My husband and I were staying at a resort nearby, but our hotel didn't have laundry services- so we decided to come to the local laundromat. The gentleman who owns this spot is a gem! He was so kind, offered us a military discount, and is always checking the area to make sure it's clean and well maintained. He was so friendly, and helped out his customers the entire time we were here with heavy loads or just navigating the machines. We started using the fluff-and-fold service for our 4 vacation rentals and agreed on a price of $20. All of a sudden I was seeing charges of more than $50. I didn't realize they were basing it not on per-piece or weight but on what it was - a duvet cover vs. a quilt. I am not sure why they would value a thin quilt more than a duvet cover but it cost them our business which was 4 aparments, each turning over several times a week. Interesting choice. read more

My Cal-King comforter was not so much dirty as it was covered with my little puppy's black fur. I have a washer and dryer. Actually, those were the first appliances I bought on my own, as an adult, the first major purchases I was allowed to buy--that any store trusted me to charge--after the abysmal financial failure that followed my divorce. The paralegal assigned to my case said, "Don't feel bad. Divorce and bankruptcy go hand-in-hand. You've never heard that before? Hahaha..." "No, I hadn't." I'm not sure why she was laughing. Anyway, my comforter is huge, but I'm not rich. It's a hand-me-down. But that's neither here nor there. It would never fit in my very own washer nor my very own dryer. So here we are. Washing my crap in a laundromat takes me back, and not in a good way, to childhood when I was really dirt poor. I got an education and a career, and now that I kicked some deadbeat bagage to the curb, I'm doing fine. Still, my boyfriend likes to tease me because he knows I stress about finances still, like a little kid. "Just find a bridge to live under that has an outlet for you washer and dryer," he tells me during times I can't stop that distasteful flotsam in my subconscious from bobbing to the surface. Or, "You can only fit one appliance in your shopping cart. Which will it be?" Launderland is clean and well-designed. You can buy detergents and such, and you can get quarters from their machines. Changing bills to coins sure sounds like Vegas. There are security cameras but a sign warns not to leave clothes unattended. I'll leave you to supply the why. Last wash is at 8:45 PM, but if I can avoid it, I would not go alone or with young kids at that time. There's desperate people, addicted people, and a vape shop and liquor store next door and a weird, blind passageway to an often-empty lot. All pretty sketchy. I know, it makes me angry too, that women, especially, have to consider such contingencies, but hey, education, man, educate the man. The pipped in music is nice. There are scant benches, one tiny table, and a very cool mechanical pony ride, like the kind outside some supermarkets, for 50 cents. The world does not have enough of those. An arcade game, temporary tattoo, gum and candy dispensers, a bathroom--everything thirsty for quarters, of course. Damn. Poverty is expensive. My load took $5 for a 27-minute wash, plus $2 for detergent (note to self: bring some from home), plus the dryer for 32 minutes at 25 cents the 8 minutes, equals $8 to wash my kingly comforter. I do it two or three times a year. There's a open door at the back that leads to a pretty expansive, usually empty parking lot. Instead of paying for sugar and arcade games, bring your kids' Big Wheels and soccer balls and let them have at it out there. Supervise them, of course. Where I sat was a stack of discarded scratch-offs, all losers, and a church flier of Bible teachings for children. So, putting two and two together, I see we're all praying for some god damn financial relief. The pamphlet gave lessons on self-control, humility, resilience, responsibility. Meanwhile a scruffy old goat walked past me yelling into a phone, "You sound like you're in... I don't know...Alaska!" He was carrying the tallest beer I ever saw and paused his walk to check me out. Full turn of his torso. Fully unnecessary. The patriarchy's dying, my friend. Ain't none of us here for your viewing pleasure, so move along, little doggy. Let me dry my one load. If he bothered me further, I planned to hand him that "Awake!" Christian lessons booklet; him obviously lacking either humility or self-control, and that being all I had on hand. Dude came back through from the parking lot, sans beer, eyes redder, and slurring incomprehensibly, "Are you dat with...dathadtha. Are you?" "I don't know what you are saying." I had to say it twice. "You're...you....you're. Okay." He was swaying and mumbling, then he was gone. He's lucky he didn't try more than that because I woulda kicked him in the shins. All and all, not as interesting as Lucia Berlin's "Angel's Laundromat," but ain't we all just out here doing our best? Yes, we are. read more

I love this place and it's the only one in the neighborhood that feels safe, to me. A few tips. It's easiest to get a member card (simply ask the attendant about it) and you can scan it and add funds right then and there or you can do it online at their website. Then you can just scan the member card at any washer or dryer there and you don't need to get quarters first... Except that... The problem with not having quarters is that they have a pay toilet. It does not scan your card because it only accepts coins! Whaaaa? That doesn't make sense and is the only reason it loses a star. The attendants are very helpful and speak English. There is a homeless guy though that hangs out there sometimes but he just sits on the bench and doesn't bother you except for his sad rambling. Next door is our favorite Thai restaurant and they do take out if you like Thai. You can eat while there, I think. They have vending machines but I didn't like what was in there on food. There is also a Hardee's in the lot. Oh wait, maybe it's Carl's Junior here. Anyway it's something. They sell forgotten items that you may need in trial sizes like dryer sheets, detergents and liquid softener. They're in the vending machine on the left as you enter. They have a variety of 'number of loads' washers like a size you'd have at home. Then there's a washer that does 3 loads of laundry and then yet another that does 5, so you can wash anything in your house that needs laundering like huge heavy blankets and washable curtains. I once did 15 loads all at once. We have an RV that doesn't have a washer and we took the slow road starting from Jacksonville on the 10,and drove all the way to LA on it. All our clothes were dirty by the time we got there. Lol! So! This is a great place to do laundry. Highly recommend but don't forget the toilet change. read more

I thought I'd use the reloadable card system but the printed poster makes it very easy to miss that you pay $3.00 JUST for the card. Then I counted 11 of 23 large capacity washers all out of order. That's 50% of their large capacity washers out of order. 5 out of 10 regular washers out of order!! Really?! For a laundromat to be so close to the naval base and be so crappy is not only poor business, it's just a waste of time. So, next time I'll drive to downtown Ventura to go to a very good laundromat on Main St. for my comforter or just pay for the dry cleaning somewhere else. Save your $$$. Go somewhere else. read more

I haven't gone to a laundromat in years... Unfortunately, the latch on our washer broke and I had to get some loads in before the start of the week. I came here since it's close to my home and it was really clean. You can pay with your card or with coins. The washers washed my clothes really good. The attendant that was there was friendly and cleaning the machines after every use. I'll definitely come here again if my washer doesn't get fixed any time soon or if it breaks down again. read more

Came In to do my laundry today and more than 1/2 of their machines are out of order. One machine was even over flowing all over the floor leaving 1/2 the room non accessible. Updated Even better now. The remodel is complete. What a change. This place used to be a mess, dark, dingy, most of the machines did not work. Now it is newly painted, bright, very clean, a lot of new machines and everything works. They have really big washers and dryers for large loads like bedding. They now take credit cards, coins [they have a change machine] and they have a Loyalty card program. They say they have a phone app coming too. New large screen HDTV's and Free Wifi!
