If you like crowds, pickpocket anxiety, overpriced trinkets, and accidentally joining six bachelor parties at once, boy, do I have a street for you. La Rambla is Barcelona's most famous boulevard and basically the Times Square of Catalonia. You'll find all the tourist traps, souvenir stands selling shirts with bulls on them (even though that's more Madrid's vibe), and, inexplicably, a guy dressed as a tree. It eventually spills into the Boqueria Market, which is the reward at the end of the human river. Gotta see it! Check!

Picturesque tree-lined, cobblestone walkways, located in a central area around quite a handful of city architectural and cultural highlights (ie. tourist destinations). That being said, while this is the center of much tourist activity in the city it's much less the center of Barcelona's domestic heart compared to 15 or 20 years ago. Like others have mentioned to think otherwise would be akin to going to Times Square in NYC and thinking you experienced an authentic taste of NYC culture, when in reality you were just swimming in a pool of tourists visiting from abroad. Will add rightly or wrongly, I've never felt unsafe here even as a female solo traveler at night. If you have your wits about you, stay wary of anyone walking too close, don't wear flashy expensive clothing and accessories, or talk loudly like an oblivious tourist then you'll be less of a target for pickpockets no matter where you are.

A hip and trendy area to walk and be seen. It was quite crowded on the temperate day. All types of shopping, museums, restaurants, churches and small parks. For us the sights were more interesting on the side streets where there was less traffic. Small boutiques and cafes flavored the area. Definitely a must do and see area.

Aaaah, the infamous Las Ramblas! I only say "infamous" because I was told by several people that this street was super dangerous. And while I won't disagree wholeheartedly with that statement, I will say that I felt pretty safe here during the day and night. It's all about being aware of your surroundings. I can see how people can be careless and not really pay attention to what's going on while they're roaming the street. As long as you're paying attention to what's happening around you, a stroll down Las Ramblas can be pretty fun. Las Ramblas is the heart of the Barcelona hustle and bustle! It's always crowded with people and there are often street performers and local vendors selling all kinds of things. The street is surrounded by several shops and restaurants. Pickpocketing is a real thing here, so make sure that your valuables are hidden and not within easy access for someone to take. You've also got the gypsies out in full swing. Aside from all of that, this is a fun street to walk down to really get a true feel of the city. Many of Barcelona's iconic landmarks are located near or within a close proximity of Las Ramblas, so you're bound to walk through at some point while you're exploring. Because this is a busy area, most shops and restaurants tend to inflate their prices. Do some window shopping here and save your money for the places that are outside of Las Ramblas. You'll get much better deals this way. When in Barcelona, Las Ramblas is a place that you must check out.

I don't like to do this, but Time Out Barcelona pointed out all of the sights as we wandered down the most famous 1.2 km boulevard in Barcelona. It starts at Plaça de Catalunya fountain and ends at the statue of Christopher Columbus down by the port. Different sections were named after saints referring to the 16th and 18th centuries when the street were lined with churches & convents. Best things to do on La Rambla in Barcelona: 1. La Boqueria food market 2. La Rambla dels Flors 3. Liceu opera house 4. Columbus Statue at the Waterfront. 5. Cafè de l'Òpera 6. Canaletes fountain 7. Miró mosaic 8. 2017 terrorist attack memorial 9. This pedestrian street in the heart of Barcelona is actually the city's most famous street. On this street, you will find kiosks selling flowers and newspapers, cafes and restaurants with outdoor seating, and lots of street performers (such as the statue people). Personally, I passed on eating at any of the places on the street itself, as it was too crowded for a relaxing meal. I recommend instead to go to a restaurant that is on either side of Las Ramblas, away from the crowds walking by. Walking down this street is just one of those things every tourist should do at least once to get a feel of the city. However, expect large and annoying crowds at all times of the day.

If you are going to come to Barcelona, chances are you will walk/eat at Las Ramblas as it is pretty massive. I did read that you need to watch out for pick-pocketers and gypsies, and be safe at night. It is definitely a tourist area but truly a great place to browse and walk around after a meal. I enjoy taking in the Barcelona architecture and culture.

