We visited this place with friends in town from So Cal and it was a great time. We had the opportunity to enjoy the solar show and can't wait to go back and try the AI exhibit. I especially appreciated all the acknowledgment to indigenous history throughout the establishment.

Had a ton of fun with my family here! Kudos to my BIL for the complimentary entrance for up to 6 family members due to his Air Force military status. It's usually $25/person for 3+. I used to go here when I was a kid and remember the huge whale in the front. The location is gorgeous in the Berkeley hills and it has a ton of fun educational activities and exhibits for everyone, toddlers, kids, even adults! They have an expansive toddler activity area, food/music/AI interactive exhibits, and one of my faves- the outdoor dinosaur exhibit with the most gorgeous views of the bay. They also have a new cafe with a unique menu, even had vegan options. We easily spent almost 5 hours there and the kids would've stayed for longer if we let them. Highly recommend for families with kids!

25$ per person for admission. Kids under 3 are free. 5$ extra to watch the shows. I'd say it's worth it for your first time. There are a lot of activities to do. They do have animal habitats as well. They do animal shows daily around scheduled times. The view was beautiful. I'd recommend bringing the littles

    Love the views here.

This was an amazing trip with two of my grandchildren. It was the perfect place for them and I found it extremely entertaining and interacting. Getting here is a snap and there is a parking lot right on the grounds. My son has a family membership and the only cost was for my wife and I. This is a beautiful spot and we headed right over to the 3D movie. My seven and four year old grandchildren really enjoyed this movie feature. Once complete they headed out to the live animal display and truly had a great time. My wife and I stayed with the young lady who had a snake crawling and climbing her. It was pretty fascinating to watch this. Many animals in glass cages to watch and learn about. The Lawrence has set up a great spot for kids to come and observe. I liked the main hall where they had demos on paper airplanes, sound, basic gears and mechanical toys. It was also a beautiful day that the kids could run and play outside. Really, a perfect venue for children and adults alike. KUDOs to the team at Lawrence Hall of Science

Going here for the first time, I didn't realize it was a museum mostly for kids. Had I known that before, we probably would not have come, but we just gave it a chance. The most interesting thing here, to me, was the globe showing all the airline flights all over the world. There are lots of interactive things here for kids to do. And this place sits high in the Berkeley Hills, awesome views of the entire Bay Area!!

Wow! What a fun day! We enjoyed the cool, hands-on exhibits at The Lawrence Hall of Science. They've added many new interactive experiences! There are a number of exhibits which I've added videos of. I feel they definitely stepped up the experience since our last visit From STEM activities to immersive displays, this spot is perfect for curious minds. Placed in the Berkeley hills, it also has some of the best views of the Bay.

It can be really foggy in the morning!

I'm a fan of the Lawrence Hall of Science but I was less impressed with their summer camps. The Lawrence's Toy Builders was, by far, the most expensive summer camp we signed our kid up for. The camp's description includes the following: Participants will use their creativity to transform recycled materials into a take-home toy with moving parts! We didn't see anything resembling a toy come home with our camper. But she seemed to watch a lot of movies over her two weeks at the Lawrence... It doesn't square for me that this is the priciest camp and the only one where they frequently plopped my kid in front of a screen. The camp seems to lack the adult supervision and structure of other camps my daughter attended this past summer. Overall, my kid was also less than enthusiastic about the camp, so all around Toy Builders was a miss for us.

For a museum focused on teaching basic science concepts to young children you really cannot go wrong with taking your kids to the Lawrence Hall of Science. The museum itself is located up in the hills of UC Berkeley. There are dedicated parking lots near the museum, though these do fill up pretty quickly on the weekends. Parking fee is reasonable and can be done at the kiosk or on your phone. We really enjoyed the AI exhibit on the bottom floor as well as the dinosaur animatronics in the outdoor area on the top floor of the museum. There is also a sandpit in the outdoor area with the dinosaurs that your little ones can play in, consider bringing your own beach/sand toys since there are only a few shovels provided by the facility. There is also a nice outdoor spaces on bottom floor to picnic in as well (bring your own food or doordash to the museum!). FYI the cafeteria is not open so you cannot really buy any food here except for some canned sodas and cold sandwiches at the gift shop. Overall expect to spend at least 2 to 3 hours there including lunch time to get the full experience. Highly recommend if you have kids between the ages of 2 to 12 to bring them here!

Took my two year old and he had the most fun playing outside in the ramp, though he kept slipping due to tree acorns and leaves on the pavement. I think this museum is better suited for 4 years - 10 year old kids. The indoor activities require reading and being able to do independent work. The dinos outside in the back scared my fearless kid so that surprised me. The views of Berkeley are photo worthy from these dinos. The few animals were all hiding due to noise. I think it is really pricey for what it is. It is standard museum rates $30 per adult, but given adults just chaperone in an old lecture hall, I feel it should be less. And you have to pay for parking!

