BEST thrift shop in San Diego, but they are closing. I found incredible deals there. Wish I knew their sources.

Love this thrift store ! They have an awesome selection, and what's even better is that their profits go toward helping shelter animals - a cause I can totally get behind. Unlike some other thrift giants, they're not all about the greed, making it my preferred spot for donations. The donation process is always smooth, which is a big plus. It's a win-win - find great stuff, support a good cause, and make donating a breeze. Kudos to them for doing things differently and making a positive impact! i was there this morning when I said I am a treasure hunter the sales person said she is too and I ask if you sell Gold she said she keeps all the good stuff in the back and she buys it herself another lady came who does the Jewlery at the Oceanside store on mission avenue and i told her what I was told and she said they have no rules and they can purchase them right away. this is not fair to the customers that we never get a chance to buy the good stuff ! unfortunately many thrift stores have this issue. No matter how many signs they put up which tell customers not to try clothes or shoes on, they still do it. Unfortunately this location has a high traffic of transients. Today, I saw a woman trying on knee-high boots and she had approximately 60 small round lesions on both of her legs. This person is contaminating this poor store's product! On the other side of the store another transient was trying on pants and contaminating them. I think this thrift store is somewhat good. Last time I went I found amazing pjs for a kinda good amount. One thing that bothers me,though, is the attitudes that the workers have. When I went up to happily purchase they had a nasty look in their face. And this is not my first experience here. I've gone a couple times these past few weeks and they don't acknowledge you entering their store. Stores are meant to be welcoming and show a positive side so customers can continue to purchase from them. They also overprice their stuff just like all the other thrift stores, how boring. I thought I was the only one who thought they seem quite rude until I saw other reviews. My family member that lives near there even said that they are rude before I even talked about my experience there. Consider this, I'm not the only one saying this. read more

Happened to go the last Thursday of the month where (almost) everything is 50% off. Also had a 75% off clothes rack. Nice selection of housewares, books, clothes, shoes, purses. Many vintage collectibles. I scored multiple NWT items and with 50% off, the price was good - $10-$15 each for designer/brand name pieces. Found linen pants and a Bagalini crossbody for $4 each. By FAR my favorite thrift store in the area!!! Every week they have a half off rack that applies to a specific color tag and by Friday that color tag turns into 75% off! Thursdays are 25% the entire store! They also have many gold sticker items that are "name brand" and very reasonably priced. (These are also included in the 25% off Thursday deal!) Wait! Theres more! Knick knacks, collectibles, jewelry, dish-ware, home decor, furniture, books, etc. Many of these being vintage items! As much variety they have it's actually the perfect size store (for my personality type anyway), too much can be just that. But LVAL has a great selection that's not overwhelming. Placed beautifully organized and many of the items have detailed descriptions of what/where/when they came from. So, you find your gems and leave with a smile because the staff is super friendly, there's usually a cute doggie to admire and talk sweeties too and above of all you are supporting a no-kill shelter that is passionate and dedicated towards saving our furry friends and working hard to give them a new chance at life. Fantastic thrift store with a dedicated and helpful staff. Whenever we've come down to deliver donations, there's never any issues with volunteers helping to unload our car. There's usually an army of people in the back of the store sorting through items all with the intent of helping animals in need. Support this great cause by coming through to Last Chance to buy something gently used and cheap, or drop a few bucks in the donation jar at the counter. This is my very favorite treasure-spot for so many reasons! I am a huge animal lover & I love that the proceeds help animals first and fore-most. Next, they always have such great stuff! And finally, the staff! Such a great place to go on my lunch breaks from work. (And I go often.) The manager has a heart of gold. Such a hard working, kind-hearted individual. (Who does a lousy job at keeping me out of the store! LOL!!!) I love the people who work here, they are all helpful and wonderful. The store always has new donations coming through so I can easily go twice a week and find different items each time. Today, I bought a gorgeous vintage painting! New to the area, I was eager to discover some of the best thrift stores in Southern California. I believe this one is top tier! For many reasons: the cause, the finds, the staff!! This is a little shop that supports a wonderful animal rescue. I would shop here solely for that purpose. There is a decent variety of categories-- clothing (mostly women's), shoes/purses, home decor, etc. Every week there are sales on different colored tags and on THURSDAYS there is an additional 25% off of everything. I felt the pricing was generally fair and I found some amazing vintage treasures I'm so excited to wear. However, the true treasures of this establishment are the staff!!! Please let me explain... At the end of my shopping trip here, I realized that I'd misplaced my phone. It was nowhere to be found in my vehicle or bags. One of the staff members helped me search the entire store and even described my phone to other customers and asked if they'd seen it. One person told the staff that they'd seen a woman pick up a phone of that description off of a shelf and place it in her bag before scurrying out of the store. (I'd apparently set it down while looking at some items.) The staff member immediately ran out of the store and across the parking lot and confronted this woman who then pulled my phone out of her bag! This person appeared transient and not like their typical patron, btw. I couldn't believe it. I figured I would never see it again. And that surely would have been the case if not for this angelic woman going above and beyond to help me. I would never expect the staff anywhere to help me find something I'd lost, but to go the lengths that she did-- confronting someone-- I'd never imagine would be the case. This experience is not at all a deterrence for me to visit in the future. In fact, it's an incentive. I regret not asking her name in all of the excitement. She deserves an award. I will never forget about this experience and how kind the people are that work here. I will recommend this thrift store before any other in the area for as long as I'm here! read more