A major part of Barcelona. The best description I can make is it's a very long island/road/strip with full of touristy souvenirs, restaurants, street performers, and even illegal counterfeit items. Be aware of your surroundings. This is a major pick pocket area. I loved walking around in the evening because it was a little bit easier to walk around and somewhat relaxing. Don't forget to get a Barcelona magnet!!!

We actually stayed at a hotel in this area and I was not impressed with the area at all. Many local taxi drivers warn us of the pickpocket and how unsafe the area was which I did not know overall I felt very unsafe as a mom with multiple kids, and the area has also gotten very dirty

So imagine the Farmers market you just went to last week...you know the one with fresh beets & lettuce and other fresh produce sourced from local farms. And maybe there's a tamale man there too and you decide to grab 3 for 10 because why the heck not! Now imagine that same farmers market with those same great things, but also fresh cut meats and recently caught fish, and bread baked in front of your eyes, and things that smell so freakin' delicious, your head will begin to spin as your senses go into overdrive. Well this was my experience during my 2016 trip to beautiful Barcelona as I was completely immersed into their culture and way of life. The La Rambla marketplace is a foodie shopping experience like no other and it's definitely a sight to see. Tip of the day: Always be cautious when traveling abroad and always be on the look out for pickpockets. They often prey on innocent tourists and take advantage at busy sites such as this. Other than that, have a great time and sample everything! You'll never know you don't like something, unless you try it.

Hyped? Well, I found it hyped but every big city has a street similar to this. Isn't it? It is not a spectacular attraction in any way, but very pleasant to stroll down and feel the human heartbeat of Barcelona. La Rambla starts at central square Plaza Catalunya, where the beautiful Romanesque 12th-century Convent of Santa Anna stands, all the way down where Columbus monument situated at the Port Vell marina. This wide street, featuring expansive pedestrian sidewalks, is lined with shops, restaurants, and outdoor cafés, making it one of the most popular hangouts in the city. The bustling thoroughfare is one of the city's major tourist hubs. So much so that if you're visiting Barcelona, you're bound to end up here eventually. Souvenir stands, watch buskers and street performers, pick up some local art from artists selling on the street, or sit down and enjoy a light snack at one of the many alfresco cafes found here. It is safe to visit, however, be careful of pickpockets on La Rambla and in nearby Metro stations. After all, Barcelona is the pickpocket capital of the world. (You can google it). Also, Ask prices are restaurants on Rambla before ordering. Check reviews before ordering. I did the mistake so you don't need to repeat that. Don't forget to check out the Columbus monument at the end of the street. Its cool

Two words: People Watching Seriously, the people watching is the best here. Watch the locals try to sell their overpriced souvenirs or their mediocre meals in the outdoor cafes. Watch the hustlers try to sling cans of street beer, and whisper at you they have cocaine and weed for cheap. Watch the street performers do their thing. Watch the tourists from various countries. Take it all in and enjoy it for what it is. It's essential Barcelona and it's got to be walked at least once.

Hold onto your wallets down here as there are a lot of pickpockets and do not get involved in any 'games' here as they are a scam. It is very expensive and touristy and the live animals in cages isn't very nice to see. That said, it is a worth a walk down just for the vibe, but there are much nicer and cheaper places to be. read more

Don't miss walking La Rambla (or Las Ramblas as the natives sometimes call it) when you're in Barcelona - a magnificent tree-lined pedestrian walkway that stretches for about a mile through the heart of the city. Lots of outdoor restaurants and street vendors to visit as you stroll the avenue. We stopped for lunch and cold beer and crowd-watched for over an hour - then finally made our way back to the cruise port. read more

When we were in Barcelona last year we stayed at a B&B down by the Port. It was comfortable, attractive and convenient and we were treated to a spectacular and unexpected fireworks show over the Port our last night. I can't remember the occasion, but we loved it. It was a few block walk to Las Ramblas and unlike Eric, its charm largely escaped me. Though we saw no pickpockets, we saw lots of scam games, many al fresco tourist trap eateries and kiosks selling t-shirts and other tourist tchotchkes. The street performers were interesting, varied and fun. We saw very little original art, which disappointed me. The crowds of people were interesting to watch. We enjoyed walking through La Boqueria and I enjoyed the part of Las Ramblas farther away from the Port where animals and flowers were offered for sale. Setting on a bench and admiring the architecture of the buildings lining the street was a pleasure. As I sat there waiting for Alan to return from the bank I kept hoping a flash mob would burst out of nowhere, but none ever did. read more

