I received some of the best customer service I've ever received today from a fast food restaurant. Edgar is an absolute pro and very nice. I had a minor issue and he took care of it right away! As an Aggie I know I should be partial to Laynes (and not Canes), and I am, but I feel like the quality isn't quite what I remember from my college days I can't speak to the cleanliness of the store or the service so to speak, but I had a meal delivered and it took nearly 20-30min for them to say it was ready, and then my delivery took longer than expected to the point that my meal was cold and soggy. I do like how the to-go was packaged with the sauces in a separate container, ketchup, and utensils provided I will say I think Laynes has better flavors both in chicken strips and their sauce. The prices are fairly reasonable when compared to Canes, but I feel you get less in terms of fries and chicken size. I do like that Laynes also offers spicy chicken strips I really do prefer Laynes to Canes as it gives me nostalgia. I am glad there are now a handful of locations popping up all over Houston. Some tips: I would definitely dine in to get more of the experience and to ensure your meal is fresh and hot. Get extra sauces (they are an additional charge), but they're delicious. I dropped by Layne's recently with a mobile order and had a pretty rough experience with the customer service. Layne's hadn't started making the order until I arrived, which made the mobile order process seem pointless. I got the food, headed home, and realized I'd received someone else's order -- a very obscure order, at that. Understanding that things happen, I went back onto the mobile order platform, and logged a concern about the order. The platform said I would hear from someone in the next few business days. A week later, I hadn't heard from anyone. With no luck there, I reached out to the restaurant through their Instagram account. I received a response, asking me to send an email to someone at the Houston franchisee. I sent the email nearly a month ago and never heard back. Really disappointed that they are either too disorganized to stand behind their customer experience, or just don't care, when they've pointed me to two channels and haven't responded on either. It may look good but honestly it's a cheap copy of raising canes . Actually it's worse than canes . The food here is decent but the chicken is soggy and wet and gross and mushy . The fries here are soggy AF and the bread isn't anything special. The staff here take forever to get you your super over priced basket of chicken which you pay $30 for . A lot of my friends have been raving about Layne's so I had to give it a shot! I tried their 5 finger combo and I liked that they had a spicy option. The tenders were seasoned pretty well (not very spicy), though I do wish the breading was a bit crispier. I loved the variety of sauces you could choose from; I'm a big sauce guy. I tried the jalapeño ranch and it was creamy and savory. The crinkle cut fries were nothing to write home about. The toast was very plain too. This location is tight - but it was when it was a chicken place before - and Layne's engineered the Shepherd side entrance and exit with raised curbs to clearly define the entrance and exit. With signage. Great job! I love that they use paperboard boxes and paper cups, and i ordered a spicy four finger meal like I had before at another location. The spice is bold enough to make you notice it and make my nose run a bit, but not so overpowering I can't eat it. I stick with the classic cream gravy and everything today was perfect. Tender fresh juicy tenders straight out the grease, and crinkly cur fries that have a soft creamy interior and mega crunch exterior - and the toast was perfectly griddled I used half my gravy on it. There were no pics because drive through and tbh it was too good to wait. They serve Coke products and the staff was friendly and I waited at the window less than 5 minutes after placing my order. It was great to be able to mix and match the chicken finger type( reg vs spicy) My soft drink was obtained from the fountain dispenser thing - got a root beer that tasted off - maybe the machine was too clean, or maybe people don't like rootbeer. The aftertaste was chlorine -ish? The food: The food was hot! The regular chicken was delicious, hot, and steaming, with what tasted and looked like real chicken. Breading was light and crunchy. My chicken finger connoisseurs (8 - 12 yo ) felt that the chicken fingers were amazing, and rivaled any other establishment. I was asked to trek back and get more.. The spicy finger was actionable. I actually enjoyed the food a bit better than Cane's. Spicy or regular tenders. I opted for spicy and they were great. The breading doesn't slide off like at Canes. Crinkle fries were a bit crispier as well and tasted great The Texas Toast was a full-size piece of bread instead of the smaller oval shaped The only negative for me was the sauce. It's close to Cane's but had a definite processed mayonnaise tang that was too strong. They have several options available including cream gravy, ranch, jalapeno ranch, & honey mustard. The offer fresh lemonade here AND they have milkshakes. Salted Caramel. Yum! They offer a couple of different chicken sandwich options including a Club, Grilled chicken Wrap, and a grilled cheese. Potato salad is also available I was actually headed to Raising Canes when I happened by this place. Looks like a worthy competitor. Sure, they're a blatant copycat that answers some of the wishes about Cane's many of us may have had. A note about the interior, it's a bit bland/stark but I'm sure as the place grows that will be addressed.
