I thought I would still give it a try. It could be some quirky cultural misinterpretation, I'm open to being patient for new cultural and food experiences. The bife de chorizo vetado was the toughest piece of shoe leather I have ever had. 40,000 pesos later I am incredibly disappointed. Avoid at all costs.

It was cooked perfectly and was accompanied by a nice sauce with shrimp, squid, and oysters. We were a…read moreparty of five (teenage kids joined us) and honestly from start to finish we were blown away by the service, the ambience, and the quality and PURE DELICIOUSNESS of the food. Our hostess was super friendly even though only one of us spoke Spanish. We were seated right on time and Enrique our server tag teamed with Patricio (who spoke perfect English) to take amazing care of us. Delicious warm bread with three toppings to start (refilled too). Which was great because the kids were super hungry! Enrique recommended a seared salmon appetizer and a delicious fried avocados and chicken appetizer that were out of this world. We had four different cuts of steak from ribeye to sirloin to spareribs to flank steak and a burger with truffle fries to top it off. Everyone LOVED THEIR FOOD. Seasoned and cooked to perfection. Patricio even explained the four different Chile meat temperatures for us so we knew exactly what to expect. We had a side of gnocchi with pesto cream (best I've ever had, definitely made from scratch) and desserts were chocolate lava cake, profiteroles and crème brûlée. We had an EPIC experience at this magical buzzing steakhouse and we can't wait to come back. Huge kudos to Patricio and Enrique for making our evening so special. We are so grateful.

And ShooGun is probably the most authentic Japanese food you can find in Chile besides Kintaro near Centro. Unlike the new joints in more contemporary mood, such as Temple Lounge (@ Intercontinental) or Osaka (@ W Hotel), atmosphere is pretty straight forward, old-school Japanese sushi bar or Izakaya. So this place is more suitable for more corporate/business dinner. *Not recommended for those looking for a romantic dinner. Food quality is good. Santiago has a decent seafood, and this place does serve good sashimis. As for drinks, they have pretty limited selection of Japanese beer/sake. You can still enjoy the domestic brands of beers/wines. Price setting is quite high probably due to its location, target, and hard-to-get ingredients. Because of the high price, the restaurant is usually not too busy. Most likely no need to make reservation.

The fact that they restrict themselves to mainstream and locally available fish selection is probably a plus, since the fish is fresh and tasty, and the presentation is legitimate and tasteful - actual sushi, rather than the "Papa John's Sushi Dippin' Strips" obscenity that is most local sushi, so unreserved kudos for that most fundamental metric. Still, the menu is flat and touristy. I would put it on a par with what you would expect to find on the catwalks at Japantown in San Francisco - geared towards the ignorant and wide-eyed tourist. The place is dirty, with visible accumulations of grime in the screen-doors. There's lots of waiting, mistakes, contrition, explanations in place of decent service. We had to wait over 10m between the natto and the unagi that we ordered simultaneously to end our meal "because they got other customers"? Seriously? Ankimo, and even ahi are un-heard of. The food was not bad, the fish reasonably fresh, and as with the rest of Chile's Japanese offerings, asking for Nigori Sake just breaks the program - the concept of unfiltered sake is just sooo incomprehensible. There are ladders hanging from the ceilings and walls and plants and bikes decorating the place. You climb long winding staircases up to the second or third level to enjoy a meal. I ordered a sausage pizza with red and green bell peppers. The pizza was large, however didn't have much flavor. I couldn't find any sauce on the pizza and had to put a lot of spices sitting on the table on it, in order to give it more flavor. The service was good, and they were willing to easily split the bill for a large party.

As soon as I mentioned I got sick, they hung up and then didn't answer the phone. DO NOT EVER GO HERE. Restaurants that sell raw product have to be very careful and the fact that they didn't want to even hear about it is horrible. I suspect they poisoned a lot of people, that's why they didn't want to hear it.

The food was truly spectacular! Probably one of the best that we have had in all of Chile. I really liked the calm atmosphere, and of course the food was fabulous. I highly recommend this restaurant. You definitely will not go away hungry, and the total bill worked out to be about US$40. Definitely a bargain for all of the great food and drinks that we had. Loved it!