This is talked about, written up, it's the must see, in guidebooks ... yet, I could've done without. Not sure what the fuss is about; it's full of drunkard college students, vendors hawking every imaginable Barcelona tchotchke, cheap knock off wares, substandard food options. It's loud beyond comprehension, no matter what day, there's a music scene, often on a stage, makeshift or permanent. It was overwhelmingly stimulating for me, the deafening noise too much. The best thing about it is the Mercat de la Boqueria, which if you love food, and who doesn't, is a must. It's a paradise for fresh prepared stuff and ingredients, produce and meats, sweets, all of it is glorious. For more details, I've written a separate review of it. If in Barcelona, it would be a bit of a travesty not to walk the famed Las Ramblas, if for no other reason than to check out what the fuss is all about. It goes on forever and though it's objectively about 3/4 of a mile, it seems like an eternity when walking it. It's awesome to veer off onto side streets, which offer its own unexpected charms. I was oddly disappointed because all the descriptions talk it up as "tree lined" and so forth, which conjured up images of romance and charm and vintage ... not so. Nope, it's a long stretch of commercialized capitalistic touristy sell buy, and pretty much every large city has one of these. Still, it's worth a stroll if only for the Mercat. read more

Las Ramblas is a must see if you are in Barcelona. We have been there several times and enjoy watching the people and having a bite to eat. A good place to spend some time and experience some of the Spanish culture is the large market that adjoins Las Ramblas. You will find all sorts of food items, small cafes where you sit on stools at counters for lunch, and people shopping for everything from candies to cow tongues. Along the Las Ramblas you'll find entertaining people who pose as statues and then periodically move into other positions or act out scenes. There are flower, pet, and souvenir shops all along the way. The thing to do is find one of the cafes along the Ramblas and sit facing the crowds as they pass by. We have eaten at Maximum a few times and find the tapas to be very good and at a prince point that is close to what they offer at other restaurants. I had a generous serving of red Sangria (9,95E) and my husband had a Cervesa (9,50E) along with a couple of tapas dishes that were ample servings the total bill was (36,25). In this tourist environment, a reasonable price. read more

I personally felt like I was at Venice Beach as we wandered down Las Ramblas. Granted, there are a lot of sights to be seen as you stroll down the lane (or try to, there are a LOT of people in Barcelona during the summer, and a large concentration of them seem to be congregated on this avenue). The Opera House, for example doesn't seem like much on the outside, but is AMAZING on the inside. I didn't see anyone on the street that wasn't a tourist, and I couldn't stop flashing back to a friend's hilarious facebook a while back talking about getting a 12 Euro sangria here that was part water and part ice with a splash of wine for good measure. Needless to say, we didn't make a stop here, just took a look on our way over to the Mercado de la Boqueria. It's a must see, but just don't expect to get your socks knocked off (though from what people told us, you should expect to get your wallet ripped off here). read more

Barcelona has amazing architecture and beautiful streets, but I was shocked by how shady/seedy Las ramblas and some of the small streets off it were. Especially closer to the port. Surprised we felt this way being from New York City and not a small town. I do feel some of the small town tourists where not as aware or street smart to the hustlers. Though much worse at night, it's still somewhat like that during the day. It was not a pleasant experience walking around watching your back. I would go just to see it, but Passage de Gracia is a much nicer street. read more

Cool street in Barcelona. You can expect quaint little outdoor shops selling small cactus, postcards, bouquets of flowers, paintings, and other items. Also people will paint you if you like and they have people dressed in costumes. A lot of action and lively people here. I would recommend a note on this street read more

Las Ramblas is party central in Barcelona, especially after a big win by the local football (soccer club), FC Barcelona. We made it a point to visit here a few times during our vacation to Barcelona. I can't recall the name of it now, but there is a nice dinner theater on Las Ramblas that has some good flamenco dancing. I wish I could remember the name so I could write a review for that business also. There are all kinds of things for sale on Las Ramblas if you are looking for some cheesy souvenirs to take home with you and there were a lot of street performers around when we were there also. If you are looking for night life, we did see a lot of clubs although I didn't go inside any of them. We got warned a lot about the pick-pockets that are bad here....nothing happened to us although we made sure we didn't have anything where it could be easily stolen. I could see how this would be a good area for it though....there are tons of people passing through this area at all hours. read more