Growing up in the East Bay Area I remember making at least a couple different trips with my schools. Just on the other side of the Caldecott, with stunning views of the San Francisco Bay Area, it's got to be the best museum on the planet. We've been making the trek whenever we get a free day from school and this time we lucked into the Dinosaur exhibit. My youngest was just in heaven examining everything. We spent a good amount of time playing with the motorized figures outside, including pretending to run from a dino attack! Inside, we were treated to a globe which displayed the view from space, an earthquake simulator, gravity testing, and the AI lab. I know the museum gift shop is named the "Discovery Store" but really, isn't that what the entire museum is? It's selling scientific discoveries with your ticket right? It's ok, I know I'm a little weird. We saved the whale and DNA structure for last as we were heading home. I insisted on having the kids pose in the DNA for me, cause my DNA in DNA was too funny to resist.

The Bay Area Discovery Museum somehow manages to feel exciting without feeling overwhelming. There are indoor exhibits, outdoor play areas, sensory stations, bubble activities, climbing structures, toddler-friendly areas, and sand play with Golden Gate Bridge views. The layout makes it easy for kids to naturally move from one activity to another without parents constantly redirecting the day. The overall vibe feels chill, playful, interactive, and very exploration-focused instead of overly chaotic or overstimulating. Quick guide below. What really stood out to me was how thoughtfully designed the museum feels for both children and parents. Many activity areas are staffed, which makes the experience feel more interactive and supported instead of parents having to carry the entire outing themselves. One staff member even pulled out a little guitar during one activity, and suddenly kids and parents were all singing together like a tiny spontaneous flash mob It gave the whole place a really warm, community feel instead of feeling like just another children's museum. I also loved the dedicated toddler play areas where bigger kids can't just run through and take over, which made it feel much calmer and safer for little ones still learning to explore independently. ------ QUICK GUIDE What matters: * Free parking available * Designed mainly for kids ages 0-8 * Indoor + outdoor children's activities * Toddler-friendly play areas * Bubble + sensory activities * Sand play area * Large climbing/play structures * Golden Gate Bridge views * Bathrooms throughout * Stroller-friendly paths * Staff throughout activity areas * Open space to roam and explore * Great for both low-stimulation and high-energy kids * Easy place to spend several hours with children ------ Pro tip: if you accidentally forget diapers or wipes, they have diaper backpacks stocked near the bathrooms -- one of those small details that makes the whole place feel genuinely parent-friendly. Adding photos because it was hard to picture the overall layout before going.

Such an amazing experience, and now that we've been once, we're already excited to plan our next trip to make it more of a full-day adventure. Coming from the East Bay, the drive was nice. Where the Bay Area Discovery Museum is located, you feel you're in a movie set. Gorgeous Bay views, just overall incredibly picturesque. A few notes when planning: check museum times (we ended up arriving close to their closing time, so our tickets were reduced in price which was nice), but we def could have been playing/exploring for longer. Also, there is a safe parking lot adjacent to the museum. We were greeted by friendly staff and given a map of the area. They outlined what could be fun for our kiddo's age range, and we honestly had such a fun time. From bubbles to music, water play to trains, an oversized fruit exhibit to pirate ship, there's so much to see and do, and ground to cover. We also noticed a cafe too with patrons grabbing coffee and whatnot. We have friends that have a membership which would be fun to consider for future. Can't wait for round two already!

At the water play area, my child took off his shoes (you know... at a water feature), and we were immediately told he could only use his hands--not his feet. I explained this to him, he was listening, all good... or so I thought. A few minutes later, the same staff member circled back like we were committing a repeat offense, and then a supervisor came rushing out like there was an actual emergency. In front of everyone, she asked my son, "Where is your parent?"--which felt unnecessarily dramatic and honestly a bit humiliating for a kid who was doing his best to follow directions. Then came the lecture. I got a full, very intense Public reprimand and rundown about hand, foot, and mouth disease, delivered with the urgency of a public health crisis... over a kid standing near water without shoes on. Look, I understand hygiene and safety. But the energy here was wildly disproportionate. It felt less like a place for kids to explore and more like a place where adults hover, monitor, and correct every move. If your idea of a fun outing involves being policed over minor things, you'll love it. If you're hoping for a relaxed, kid-friendly environment... maybe adjust expectations.

