No greeting--no nod, no smile, no acknowledgment at all. When I did find the book I was looking for I was informed by the male librarian that I was on the wrong side of the desk for checkout. So, I moved over. He sat down, did something with my card, the book and a stamp. Mumbled something about when it was due (I think) and then he left the book lying on the desk in front of him, rather than picking it up and handing it to me. While he was checking me out the two female librarians chatted on the other side of the desk. No eye contact from either woman. I love libraries. I recently moved to the area and could hardly wait to get my library card because libraries can bring people together and help them feel like they fit in until they truly do. Not here. Apparently, at the Portneuf Library, reading is NOT fun and libraries are NOT great.

They canceled storytime for kids. They have a very poor book selection. Honestly, who only has part of a series? This has happened multiple times, and because there is no inter-city library system in Cache Valley, you're just stuck. No other way to get the books you want unless you buy them. So that's really stupid. They also just announced they are putting a hold on allowing holds to be placed on books that are currently on the shelves. This library highly discourages small children anywhere in the library besides the children section. And I mean highly discourages. They won't actually ask you to leave, but they'll get pretty passive aggressive. If you can do multiple other events for teens and above, but can't bother with storytime and make it super hard for working, single, and regular parents to use your library, you're showing your true colors. Libraries are family-friendly. Or at least, they're supposed to be.

Beautiful, large library! Great place to bring your kids (all ages) and enjoy one of the many…read morethings this place has to offer. They have tons of kids programs with an amazing staff coordinating the entire thing. My youngest loves the preschool story time and my oldest enjoys the origami and writers workshop. They have a great book selection as well as DVDs, books on cd, puppets, etc. Also, they sell gently used books for only 25 cents! Love this place!!!

They have a great selection of general materials and are also a bit of a repository for many archival materials, as well. I know people that work here and everyone that I have received assistance from have been friendly and professional. The student lounge is cool and comfortable. They have couches, tables, and many power centers for you to use and recharge your electronic devices. They also have vending machines and a gigantic chess set in the shape of an Aztec temple. I should have taken a picture of that one. In any event, the Oboler Library is a cool spot to visit and study in and I will definitely be back to use its wonderful services. Oh, and they're open until midnight most days depending on the semester.

The student lounge on the first floor is great for lounging around and doing homework. They have 2 drink vending machines and 1 snack vending machine. They even have a fish tank. The fishies are so cute! The staff at the library is kind and helpful. If you have any sort of research question like how to find an article...the reference staff will be more than happy to help you. This library is a great place.

I've always liked Laura Bush ( brand new, never been used) and the other book is stories by Alfred Hitchcock which should be fun. this area of the library is worth checking out and the books are in very good condition.

Fun little library, especially for kids. Has a large…read moreselection of children's books, touchscreen computers for young kids. A unique feature is a small reading theater that doubles as a child play area, with a slide, stuffed animals and blocks. These features would be nice to keep one's kiddies occupied, so parents can do some reading, except this library lacks the reading nooks and private seating areas to do so. Southeast corner could be better utilized for private study or reading, but instead it's used for storage. And the couches in the middle are rarely occupied, their central location is so exposed its too distracting for a good read. Also, the adult and young adult book sections are very limited here. "Maker Space" is an interesting place for audio/video computing, but it's understaffed and underutilized. I know they do teach classes on it weekly, but I have yet to try one. I wish they had more activities for all ages of kids like I'm accustomed to at Salt Lake City libraries. They have a decent selection of books on cd, but have very few music cds. They have a lot of tv series on dvd, and a decent amount of movies on dvd. Blu-ray selection is small but mainly new releases. Library is kept clean and the building is relatively new. It has an odd area resembling a cafe with booths and large tables to do homework on. Public internet area is hidden behind the checkout desk, it's cramped but has ten computers. Free Wi-Fi is available here too. Because it's fun for young readers, I enjoy bringing my family here. But there's no real comfortable place for adults, and overall it lacks for everyday readers. But it's a small library, so some of this is to be expected. But I would rearrange the place and focus on comfortable spaces for folks to read.