I love this place and was lucky enough to live of the main strip on my last visit to this beautiful city.One memory in particular is going to a hole in the wall bar on the main strip and enjoying the street atmosphere.The owners were Canadians surprisingly enough and did know how to keep the crowd/customers in good spirits! read more

An interesting place to do a little (or a lot) of people watching. I enjoyed strolling down the street and walked all the way down to the port. I think I was more intrigued with the scam artists and watching them disappear practically into thin air when the police started to appear - I think they were more entertaining. The vendors definitely jack their prices up and aren't inclined to bargain so don't expect any deals. read more

A huge long street full of tourist shops and tapas restaurants and bars, its great to walk through it, but there definitelly can be found better or rather less touristy places in Barcelona. It is worth visiting the food market roughly in the middle on the street, with food and wine tasting. The best tapas places around Rambla are mostly hidden off the Rambla in the side streets. read more

the street is very fun, there are a lot of live spectacles like the football guy or the famous human statues all along the street, some are very amazing and worth to give a tip for the artist work. It is on this street that i found the main entrance to the famous market La Boqueria and also the Miro design, the street is divided in different sections with its animal stand shops, flower and artist. It was interesting to see the intricate design of the house and opulent furniture. The ceilings are impressive! You can get a feel for how the family lived when the house was occupied. The top floor had modern art and sculptures on display and the terrace has great views of the city. We were there for about an hour and a half, that was enough time for us to walk around and see everything.

The castle itself is pretty cool. We had a nice time exploring. We did not get on one of the guided tours just because of when we visited and stuff like that but those can be a little tough with young kids anyway we ended up eating in the restaurant on site and I walked away with terrible terrible food poisoning from the croquettes. It happens but definitely made the rest of our trip not quite as fun.

This is a bit of a counterpart to the busy Las Ramblas and starts just north of the Placa de Catalunya. As Las Ramblas it's a nice walking street lined with trees. But it's more quiet and at the same time more interesting. Trendy shops, luxury brands and lots of restaurants. And unlike on Las Ramblas there are actually good options to wine and dine. For fantastic Tapas just head around the corner onto Carrer Mallorca and eat at the "Cervesería Catalana". It's funny how this street isn't busier. Many just stop walking once the reach Placa de Catalunya. But you really should keep walking. This street isn't very long anyways and can be done in little time. But definitely worth it. W like it much more than Las Ramblas.

Be careful with your wallet? Otherwise a great place to promenade up and down the Old Town.read more

Certainly worth a wander down if youre visitng Barcelona. It is full of street entertainers and flower stalls and mostly a mass of people doing the same as you, just walking down and soaking up the atmosphere. You do get the impression that the shopkeepers here get a bit of trouble from tourists as some of them have signs saying how it was a thriving street before the tourists arrived and not to ruin it. fair enough. I think the very best bit of the street for me was actually a music shop at the top end (the other end from columbus statue). It was incredible, you walk in to find yourself in a very tall room filled wall to wall with big red leather bound folders containing sheet music and dsiplay cabinets with some nice guitars. It feels like a shop that'd be more at home in something like Harry Potter than this tourist mecca. Oh keep an eye and a hand on your bags as there are some dodgy characters around but as long as you have your wits about you then they'll cause you no trouble. read more

Like the others have said, La Rambla must be done at least once by Barcelona visitors, but keep tight hold of your handbag and don't let the street magicians and performers sucker you in to wagers, because even if you only want to nosey at what's going on, you can bet it'll end up costing you. That said, it's lively, colourful and atmospheric, and if you can time your wander so you're before or after the hordes it can actually be an intriguing stroll. Although I heard so many warnings to stay away from La Rambla in the run-up to my recent holiday, I'm am nothing if not brattish and stubborn, so I persisted with booking a hotel that was a minute's walk from the infamous main drag. And whilst La Rambla may be hectic, noisy, touristy and crime-ridden, there's also a lot of quirky and cool places to eat, drink and be merry on and around it. So keep your valuables close, brave the crowds and have a snoop around the side streets. read more

