I order a large chicken soup with a side of white rice to go, and it's one of those perfect meals for a rainy day or when you're feeling a little under the weather. I order it at least a couple of times a month. I'm a total soup person and could honestly eat soup every single day. This one is a classic chicken noodle with carrots and potatoes, and the rice is some of the best I've had. The portion is huge and usually ends up being two meals. Today, only one other customer in the walk up window line which gave me time to peek into the restaurant that displayed casual decor. The barista was friendly and served me up a hot Cuban espresso with just a hint of sugar, which smelled spectacular and went down the hatch with a few aggressive sips. Looks might deceive you but this is a great Cuban place considering the price to value ratio. It is a very humble establishment. Nothing fancy but it gets the job done at pretty inexpensive prices. The menu is pretty large but not all items are available so make sure to check with your waiter or call in advance if you are looking for a specific dish. Also, their daily specials run out fast so if you are going for dinner, it might not be available. Despite these short comings, all the items I tried were pretty good. Well, outside of the food, the service was ok but they have like 6 waitresses while the place is empty in the back talking and yet somehow it still takes them a minute to get to you. The food does come out fast. Make sure you sit yourself cuz they won't do it for you. The check, the prices are reasonable but they include the tip on the check which is crap, cuz if you get poor service you still get tacked on a 20% tip regardless. This was more like a 10% tip. Prices reasonable on the food but a Morir Soñando drink was $7. Damn, I might as well go squeeze the oranges and milk the cow myself. Great Cuban food but don't get it twisted getting a Dominican dish here. It's like getting sushi at Longhorn Steakhouse, it ain't happening. So 3 stars is not bad if you're craving some home cooked food in the area. Oh and tostones, they are refried, not fresh, skip those. The food portions are hefty. One dish can feed two people easy. Lots od pork and ham, Swiss cheese, pickles on fresh Cuban bread then... the magic happens. They press cook it until the bread gets a nice crunch and the meat is hot and cheese melted!!! I added 3 croquetas jamon ans they made them fresh for me!!! Service is good, the ladies all work together the menu is extensive with daily specials (oxtail soup today). I stopped by there tonight for my favorite, the Media Noche, like a Cuban sandwich but on egg bread instead of Cuban bread. It was delicious. What bothers me is that the menu said it was $8.99 but the check came back at $9.99. Something about menus not updated. Once before I went and was charged more because he rang up the wrong item but said it was the same price but it was also $1 more. There is some notice on the door in Spanish but I don't speak or read Spanish very well. The menus were paper and look newly printed to me. I think this is a bit of false advertising or laziness. Ordered Italian Liver and it was terrible. Super Hard meet, burned to the point it was black. Very thin cuts and hard to cut. Green peppers and onions were not fresh either. "Moros" rice had a good taste but seemed it was cooked early that day or the day before. I asked for fried green plantains and I received two pieces and these were reheated in the microwave and not fresh at all, full of oil and hard. Morros rice was delicious actually better than most places Milanesa de pollo wow dont even know where to begin was awful. Falling apart, soggy weird unpleasant cheese normally swiss is used. Very sweet canned tomato sauce No flavor or salt at all just a sloppy tasteless mess. Vaca frita was tasteless aswell. Normally the outside is crispy after being pan fried it was all soggy and dry somehow. Mofongo was $6 portion is huge and had the potential to be good but unfortunately had a very unpleasant charred/burned flavor in every bite and was not edible. Total for 2 plates and mofongo was $32 and we threw out about 80% of the food. This place just isnt good but I'd definitely stop here to get some morros rice that I definition reccomend :) read more
