The movie starts at 6:30 and they are letting people on at 6:15? It is 6:00 and they have nowhere to sit outside and no bathroom.

The Lark Theater has engaged in censorship. After an article written about film maker Cassie Jaye was published in the local newspaper, the theater asked Cassie to screen her award winning documentary "Daddy I Do". Days later, members of the theater's board who objected to certain content in the film decided to rescind their offer and cancelled the screening. This is censorship plain and simple. A theater that claims to be independent should support quality independent films and film makers, especially local ones. Shame on the Lark Theater. read more

The concession stand cashiers were very rude and disrespectful. The movie was way to loud and they had the audacity to postpone the movie just to self promote and show advertisement about the lark theatre. The popcorn was stale, the slushees were all ice and no flavor, and they don't fill up your soda all the way. The customers were also rude and slightly racist. Lastly the screens was too small and the seats were uncomfortable. read more

Are you freaking kidding me?!? Where the hell has this place been all my life? Delicious organic popcorn, beer and wine, all reasonably priced with awesome people running the show. If you're looking for a ticket seller at a movie theater who does anything but take your money, this isn't the place for you. The guy who tended the ticket booth yesterday afternoon (January 9) was barely willing to accept our payment for the tickets, let alone speak or even look at us during the process. Cute place. Worked there when it reopened in 2004. Started off nicely with interesting docs and independent films and film festivals. They even showed the 2004 presidential debates. But because they needed to make money, they started playing the same crap the big theaters play. Sad story. They sold alcohol the last time I was there and the popcorn is organic and delicious. read more

Theater has a great selection of Indie films. Prices are great. The secret is to get on the email list. Too often, people don't have time for movies but when you see the limited run offerings, it's easier to make time. The concessions are the best in the county with all sorts of gourmet food and beverages imaginable. The only snag is parking. Always arrive early. It can be a nightmare. The intro film about donating to the Lark Theater (to preserve a wonderful historical theater) is too long. And if you go often, tiresome. read more

The best fidelity sound system for classical music and opera I've ever heard. This is the place for serious music if you can't hear it live.

Came here for the first time and really enjoyed it.This theater only has one screen but has been lovingly restored to a more glamorous era. (The theater floor could use another coat of black paint though ) This theater reminds me of the old LaMert theater in Los Angels but on a way smaller scale. I would suggest checking out there website for the current movie they are showing and box office times. Staff is friendly and quick to clean up when movie ends.Support your local small theater! read more

The Lark Theater is a gem. It is a part of Larkspur's history it would have been a crime to lose.

This theatre is a local treasure. They have stayed open because of the support of the community. It's the real deal - an old fashioned theatre. They even have a wine bar. They play the Metropolitan Opera live on Saturday nights (check the schedule). They also show documentaries that you cannot see anywhere else - now showing: Man on Wire, Academy Award Nominee Best Documentary. They have a big party on Oscar night. I'm pretty discerning when it comes to movie theaters (are the seats comfortable, do they recline? how is the screen positioned? is the sound quality excellent? - just a few of the important questions that must have the right answers for me to see a flick there); there are only a handful I'll attend in Marin County. Admittedly, the Lark was not on that list until recently when I had the pleasure of viewing "Jeremiah Tower: The Last Magnificent" there. Full disclosure, the last movie I saw at the Lark was the Disney animated Beauty and the Beast, which scared my bother half to death and, well, I never went back. As I got older and started going to movies without my parents, I, for reasons unknown, placed the Lark squarely in the "old and run down" category and never thought of it again. I could not have been more wrong!! First, this theater is independent, which is a reason to support it in it of itself, but what makes this place a true gem is both the staff and the experience they create. Every employee I met was both accommodating and provided service with a genuine smile. The Lark has also solved one of my main gripes about all movie theaters: crappy snacks. Why it is that our county is so health conscious and yet our movie theaters remain packed with junk, I cannot understand. I have therefore become accustomed to smuggling in home made popped corn and blueberries whenever I go to the movies but at the Lark that won't be necessary. The Lark pops its pop corn with coconut oil, nothing else and you can add REAL butter and/or, say (my absolute favorite), nutritional yeast! There are also some nice wine, beer, and cider offerings and other, more health conscious and organic treats if you should so desire. The other fantastic bonus is the Lark's screen positioning. Because of the way the screen is set back from the first row of seats, you can actually sit in the front row to enjoy the movie - unlike many multi-plexes that cram so many seats in the theater that sitting in the front row equates to sitting practically on the screen and is certain to give one headache or at least a neck cramp by the end of the flick. Add to these lovely features comfortable seats and a charming location from which to enjoy some post (or pre!)-movie dinner or cocktails and you've got yourself a stellar afternoon or evening. The Lark Theater is a special and unique place to see movies or attend events. We are local Larkspur residents and are always interested to check the marquee and see what's on at the Lark. They offer an interesting variety of films - family-oriented stuff but also foreign and independent films; and often they will invite interesting speakers (for example we saw the director's cut of Blade Runner and afterward there was a Q&A with the screenwriter that gave us great insight into the film). Also the Lark is one of the most beautiful and comfortable movie houses I know. The seats are red velvet with cushy cushions, nice bounce and lots of legroom, and the deco decor makes the film-going experience special. Last but not least, the Lark is non-profit and independent. With all the chains dominating the movie landscape these days, it feels good to support our local theater! read more

The Lark feels like one of the few "real" theaters left in Marin. It has all the features of a theater from the past (old marquee, box office, deep burgundy velvet seats) but it's also very clean and roomie and has lots of air keeping it from getting stuffy even in a full theater. They've obviously redone everything, but staying true to what it once was. Their concession stand has real treats, from baked goods and cafe offerings to coffe, latte etc. The popcorn is the best I've ever had. They use coconut oil to pop it in and it's amazing what a difference it makes-who knew! I love to come here for a real theater experience that hardens me back to the "good ole days". read more

Local, one screen theater - total neighborhood place. I go here over the big movie-plexes whenever I can. Food is good, love that you can get a glass of wine and on weekends they also do more 'artsy' stuff with the Metropolitan Opera and various theater productions. It's a great place to go. read more

The lark theatre is very small, it only has has one movie room. it doesn't have that many kids movies.

The Lark has all the potential to be a wonderful community asset, old style renovated theater, good food, roomy seats. I look to go there first when I am in the mood for the theater, but their movie selections haven't been the best--hard to get first runs in a small theater and with only one screen they are limited in showing indie films. They have done well in bringing in live music and it's a great size for that type of event; I hope this is the direction they take. read more