Si tuviera que describirlas con una sola palabra, sin dudarlo sería "VIDA". Y es que las Ramblas nunca paran: turistas, polis, carteristas, vendedores ambulantes, pintores, mimos, actores, restaurantes, tiendas, gente de todo tipo de raza y colores... Y a cualquier hora del día y de la madrugada. A mi personalmente me gustan, aunque sí es cierto que en los últimos años se me hace un poco pesado pasear por ellas debido a la cantidad de gente que tienes que sortear a cada paso... No hace falta que diga que es uno de los sitios de visita obligatoria para cualquier persona que visite Barcelona por primera vez, aunque cuidado con ciertos restaurantes y bares que abusan de los precios por ser un sitio tan turístico. Tener cuidado también con los bolsos y carteras. read more

Si eres turista tienes que ir, porque la verdad es que es un sitio especial, pero tened cuidado con carteristas y toda la gentuza que se ha ido situando por ese barrio. Recomiendo ir por la Rambla de arriba a bajo, empezad por Plaza Cataluña y acabad en el puerto. Ireis viendo un monton de espectaculos, gente disfrazada haciendo la estatua, alguien haciendo su numero, ... Conforme vayais bajando, pasareis de ver kioskos cada 20 metros, a ver floristerias y tiendas de animales. En los laterales de la rambla, hay de todo, aunque predominan las tiendas donde venden replicas de camisetas del barça. Os gustara el sitio. read more

Great place to spend the day/nightjust wandering up and down especially the human statues!.the bars were heaving on friday night but i think everyone was recovering on saturday because they were alot quieter.The place to go if you want more after La Ramblas shuts at 2am are the bars in the Port Olimpic..open until 5am. We stayed in a flat about 25mins walk from La Ramblas it was used as part of the Olympic village..good value. I also recommend the tourist bus get a ticket covering 2 days 26 euros and hop on and off best way to see Barcelona read more

I'm Mexican. las Ramblas reminds me of walking from the Caliente casino in Tijuana to the US border. Sluts, freaks, and crazies heading towards a promised land that they will never find, because it does not exist. I really don't get the appeal of this place. A street. Surrounded by tourist shops run by Indians. Populated by Africans selling crap from china. And every grungy freak from Europe and America want to come hang out here. Sure, the bocaria has decent fruit, but so does whole foods. I will frankly pass. read more

You're a tourist? Best wander this odd avenue. Ponder the artist impressions, check out the flowers and jewellery and trinkets, and of course the buskers in all their finery. Stride past the animals in cages Chicken anyone? No? How about a prostitute? This is the central pathway down one of the main streets of the city, and you can't really come here without attempting this stretch just once, but hold onto your belongings and keep your wits about you to keep it a pleasant stroll. read more

A really touristy part of Barcelona, worth a visit but don't expect too much from it. The statues are clever, much like those found on the south Bank or in Covent Garden. The real attraction down here though is the pet and flower stalls. Animals and birds of many varieties add lots of colour and character, not to mention noise! A lively street with a few bars and restaurants along it, a good place to start in Barcelona. read more

lugar muy tipico de barcelona, siempre hay muchas gente, y es muy conocido por sus paradas de flores, y animales, y sobretodo por los 'actores' que hay por la calle haciendo de muñecos ( estan quietos hasta que les echas una moneda, y hacen algo), es muy entretenido par alos niños pequeños. en la rambla tambien esta el famoso museo de cera. read more

La Rambla is one of the worst parts of Barcelona. It's Disneyland, seriously. When I lived in Barcelona I would purposefully walk around via Grand Vía or Plaça de Colom. The highest prices in Barcelona can also be found here. As well as the greatest concentration of pickpockets, thieves and drug addicts, oh, and tourists. read more

If you enjoy New Orleans for the French Quarter, or Bangkok for Khao San Road, Las Ramblas is the perfect place for you to blow off some steam. Personally, I prefer to explore other parts of the city, and staying in this loud party zone has no appeal. read more
