I moved to Healdsburg and there's only 1 barber in town unless you want to count Great Cuts. I wanted a haircut before Sonoma County may shut down again due to Covid-19 concerns and rising ICU patients. So I returned to Salim at Larkfield in a small strip shopping center. It's located to the left of Mulberry's Market. There is seating outside while you wait. Salim is a nice guy and asked me what I wanted in a haircut. #4 on the sides, tapered in the back. He did a perfect haircut as usual. He sanitizes the chair between customers and of course wears a mask. As many Barbers are struggling through closures due to the pandemic, he's reopened but who knows before the next shutdown. I gave him an extra large tip because small businesses subject to closure need the income. I went here to get my hair fixed after a guy that I was going to for awhile messed up my hair so bad and I was so upset when he said he couldn't fix it. I asked for a simple fade on the sides and back and showed up reference pictures. I came here to get it fixed and showed one picture and showed him the awful cut I as given and he said "not a problem." He fixed it up very well and did the absolute best he could and it looks great and I'm surprised it looks this good with how bad it was before. The man is very friendly and it is very obvious that he knows how to cut hair. I would recommend him if you're looking for an affordable ($22) good looking cut. He even offered to fix it up without charging me since I already paid $30 for a messed up cut from somewhere else. I insisted on paying but he still didn't want to charge me full price. But I insisted on paying and giving a tip as well because I was so pleased with how it turned out because I know it wasn't easy. I have frequented the Larkfield Barber Shop for years. The proprietor, Salhim is without question one of the most humble person I have ever met. And I have the travel credentials to back that statement. Salhim is a humble, gracious man. He is the only barber in his shop, and keeps quite a cadre of loyal customers. He is a skilled barber, and an excellent conversationalist. He has never met a stranger. All who enter Salhim's shop are welcomed. Don't have the money to pay, no worry, catch him next time. Who does this. This is a man who is the sole provider for his family, and yet he will trust someone to come back and pay later. I have seen him give a homeless man a haircut without charge. Again, an incredibly humble man. COVID has hit Salhim hard. He as had to close his shop twice due to local health restrictions. I dropped by the other day for a haircut, but the shop was locked up. San Francisco two months ago I paid about $125 including tip this was equally as good for only $17 Bucks "Amazing" I grew up with a family of High end European stylist, I was the kid sweeping up the hair and I learned a few things the difference between a buzz cut and the art of true scissor cut. Scissors are way more work and the results blow away electric shavers. Stylist Vs Barber Woman, longer hair generally its often-layered etc. Men have closer cuts and detailed edging closer to the skin that is not covered up by a longer hairline. If you're a man go to a Barber and see the difference, you will be surprised! I hadn't heard in three decades if I wanted tapering, edging preference etc. I thought what the hell? no one does Old world European style any more it's a lost art? I am blown away and greatly satisfied and a bit in awe of my discovery. Salvador Dali, Is alive and well in Santa Rosa, Ca aka BAD ASS! First off its $17 to get a haircut. Salim is a pretty cool guy, he's got stories to tell and he's really laid back. You can tell he has ALOT of experience. I forgot exactly how long he said he's been cutting hair but it's been well over 20 years. If you see something you don't like in your cut, he will try his best to correct it. I was very satisfied with y haircut, idk what he did but it just looked and fell into place very nicely. Lastly, I do have to say I asked for a taper, maybe I wasn't too specific on how short to taper it down or maybe he is not as conscious about modern fade/tapered cuts so it wasn't as tapered down as I would like. My only advice would be just to make sure he understands you and don't be scared to tell him you want it shorter. read more

Salim is a cheerful man & knows how to cut men's hair. No one had informed my hubby about his cowlick, the grow pattern of his hair & how to comb it so it wouldn't stick out. Hello!! I hate to rain on the 5 Star parade, but ya gotta tell it like it is. First off, the owner Salim, appears to be a hell of a nice guy. But..... So, I am looking for a local place to cut my hair. I moved from Oakland 2.5 years ago, tried all the local places in my current town, no luck. All seem to have trouble cutting hair straight. Went back to my Oakland place for the past 6 months, but realized the trek is just too far, need to find someone in the 707. So, he asks me how I want my hair, I show him a photo on my phone. I tell him, I would like to keep the top longer, so just clean it up, and just fade down the sides of my hair. I just looked in the mirror and the photo and for the life of me, see no resemblance, not even close, not even a trace. he basically gave me a short buzz cut, ala, US Army/Marines. ---Newsflash, nothing against the military, but I have a huge head and a short buzz cut is the absolute worst style for me. It makes my head look even bigger. I am still trying to piece together how this all happened today. All in all, its been a crappy day, and this haircut put the icing on it. Maybe less talk and more listen? Less talk, more focus on the photo which is flashed before your eyes??? Basically, I will go baseball cap for 2-3 weeks and wait out 5 weeks till it grows out, so this mis-hap, fortunately is temporary . read more

The haircut was good but the mustache trim was only ok but I should have checked it more thoroughly before I got out of the chair - I am really picky. I enjoyed the Old School vibe at the shop. As classic a barbershop as it gets. You walk in and take a seat, grab a magazine, then sit up in the chair when it's your turn. Definitely a guy's kind of place. The owner charges $17 for a haircut, he's quick, polite, and keeps things running smooth. I've never been here and had to wait more than twenty minutes. I used to frequent several of those beauty parlors that 'also' cut men's hair and had extremes of experiences - depending on the luck of the draw when your turn inline came up. Salim is a great person that just happens to give great haircuts. Once you have a Salim haircut your search for a barber will have ended and you will join his growing return customer base. Yes this is an old school barber shop with almost exclusively a male clientele - although I once saw a lady get her hair cut and Salim says he get a few lady customers. Only one complaint about Salim, he still charges on $17 for a haircut. Most people give him $20 - which is still a bargain. If you visit, encourage him to raise his price to $20 - yes he is that good. read more

I have always been a barber shop guy and love the environment; including that its a drop-in place. The wait is seldom long and the conversation with customers and Salim is always lively and interesting. When it comes to cutting your hair, he listens and does his very best to cut your hair the way you want it done. He cares deeply about the happiness of his customers and would never take offense to working over any part of the cut... he just wants you to be happy when you walk out. I walked in and there were two gentlemen waiting in chairs and one guy was getting his hair cut. I asked what appeared to be the owner who was cutting hair if he had time to give my son a haircut? Although I have never gone to a barber, my dad has gone here for years! I love Salim. He always has a smile on his face, and waves every time I walk by. Sometimes I run into him at stores around town, and he recognizes me and says hi. I've never even stepped into his shop, but it shows you how well he gets to know his customers. My dad was being a cheap-o, and wasn't getting his hair cut, so I offered to give him one. His mistake for letting me, since I have absolutely NO idea what I'm doing, but that's fine.
