I've been a student with Village Music School for numerous years. Firstly, It's important to note…read morethat every instructor will teach differently from another, and so a student may thrive with one instructor, but not quite as much with another. So far, all of the instructors I've been with--4 or 5 thus far--have been good. As is to be expected, I didn't "click" with some of them, but I still learned and progressed. So if you don't "click" with an instructor, there's always the option of switching. Do give them a fair chance though; I can attest that I feel all of my previous instructors were good teachers, simple each with their own strong suits and personalities. The instructor I'm with as of now is Kyler Svensgaard, and the lessons are very productive and enjoyable. My goals are focused on classical music in piano, and he's been very responsive in helping me progress in this direction. He may bring up specific aspects of my practical playing to improve on or theory applicable to the piece(s) at hand, which I feel is of much value. And, if there's a new piece I'm trying to learn, we're able to readjust our plans accordingly. Lastly, the recitals at Village Music School are a fun way for students to demonstrate their hard work, progress, performance of their favorite songs. Over the years, I've participated in a few of those recitals and have good memories of each of them (despite my moments of stage fright, haha). All-in-all, my experiences with Village Music School have been positive, and, soley from a learning perspective, I would recommend them to anyone interested in musical lessons.

We were greeted when we came in, and there were quite a few people hanging out with their guitars. The showroom area isn't huge, but it looks like there is a lot of room for lessons and gatherings. After looking around for a while, we had several questions on repairing/modifying a guitar. The owner, Randy was very informative and took the time to help us understand our options. We have been to other stores but have not received the same level of service. I feel like it's the type of place where you can feel confident in what you purchase, versus buying something somewhere else and hoping for the best. Mark, one of the owners, helped walk me through what I was looking for, and he was really kind and helpful. He said that they don't have a whole lot of sheet music and stuff with the advent of the internet, but I did find some good deals and music. I told Mark that after several years away from playing, I wanted to get back into the piano and was looking for technique books to help with my playing form. As some other reviews indicated below, she seems very busy and has little patience - or care for the kids, it seems. We have been taking private classes with her for some five months, first in her studio and later via Zoom. Yesterday, I've asked her whether we would need to pay the same monthly fee for December and January, as she is taking time off and only teaching 3 classes each month due to holidays. It seems a little unfair to pay the same monthly amount, I said, but I would be willing to pay anyway as my daughter loves taking piano classes. Instead of engaging or caring to explain, Gloria said she will cancel classes with my daughter immediately... Which seems like a very stark overreaction, particularly when you think how kids get attached to teachers. I hate to break my daughters heart and tell her that Gloria decided to "retire". Very disappointed to see such behaviour from a person who we entrust our kids with.

It was my first time in this shop. Wow, what a great little music store. They've got a ton of Ukuleles and other instruments as well. I brought my Ukulele because my E peg was buzzing when I play it. He had my ukulele fixed in less than two minutes and didn't even charge me! Now that's what I call GREAT customer service! I will be returning for my future musical needs. I'm eyeing a banjolele that I spotted while my friend finished up her transaction. I do recommend this shop, they are friendly, give good custom service that you just can't get at the big box music store.

The format of one private lesson mixed with one group practice session every week seems key to student success - nothing beats jamming live with other musicians!