I love that this store using its proceeds to help animals in need. I have donated hundreds of dollars worth of items over the last few years, driving about 30 minutes to get here from my home. The donation proceeds is always quick and easy. They have always had very reasonable prices until recently. Last time I was there about two months ago, I was astounded at the clothing prices. I will continue to donate, but will most likely not shop here anymore. read more

Decent thrift store with some rare finds. I stopped by today and was able to find a couple of cute Trina Turk dresses and a Karl Lagerfeld shirt, and my daughter got some "vintage" jeans. The woman at the register wasn't really kind. Cordial, but I didn't necessarily feel welcome. Yes, the name is *completely* morose but please give this place a chance. You won't be disappointed. Last Chance at Life Thrift store is a large thrift store whose profit's go to benefit the Last Chance at Life Shelter which is an all-breed rescue and adoption organization in San Diego County. Okay, so there are so many great options to check out here but the sections that I would highly recommend checking out would be the book section as well as the furniture section. This place is literally bursting with an awesome selection of books AND they're cheap. I found the selection of furniture here to be good. I bought an old industrial office chair here (http://bit.ly/15CJ6et) for twenty five bones and I am feeling so proud of myself and I wish there were words that could describe the joy that I experienced after snagging such a good item. I found the prices here to be EXCELLENT. Everything was reasonably priced and from my guess, the people at the store would have been willing to negotiate had I not been pleased with a price. In addition to the excellent prices LCAL also offers excellent sales days. Here they are as followed: Tuesday: No Tax ( LCAL pays the tax) Wednesday: 10% off military and seniors Thursday: 50% off clothing Friday: Pick one book for a dollar or less for free Saturday: 10% off for everyone Sunday- No tax 9-3pm The staff here was lovely. I ended up buying a chair but was unsure if it was going to fit in my car and one of the employees was kind enough to let me bring it out of the store and see if it fit into my car before purchasing it with absolutely no problems whatsoever. On top of this, the other employee complimented me on my eyewear which was wonderful because my self-esteem borders on low to disgraceful. Thanks guys! So this place benefits cute animals in need, the stuff here is awesome and well priced, everyone who works here is friendly and I'm pretty sure this is probably the kind of establishment that might be okay to bring a cat on a leash into. Like the sign says if you like animals you should shop here or something. The proceeds go back to a dog rescue and like a lot of dog rescues they need money to keep the rescue going. The store is pretty big with just about everything from shoes to umbrellas and DVD's. The prices are pretty good and it's for a good cause because who doesn't like puppies? So it may not be the best thrift store but they do have some good stuff and it's worth checking out. read more

