so! I heard the owner taking orders over the phone for to-go, so that may be something to try. read more

I have now been in the DFW area for a while and have tried quite a bit of asian cuisine. This really hit the spot because I'm Hmong. Hmong, Lao, and Thai foods are very similar, but have their own little takes on dishes. The owners were so nice, warm, welcoming, and didn't mind making my food extra spicy (which I always enjoy). The sticky rice was good. Not much to say, it's sticky rice. For those of you who don't know what it is or haven't had it, come on. Get out of your shell and try it. It's like white rice 2.0. The Lao Sausage was good also. Again for those of you who haven't had Lao or Hmong Sausage, its a really good change to the conventional sausage. It not only has the pork, but inside the casing is also finely minced shallots, lemongrass, pork belly, and more. The Lao sausage here was cooked to a nice browning, not overly sour, and had a decent range of flavor profile. The Papaya Salad was so good it had me sweating. The fishy smell can be a turn off for many, but if you can get past that and try it, it's good. I asked for them to make it very spicy and they delivered. The strands of papaya weren't hard and the tomatoes were surprisingly juicy. The Fresh Squeezed Sugar Cane Juice is so good! If you order it, they grab some sugar cane and put it through the machine right in front of you. I've seen many people just order that alone and leave. Like I said I haven't had better Lao or Thai food in all of DFW than this little food place at Ben Thanh Plaza. I've been there a couple times and ordered from different people and they were all nice. The sticky rice is a must when getting the sausage and you know the papaya salad is good if you're sweating. But a bonus, you don't have to wait till the once a year event to get your festival food fix, you can come here any time of the year. Another bonus, you get to get to eat inside on a comfy chair and don't have to chase away the flies. They display different types of meat on a skewer, such as Lao sausage, chicken wings, marinated beef and pork and fish patties. We tried all of them and they were all nicely marinated. It also compliments well with their delicious papaya salad. I would come back for the papaya salad alone. It has the right amount of saltiness, sweetness and citrus from the fresh lime. We also tried their Lao chicken noodle soup. The broth was good but the noodles seemed like they were pre-boiled. I am sure it would taste good if it was freshly boiled. Sugar cane drink: It failed to bring back the nostalgic taste both my DH and I were expecting from it. There must be different sugar canes from VN versus Laos/Thai, but it was still ok and refreshing. Chicken Pineapple Fried Rice: By far the best thing we ate from here. But it was such a small portion for the price ~$10. Tom Yum Soup: Big bowl of thin liquid with few solids and little density. Papaya Salad: Uses "mam nem" (shrimp paste mix) instead of "nuoc mam" (fish sauce) so it was saltier and more "seafoody" than we expected, which did not necessarily make it bad. If we're in the area, we might come back and try something else, but it doesn't quite warrant a special visit. read more

I really liked their beef lab and their papaya salad was good as well, nice and stinky but not too fishy (Lao style) Their sausage I felt was a little bland but I'm used to buying the spicy Laos sausage which would have been nice if they offered those too. They also have sticky rice but wished they had the brown rice because the blue purple sticky rice just looks cool.
