I placed a to-go order and did have to wait about an hour, but honestly, it was worth it. I ordered the breakfast combination, which came with a corn tamal, pupusa, plantains, beans, and sour cream, along with two queso con loroco pupusas and the yuca/chicharrón plate. Everything was delicious! The pupusas were so good, and the yuca and chicharrón were perfectly seasoned and fried to crispy goodness. My only complaint is that the beans were way too watery. I think they'd be much better with a little more thickness. Parking is available in the back, with access from the alley. The restaurant itself appears very clean, and there's even a DJ booth. We walked in and there was a group of guys drinking at the bar and the music was loud like a nightclub. When they noticed us walk in they turned the music off completely. The bar lady took our order and it took a while to come out and it was packaged to go but we wanted to eat there so we sat down and opened the bag to eat and then the music started again. I couldn't talk to my boyfriend over the loud music which was annoying but the men at the bar seemed to be enjoying themselves. Really disappointed. Ordered takeout through Yelp/Grubhub since this is one of the few Salvadoran spots open late. The food tasted great--until I bit into a pupusa and found a piece of green glass. That completely killed the experience. I picked through the pan con pollo, which was okay, but the glass was a total dealbreaker. Grubhub refunded us for three pupusas, but still--super disappointing. The flavors were solid, but foreign objects in your food should never be an issue. read more

Awesome Pupusa! I'm new to this dish but I yelped it in the area and I found my way to this hole in the wall. I got 1 shrimp and cheese and 1 bean and cheese. Both were fantastic but what put them onto the next level was the cabbage and tomato sauce they served them with. Omg! I'm polish and the mixed-vinegar-cabbage was almost as good as my families. Slightly hot, but with sweet and savory undertones. I used the whole bowl they gave me. I would go in just for that. The cheese they use is real as well, which is often skipped on these days. You get chips and salsa before which are on point. The price is a quite high for Pupusa as my above mentioned order plus a Diet Coke was $8.75. In the grand scheme of food that's cheap - but in the Pupusa world, that's expensive lol The only odd thing about this place was the attitude of my server. She was kind of playing it "too cool for school," and when I asked her what she recommended, she didn't really care and just picked one at random. It's whatever, I'm sure she had a long day and it was rainy. Also may have been a language barrier because this place is in a VERY Latin neighborhood (like most of Van Nuys) and you will probably be the only white person in there at lunch time. My family and I tried this new place because I wanted pupusas but once we saw the menu we ended up ordering all kids of goodies. The breakfast with eggs any style, puréed beans, cheese, crema and fried plantains reminded me of my moms cooking. That's not a common thing to happen. Authentic for sure. Their Yucca con chicharrón was great. Their chicken pastelitos were great as well. My husband loved the carne encebollada plate and the kids loved the asada fries. We definitely bookmarked this place to order again. Their menu narrative was the only thing that was a little strange. Alright I would give it a 3.5 stars but I can't so I'll round up because the lady that assisted us was very kind. The food was okay but it's not bad if you're looking for some Mexican food. It was my first time trying Pupusas so maybe I need to go to more places before I decide on how I feel about them. The taco I had was just a little dry. I liked the cabbage that came with the Pupusas yet again I love pickled things. I do wish the jukebox had an option to lower the volume (or maybe there was but I couldn't find it) It was so loud that I had to scream at my coworker for them to hear what I was saying. I have never seen this place and it's right across the t mobile i go to pay my bills, so it's kind of tricky to find if you were to drive by because next to it is a bike shop I believe, but nonetheless this restaurant didn't disappoint I'm a huge fan of revueltas and omg they filled me up to the max!
