The question you may be asking is: what Protestant sect is this church? The Congregational Free Church of Christ (CFCC) is technically a congregationalist church, which is defined as: "A Protestant denomination that has roots in the Nonconformists of England. The Congregationalists are much like the Methodists in their teachings. They consider the individual congregation the basic unit of their church, and they practice baptism of infants." So essentially, it's a completely independent self-governing church that doesn't strictly adhere to a specific religious tradition such as Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist, etc. Definitions aside, the church itself was purchased from Fort Indian Town Gap in the late 1990s and moved to its current location. It served the military base for decades before it was closed due to disrepair. The church was taken down, transported, and rebuilt with the help of Amish workers. The church proudly maintains its military heritage, with military flags lining the walls and a memorial plaque for members that served in the armed forces. Services start at 9:00 AM Sunday mornings until 10:00 AM. The church is led by Reverend Jeffrey Stonesifer, whose sermons typically last between 15-20 minutes, and are less church-of-the-quivering-brethren and more academic but still accessible to his audience (and always upbeat). The CFCC also has a dynamic and robust Sunday School program, with one room for the older children and one room for the younger. The teachers here are wonderful, and the children have a great time (if the squeals of laughter coming from downstairs is any indication). Everyone is very friendly and welcoming to new people and visitors. The Church is a popular location for weddings, baptisms, and receptions due to it's quaint interior and large basement with a fully functioning kitchen. There is also a garden outside with a large trellis that is frequently used for wedding photos. The church is also very active in fundraising and hosting events, the most popular being the Chinese Auction. I'm not sure why you would be scoping out churches based on Yelp reviews, but if you are in need of a place of worship you can't do any better than the CFCC. Since this is pretty much a food blog, I'd be remiss not to mention the delicious Sunday Breakfast once a month ($6) and numerous dinners.
