The business survived that chapter, handled by another excellent attorney, but one creditor had retained a particularly aggressive lawyer who had a sordid reputation throughout the state. He had his sights set on our home, and having already faced him on the business side, we knew we needed serious representation. We asked personal friends and professional associates for recommendations and Rob's name came up repeatedly from completely unconnected people. When a friend who used to work as a bill collector threw in his recommendation, we figured we had our guy. This case was an absolute rat's nest. Opposing counsel threw every trick they could find at us trying to scare us. Rob told us ours was ultimately the second-hardest case he had ever handled, and he's had some tough ones. He navigated every aspect with sharp professionalism and a real understanding of the nuances involved, both the legal and the human side of things. His counsel was well-informed and his level of caution was on point for the situation we were in. After a lot of senseless drama, we ended up keeping our home on essentially the same terms we had offered the creditor from the beginning. It was a fair deal throughout and one that fulfilled our responsibilities to the best of our abilities. One thing worth mentioning: Rob comes off at first as a soft-spoken, maybe slightly frazzled kind of guy. Do not let that fool you. Most people who hire him will never get to see what he looks like in a courtroom, and you are missing out. We did get to see it, and it was something else. After the first time we watched him argue on our behalf, my wife and I looked at each other afterward and pretty much said, "Holy shit, this guy is terrifying." He fights with facts, mounds of them, and he knows how to turn hard, irrefutable facts into a human story. After the first 5 minutes I thought "Wow bro just went full nuclear out of the gate". Nope, nope he had not, he wasn't even warmed up yet. I've sat through plenty of court proceedings and it's usually a dry affair. I would not want to be on the other side of Rob. That's all I'm saying. I almost, almost a little bit felt sorry for the grease bag trying to take our house for a minute. But nah. He didn't just file papers and blather in a courtroom. Rob saved our home and our way of life. In doing so, he helped preserve the stability that lets us keep running a business that employs a dozen people here in Colorado, continue to serve our customers AND fulfill our responsibility to our creditors.

We utilized this law firm and specifically Mr Gary Brown, and we were impressed by his work ethic,…read moreis honesty, his timeliness and answering all of our questions and will strongly recommend him and the firm itself to others for a variety of legal needs in the future. Very professional, polite, and friendly, and fairly priced!

Another "favorite" comment was when I showed Helen a picture of my daughter; she said with surprise that my daughter was "prettier than expected" and then stated that she took after her dad. I had mediation several times with Helen; it is good that she is finally retired!

After she listened to both sides, she spoke with us alone. She first spoke with my husband. When she came onto the phone to speak with me, she had already come up with HER "solution" of how things should be handled instead of asking me what I wanted and then negotiating for each of us without bias. When I confronted her with my concerns that she had come up with a solution before involving me, she said she was an experienced mediator and knew what was best. Instead of talking with both sides and finding out what we both wanted, she decided what was best for us. That is not the role of a mediator. As a result of what I perceive as mediation arrogance that resulted in false expectations, we ended up in further legal battle that cost us both lots of money. Even my attorney agreed that she did us both a great disservice. Instead of bringing us closer together, she pushed us further apart. At the end of our legal battle, we ended up where we started BEFORE MEDIATION, but it ended up costing us both lots of money to get back there. While mediation is designed to help avoid long legal battles through resolution, Ms Shreves actually made things worse. While she claims that she has much experience, her experience has created an arrogance of "I know what is best for you" that clouds her ability to be unbiased and help her clients try to meet a goal that serves them both.
