I thought that this was just another chain store but it turns out that the only one is the one in Epping. Anyway, since I visit the cinema quite regularly, and since it is across the road from the cinema, I decided to go and pay it a visit, and while I was about to simply write it off I discovered that the burgers and fries were actually surprisingly good. The venue is set up like a retro American diner and fits the burger theme well. A lot of their menu is priced reasonably, which is definitely a positive if you are looking for somewhere that isn't too costly. We both ordered 'The Laurie Dee Double', which is their most popular burger, and we also tried their chocolate and banana frozen custard shakes. The service was friendly and was also relatively quick. If you are a fan of an American style burger, then we think you would thoroughly enjoy this burger. The patties were flavoursome and pretty thin - so we recommend getting an extra patty or two if you are hungry or enjoy a big burger, as added patties are only $2.50. It was also super cheesy which went well with the caramelised onions, special 'd' sauce and relish. The lettuce and tomato gave a bit of balance to the burger. The shakes were different to anything we have tried before. They were both tasty and really thick. I got here excited to eat here for the first ever time, as my friends told me this is a great place to eat at. They were completely wrong. The chips were completely covered in cheese, the burgers were greasy, everything in my burger looked like it was all going to fall out every time I took a bite out of it, and the wait for the food.... it took ages! And it wasn't even busy! There was only like... a few people there, and we waited half an hour to 45 minutes just for me and my family to get our meals. But the good thing is that the staff are nice and friendly. This place is terrible, don't want to come back and eat here again, and I never will come back and eat here again. I do not think anyone should eat here unless you want bad food to eat. Is there such a thing as a burger snob ?? @2014 Sept made the journey up north specifically for the double Laurie Dee Burger. The Mrs ranks this as the BEST she's had and she has tried a lot!! I drag her with me :) as for me... hmmm it was good but I can't separate between Chew Burger or Laurie Dees. Guess might have to go back to do more comparison. Lauries patty is great. Juicy not dried with crispy bits on the side. just how a good patty should be. It's very flavoursome without overpowering salt. The bun was mayb a tad bit small. It fell apart too easily. But it works! The feature was the patty and how the condiments of pickle lettuce sauce and bun complemented everything in one mouthful!! damn it am salivating already!! One of the best burgers in Melbourne hidden on the outskirts of Epping Plaza. No matter where in Melbourne you live, Laurie Dee's should be on the list of burgers to try, it is worth the drive (even if it is over 1 hour). I was surprised by the quality of the food and service. Usually with a franchise it's wham-bam thank you mam. The service was great. I arrived on time and informed that my order was running late & asked me to take a seat & would I like a drink while I waited. The ambiance was typical for a franchise except it was a little more subtle. Usually when walk the door you're deafened by some in-house station playing over the speakers advertising the specials. Have not been to the burger chains in America but these are by far the best burgers I have ever had hands down and on several occasions now. Whenever I go here I nearly die at the quality and flavour. They do the patties thin and fresh so the fat is cooked high and crispy in the meat and the cheese melts between the meat perfectly. Usually get the double which is perfect size and or the sloppy joe. The loaded chips are nice too and good to share. Had been excited about going to Laurie Dees for quite a while ... finally got there! Between us we ordered the Laurie Dee burger and the bacon burger, along with some cheesy fries. The patties on the burgers were tasty, although a little unusual in that they are thin and crispy. I enjoyed both of the burgers - but wished we got doubles as they are quite small. The cheesey fries were OK. The service was quite slow when we visited - it took almost 30 minutes to get our burgers. If I was in the area and hungry I would eat here again. read more

So working in Epping right next to the plaza it makes Laurie Dee's a dangerous location for me. I am certainly partial to a tasty burger and thats exactly what they deliver. I've gone through most of the options now. The laurie dee, the bacon and double bacon, the patty melt. These guys aren't doing anything incredibly innovative. They are just doing what they do very well and consistently Things I love about this place. 1. Their bacon is always thick but also somehow always crispy so you get the best of both worlds between american style crispy thin bacon and australian thick, hearty porky deliciousness. 2. They TAKE CREDIT CARD. Don't know why this needs to even be said in 2016 but for whatever reason cash seems to be king still throughout burger shops. 3. All of their burgers get a smash treatment so they get cooked and then get a last minute weight on them so the edges get all crispy. Makes it a textural delight but also makes it bloody hot cause it retains a crazy amount of heat. The only "complaint" is that its so far away in epping but since I work here that isn't a problem to me at all. read more

So, this is one of those little 50s style fast food hamburger joints situated at epping plaza shopping center. You walk in, pick your meal then sit down until your number is called over the loud speaker while sitting at your little table or booth. What I love most about this place is they dont try to make it feel fancy or fuss over you. The staff are very friendly and the food is delicious. American style, sloppy, greasy and filling. Whats not too like about that? They dont do meal deas llike other fast food joints but other fast food joints dont make such a sloppy, fun to eat burger with unlimited free refills from the "do it yourself" postmix. With all the classics such as "chilli cheese fries" to genuine "sloppy joes" served in paper baskets on a cosy little tray, it's very hard to pass up when shopping with the fam. My 2 year old thinks its fantastic with the mess he makes so that makes it worth the visit also. An easy 5 stars for convenience, fun and grubby hands. Bravo. read more

Please Laurie Dees, I implore you to franchise your business and bring it down south of the Yarra! We need you in our lives! This rates as one of my most satisfying burger experiences in Melbourne. It's not gourmet with wagyu or brioche buns, but just simple classic burger goodness. I'm a huge fan of "soft and yielding" burgers with thin patties full of beefy flavour and no veggies. The double cheeseburger totally delivers on this - no sloppy vegetation disrupting the cheesy meat flow. I love the crisp edges of the patty, that made it for me. Girlfriend has been raving about this place for a while, so gave it a try. I ordered a double bacon cheeseburger with no onion, got a standard burger with onion. Can't eat onion, so in the bin it went. My vegetarian girlfriend got fries, and they were smothered in cheese, so in the bin they also went. Seeing as we live over 20mins away, no point going all the way back to replace it. Might be back, but will be double checking everything from now on. read more

If you're into your burgers then Laurie's is a must. The menu is limited but covers all the basics. The burgers are a perfect size though they are messy so stock on the napkins. Having eaten before at Laurie Dee's I was shocked at the treatment and behaviour that I received when I dined at this establishment. Not only were the staff rude and behaved as through they didn't want to be there - no smiles and constant attitude, they failed to repeat my order to me which subsequently resulted in them incorrectly placing my order. Due to this oversight, I received a chocolate milkshake instead of the vanilla milkshake that I ordered. Upon addressing this issue with the staff at the front counter, they remade my milkshake but proceeded to mock and laugh at me in the process. When it was brought to the table by the waitstaff, you could clearly see that I received a banana milkshake instead of a vanilla milkshake. I addressed this with the waitstaff again only to have them argue the fact that there was nothing wrong with the milkshake. Snatching the banana milkshake off the table, she then stormed off and returned moments later with the vanilla milkshake I initially ordered, slamming it on the table. Overall I was utterly shocked by the treatment I received and due to this service, my friends, family and I will no longer be dining at this establishment in the future. read more
