I came here for a drink before a Yelp event. It was a nice bar that was quite crowded during the week, probably due to SXSW. The bar had a decent selection of booze to choose from. I decided to try Austin Eastcider Ruby Red and fell in love. It was delicious and I highly recommend if you are a cider fan. Overall the bartenders were quite busy. The one bartender even apologized to me for my wait which was greatly appreciated and offered me one on the house. Score! read more

Since I started working downtown in February, I've been going here 3 to 4 times a week but I will stop and I suggest you stop going unless you want to get covid. Service was usually great when Lee or Alexis is working, however, recently there have been issues here. For one, the balding doorman out front often has his mask pulled down even though the front area doesn't have 6 ft. of space to stay away from him. Their guests are over served and walk out front without masks, getting irate with anyone who asks them to stay back or keep a mask on. I was literally attacked by a few different anti-maskers, had to call the police, and the door man wouldn't let me in even though I was sober and had been attacked by multiple other patrons for asking them to wear their masks while coming within 6 ft of me. read more

Lavaca has truly done an outstanding job during COVID - went in yesterday and was impressed with all of the measures they have put in place to keep their patrons healthy. Plexiglas partitions between each table and all along the bar. Hand sanitizer available and tables were wiped down promptly as guests left. I'm shook. They closed the doors right in front of our faces at 7:46pm. They had no regard for our time. We had been waiting and then they just closed without any explanation. We started our relationship on a Tuesday years ago, and I fell for you hard. I mean, who can beat a Tecate and a Shot of good Cazadores Tequila for $5? I have been going to this bar off and on for years. The name's of the bartenders change, but the cool vibe stays the same. This bar has a great layout, plenty of TV's for watching the game, pool, skeeball, ping pong, along with various bar games for each players delight. I have personally spent many a dollar in fierce competition on the Basketball Quick shot game in the game room. This is one of the few bars on West-side of Downtown that I can get away from the Duechebags of Downtown ATX. Turf N Surf grub inside for your belly. I enjoyed my Catfish PoBoy, but wish they would change the bread they use. It just falls apart when you try to eat. Lavaca St. is a nice bar, has cool staff, and good drafts. This always will win my heart. The Bartenders are generally really cool and down to earth. I had a great time joking around with them this last Sunday, watching my Rockets make me cry losing another playoff game to the Blazers. So...This has truly become a home away from home. I have been coming here I would say the last 5 yearsish? Staff has always been great, and the pizza was a huge draw before. Used to be 14 bucks for a 3ft wide cheese pie, MAN, delish! These days the grill is taken over,and the food is still great, just not the same. Now, the real reason I come here... Tecate Tuesday. Where do I begin? This weekly holiday of sorts has been my best friend and worst enemy all at the same time. $1, yes one buck, for a Tecate? 20 bucks can equal an epic drunken blur, and usually does lol Every time, and I mean, EVERY TIME, we go, I always tell myself, "Just a few." Tuf N Surf Po' Boy is inside Lavaca Street Bar which is what brought me here. I had no clue that this was a sports bar. I have passed by it a lot and never looked back until I had to come to Turf N Surf. Inside there is seating at the bar and around the bar, but then there is a closed off, dark room that has a bunch of TVs for all those sports fans out there. When we were there it was packed all over and there was a UT basketball game going on. The UT fans were all up in this bar. It seemed like the bar and Turf N Surf have a good thing going. Some people come just to eat and end up getting drinks like me and others come to drink or watch the game and get hungry so they get food. Win Win for everyone. I ordered a cocktail from the drink menu. It was ok. Steve H and my friend both drank Austin Beerworks Fire Eagle which was on tap. They had a decent selection of beers as well. We wanted a place within walking distance of the Moody Theater where we could have a beverage or two before the show. This place was the perfect choice. The place is well equipped with TV's, and since it was Sunday, they all pretty much had NFL games on, and tables nice and close to them. We got our drinks pretty quickly, and surmised that the waitstaff either works off some sort of "profit sharing" tip system, or, they genuinely care about ensuring you have what you need, as we were checked in on and waited on by several different people over the hour or so we were there. It was just enough, but not annoyingly attentive, so we thought that was great. So...food..... pretty strong selection of standard pub grub, but what caught our eye on the menu was the blackened brisket nachos. Now I'm not a guy who goes around saying "OMG" , but OMG, these nachos were freaking fantastic. Love how the napkins are randy for you to pull out. We probably took longer to decide what to order than the time it took to get out food, very fast!! The Jameson and ginger ale I ordered was suburb, nice and strong! I feel like I'm drinking Jameo straight it's delightful! The shrimp taco was blackened and full of flavor. It was drizzled with some sort of ranch sauce but not too much. Tasted fresh and was very filing. $10 for 2 shrimp tacos. The ribeye was blackened and very tender and tasted some what smoked. I ordered it medium rare and it was perfect. A little pricy for two tacos, $15 is a little steep. There was a lot of meat in it though, seemed like a whole ribeye. The chips and salsa were good. The salsa is very spicy and the queso was a little thick but very good. And bonus, I found a plug to charge my phone! 4 stars because their are candles, tvs, music, food and drinks! read more

