If you want elegant, delicious, traditional Chilean food this is your spot. This two story classy huaso (chilean cowboy) style restaurant is so perfect for a family dinner or romantic time out. They have so many different meat dishes that they serve with mashed potatoes or french fries. They have a smaller selection of wines however they are really really well priced. Most restaurants markup there wines up to 200% while Las Vacas Gordas only adds on a couple extra mil (Chilean money equivalent to about 4 USD). They have linen tablecloths and their servers will sing to you on your birthday. I love their wooden banister which adds another very classy touch. There are lots of traditional restaurants in Chile however it is really hard to find a place that has well cooked food and good service. The restaurant seems very lujosa (fancy) which is great however the prices are just so inexpensive making it perfecto!

It was so good. Picture does not capture the flavor

Great place for a steak! Wine recommendation was great too! Will be back when we get to Santiago from our trek.

I have been here twice and I will definitely return. The reason for the 3 stars and not more is the waiter that attended to us. The restaurant is within walking distance of the hotel I usually stay at, it is spacious with a pleasant decor. The food is delicious (I have ordered the lemon chicken with the creamed corn twice now). The drinks are delicious and not over priced like most nice establishments. I have had the misfortune of having the same waiter twice and both times he is downright belligerent. The customer service in Chile is usually sub par, so I am used to not being treated overly well, but this gentleman takes it to a whole other level. That being said, it won't deter me from returning, I will simply request a different waiter

Rather than gooey provaleta and "a lo pobre" fries, you will see mozzarella sticks, truffle mac and cheese, and burrata on the menu. The first time we brought U.S. guests here, I was actually a little bummed that everything was so familiar to them, but Carnal did not disappoint. We have come here with big groups and the staff are always accommodating. The wines are delicious and unique and the meat cuts are very American (as one Yelper points out, it's USDA, so you cannot go wrong). I highly recommend the Caesar salad, creamed spinach, mac and cheese, and oysters (they might be small and lacking the usual condiments, but they are tasty and you might just get more than you ordered). My hubby recently tried the cheese steak sandwich, which was VERY salty, but the fries on the side were perfect. I have tried the surf-and-turf risotto, which was very rich, salty, but an excellent way to enjoy the steak as well as seafood. Even if you're not in the mood for steak and want a salad, the dressing is perfect and the portion size is just right. Carnal has indoor and outdoor seating options and both are great since the street is not too busy and the inside is not too noisy. This spot can be romantic or all business. Enjoy!

However - I wish I hadn't ordered the bleu cheese salad because it was good but I was sooooo full and I wanted to enjoy my salmon. The French onion risotto was absolutely amazing. I had never tasted such a combination of flavors and I found myself dipping my spoon in this dish even when I had given up on my main meal due to being full. It was just that good. My husband and I do not speak Spanish and we had no trouble ordering and asking for recommendations. Everyone was super helpful and attentive. If visiting Santiago, ensure you make at least one trip to Ox. I made my reservation on line via email. It's in a nice residential area and a quick uber ride to the city. Consider doing a 1pm lunch and then going to the cathedral square for the free walking tour at 3:30. You'll want to walk off your meal!

Alas, we decided to go to Ox at the last minute on a Saturday night, and all the al fresco tables were already booked, but there were plenty of tables inside. We ordered a round of pisco sours to start - delicious and refreshing. A plate of warm bread soon followed. For starters, I ordered the blue cheese salad, which turned out to be enormous, but I found it to be long on iceberg lettuce and short on toppings. Definitely enough for two people to share - wish I'd known that. For dinner I got the bone-in ribeye steak. It was one of the most beautiful steaks I've ever seen - check out the picture. It was served with a couple different kinds of salt, which I'd recommend skipping, because the steak had plenty of flavor to stand on its own. Although the steak was done just right, unfortunately about a third of it was gristle and fat. I don't mind some fat on a ribeye, but in this case it was excessive. The restaurant has a nice wine list. We ordered a bottle of Chilean red, which was beautifully presented and a great complement to the steaks. As a joke, our waitstaff brought over an oversize bottle of wine to place on our table and offered to take our pictures. I guess it was pretty obvious we were tourists. As another whimsical touch, a dish of complimentary cotton candy was delivered to our table at the end of the meal. Overall, a good experience, although a bit pricey for what we got.