TBH, my expectation were kind of high because just the month before, we had visited a planetarium in Arizona that just blew my mind and was so cool (will write a review on that one soon) so I think my review of this Space & Science Center might be a little more serious, ha! To be fair, this is not a planetarium, although there is one here, which is used to show short featured films about different space exploration and nature-based stories which we did watch 3 of and they were really good. However, as a Space & Science Center, the focus is on space exploration by NASA and the science behind it. Specifically, the NASA Ames Research Visitor Center is located here. This place is ok for little kids, but probably better for those about 7-8 or older as they'll actually remember and get something out of this Science Center. When you enter, there's a little gift shop to the right, then you will purchase your tickets (which can be applied towards membership should you decide to buy an annual one) and enter into the exhibit hall on the first floor. From there, the planetarium/theatre is to your right and there's shows to watch every hour on the hour, some of them are a half-hour long, and some are only about 15 minutes or so. Different topics/titles and they do not repeat, so it is best to get to this Space & Science Center by mid-morning and plan to stay the whole day. Next there's a NASA visitor center with exhibits of actual space suits, lots of pictures of historic and current/recent space endeavors and journeys, as well as posters explaining how NASA developed the technology to take us to the moon and different parts of the universe. There are also interesting autobiographical posters written by astronauts and other space scientists on their roles in space exploration. There are a few hands-on activities such as using Kinetic sand, and other low-level simple engineering type of fun experiences for younger kids. Finally, there's also a cafeteria on the first floor towards the back of the building. Prices are a little high, but expectedly so for a museum/science center type of venue. On the second floor, there's several classrooms, and then there are some exhibits from retired space vehicles such as a real module you can climb in and play with that still has all the (non-functioning, obviously) controls. My kids had a great time with that. There were even a dog-space-vehicle/container thing, and lots of smaller spacecrafts and many space suits and miniature replicas of space shuttles on display. Finally, on the top floor, there's the observatory with several huge rooms that contained one telescope each for viewing real stars and planets, although they were all hard to see during daytime and realistically, they're all so far, you can only see like a speck of light when viewing Venus, for example, or the star Betelgeuse. But since it's outdoors, you find yourself surrounding by the redwoods out in nature, and it is just so peaceful and beautiful. I imagine when it gets even warmer later on in the summer, at night, that the night sky would be spectacular here. Overall, we really enjoyed coming to Chabot Space & Science Center. It has something for everyone and my kids, my husband, and I all enjoyed it. It's a cool place to feel the vastness of our universe and the greatness of our Creator, and to appreciate that humans have made some pretty cool strides in exploring and discovering our galaxy and yet we've only just scratch the surface. We'll plan to come back, but may try to visit other similar space centers first.

My wife loves to find educational opportunities for our family outings. We came on a Saturday, and…read moreit was a pretty cool experience. At the entrance, there's a little gift shop to the right, before the ticket counter (pretty steep) and then the exhibit hall is on the first floor. Since this is a Space & Science Center so it's not technically a planetarium, but there is one here where they show short featured films about nature and space exploration. We watched 3 of them, and they were all pretty well done. So this said planetarium/theatre is on the first floor too, and the shows are every hour on the hour, some of them are a half-hour long, and some are only about 15 minutes or so. Different topics/titles and they do not repeat, so it is best to get to this Space & Science Center by mid-morning and plan to stay the whole day. The focus of this Space & Science Center is about space exploration by NASA and the science behind it. In fact, the NASA Ames Research Visitor Center is housed here. My kids are both older now and they definitely got some learning out of this NASA center, which if they were younger, would be too hard for them to understand. There's exhibits of space suits, pictures of historic and current space endeavors, and displays explaining how NASA developed the technology to take us to the moon and other parts of the universe. There are also interesting autobiographical posters written by astronauts and other space scientists on their roles in space exploration. Further back on the first floor, there are a few hands-on activities such as using kinetic sand, and other simple engineering experiences made into fun for younger kids. There's also a cafeteria on this floor towards the back of the building. Prices are a little high, but expectedly so for a museum/science center type of venue. The second floor houses several classrooms, and then there are some exhibits from retired space vehicles such as a real module you can climb in and play with that still has all the (non-functioning, obviously) controls. My kids had a great time with that. There were even a dog-space-vehicle/container thing, and lots of smaller spacecrafts and many space suits and miniature replicas of space shuttles on display. On the top floor, it's basically an open area/observatory with several huge rooms that houses one telescope in each for viewing stars and planets. They were hard to see in daytime and are so far, you can only see like a speck of light when viewing a planet. I "saw" Venus, but it was just a dot, or for example, I "saw" Betelgeuse the star, haha. This beautiful space is surrounding by the redwoods, so it was a nice area and so peaceful. Later on in the summer, when it gets warmer, I think the night sky would be spectacular here and real nice out even when it gets totally dark. We enjoyed our visit to Chabot Space & Science Center. It has interesting things that should provide something for everyone and we all enjoyed it. I felt the vastness of our universe and the greatness of our Creator, appreciated that us humans have made some significant strides learning about and exploring our galaxy, but there's still so much more we don't know and much more we have to go. My attempt at a deep thought, haha.

My son and immediate family had such a fun time this visit at fairyland. I haven't been since I was…read morelittle so it was definitely full circle bringing my child. This place has been around since my parents were little and they've been there too! Pretty neat. I used my wic card and valid photo Id for 5$ tickets, I couldn't tell you exactly how many is the cap but there were 5 adults and the kids were free I believe. We went as soon as it opened and the park was not overly packed at all it was really nice. I plan on getting out with my kiddo whenever I get the chance as I saw many mothers just hanging out with lunch for their kiddo for the day and I just loved that idea. Everything was open for the most part except two attractions which didn't stop us from enjoying the visit all around. From what I've learned if you visit the park twice your third visit you get a year pass! I'd say that's pretty convenient being a low income single mother. Hope I helped convince you to go !

I think fairyland is an awesome place to bring your children to let them run around & play. I did feel a bit overwhelmed because it was literally every head start in Oakland so it was tons of kids, but I would I bring my daughter & son back again. Also I really enjoyed their Cafe too! Although I do feel like 10.95 is alot for 4 slices of pizza but I understand. It was still delicious.