A great mission, and large space. Friendly staff, and though there were no dogs while I was there that sounds fun to have them walking around. Loved the many many books!! Overall if you are coming for the furniture and not the clothing you will probably have fun. The clothing options were pretty low quality, and overall the store had a "very well used" vibe. Not the best stop in of the day, and will probably hit up other thrift stores in the future. read more

I donate lots of high end clothing & rolls of unused fabric from my clothing Company to this store. I had so much to drop off a couple of weeks ago. About 8 giant bags filled with designer clothing,new shoes in boxes & 4 rolls of fabric. I put it in my car until I had chance to drive by when they were open. I saw a U haul truck outside & someone inside on a Monday, so I pulled in & knocked on the door. Okay... so they`re closed on a Monday. Fine, but all I wanted to do was drop them off. The woman inside was very rude & kept pointing to the closed sign, even when I said I had bags of high end stuff that would bring them in a serious amount of $$$`s. I drove all the way to Leucadia to give the stuff to Rancho Humane Society. (I only donate to animal thrift stores). Pretty sad because LCFA needed the $$$`s more & Rancho had tons of donations. Would have taken us less than 5 minutes to unload. Sad. read more

Elizebeth this Yelp review is for YOU!!!!!!! I came in hoping to find a set of mid century lamps for my daughters bedroom. I found a vintage jacket and two other items. I also happen to have picked up a milk glass dish that had a major flaw as it had some blue tints throughout the dish. I thought, it would be cute on my daughter's bedside to put her rings in it. I came up to pay for it and Elizebeth says to me " that's interesting!!!! This use to be $2 and now it has a $1 tag that's blue" . Still not following what she was getting at, she goes on to say that's because the blue tags are half off today and this sticker isn't right. OMG I could not believe what she blatantly was accusing me off. I mean honestly, I'm going to walk around a thrift shop and look for a $1 sticker that's BLUE TO SAVE .50 cents. It's absolutely disgusting! Shame on you. I'm certain you guys have cameras. Why don't you have a field day watching your forage and I hope when you do, you feel a sense of shame. Somehow, I don't think you will as one has to have an understanding of what shame us to execute it!!!!! NEVER AGAIN. Nasty, rude and untoward. SHAME ON ELIZEBETH!!!! Today is august 10, 2021 11 am. I do not donate based on the volunteers...I donate to help the poor and defenseless animals. I will not lose sight of the fact that every donation and every purchase benefits some animal in some way. This is a great thrift store! It's come a long way! I have been thrifting for many years and Rancho Coastal in Cardiff was always my favorite UNTIL, change of management, twice in 1 year. Most of the long time staff is gone and it is awful, so poorly run. Come to find out, the original management that was at RCTH is now the running LCAL! **This review is for the Resuce, not the Thrift Store** If you're looking for a new, furry addition to your household, I'd highly recommend checking out this rescue group. I attended one of their adoption events at a PetsMart in Oceanside. I have not been to the location of their shelter, but it seems like a handful of dogs stay at the shelter, while others are fostered. I had emailed Second Chance a few days prior to the event to inquire about a particular dog. They were incredibly responsive- they wrote back with information about the dog, adoption info and an the adoption application. The day before he adoption event, I wanted to confirm the location of the event. I could only find a phone number to the Thrift Store, so I gave that a try. It turns out that the ladies at the thrift store were the coordinators of the event, so I was able to get all of the information I needed + their firsthand information about the dog I was interested in. (Based on this I assume most or all staff at the thrift store is highly integrated with and knowledgeable about the rescue). Leanne and Patti were great to talk to both on the phone and at the event- they were so helpful and excited about the dogs! They have a pretty cool adoption process, where you first have a at-home "sleepover" with the dog to make sure they're the right fit for you. I didn't end up adopting the dog that I was initially interested in, but I'm definitely keeping an eye on this rescue as I continue my search! read more