WISCONSIN BADGER BAR!!! We were happy to find a place that played the Badgers game while we were in town visiting - they even had a big blow up Bucky outside. It was honestly packed to the brim with Badger fans which made for good cheering and experience. There were some great happy hour drink specials, plenty of seating, good music and good service despite how crowded it was in there. We got the oyster platter and oyster shooters which were super refreshing and delicious. We also got the queso (bomb.com), guacamole (can't go wrong), and salsa platters with chips - very good deal and the perfect munchy for a football game. We were there long enough that we got chicken too - great quality chicken and tasty sauce. Drinks are fine. Bartenders are nice. The noise level is a little out-of-control if you were interested in having a conversation. I guess if you just wanted to sit and drink and eat bacon, this is the place. The gamey stuff they have generally doesn't work and will eat your money. The pizza is pretty good, but not amazing. The green chili-cheese tator tots are very yummy. The handing out of the free cardboard trays of bacon on Thursdays is just strange. Some people get very excited by this. "Yay! free bacon!" There's plenty better places for beer though. It is a good place to go see a game as the sports crowd can turn out there. Now they have Turf n Surf in their kitchen. Super chill bar/restaurant. I was in town for a weekend and one of the locals recommend coming here to watch football on Sundays. It did not disappoint as they had TVs everywhere with all the games playing. I came a bit late so it was a mission trying to find a spot to sit. There are so many tables and areas to watch the games but the place gets super crowded so I recommend coming early! I luckily found a table in the back patio bar area and spent most my afternoon there. I didn't get any food and only drinks so my review is solely for the place itself and the service. The food looked like typical bar food. Service was okay. At some points our server came to check up on us frequently but also points where we could not find anyone to help. It gets busy so I understand. Overall this was a great spot to watch football and I'd definitely come back if I am in town. read more

I was there last night, our server Cassie was super sweet and attentive. It has a Turf n Surf kitchen attached to it that one can order food. I had the cod po boy which was delicious. Here visiting my son & my girlfriend in Austin. Came to watch the Wisconsin (my son's college) vs. BYU . Packed with college kids and some parents too. Many games going on here. The servers were SUPER busy. Here there and everywhere but must say how nice everyone was. If you asked it was immediately taken care of. Tristin was outstanding. She really took the extra moment to see how we were doing & when my son was not that happy with something she made it right Was not anticipating the food in a crowded bar but wow "The Hipster" sandwich rocked. I really enjoyed this place!! I was hanging out here for a bit before a show at Moody and grabbed a drink and some food. The bartenders were all very nice and responsive. The food was awesome. I got the blackened catfish salad (which came separate and that's how I ate it). The food was wonderful but it is a bit expensive however the portions are huge! My dissatisfaction is primarily as a Wisconsin fan. I thought this place was supposed to be a Badgers bar, but it definitely wasn't. I came here with a big group for the Badgers game on Saturday, but of the seven tvs I could see, the game was only being shown on the smallest one to the side. If you're looking for a place to watch UW, this isn't it. Other than that, the bar was pretty good. The service was good - staff came by every 30 minutes or so to get more drinks, bring water, etc. The wings were pretty good, and the sides had plenty to share. read more
