A cake staple of Hollywood, this bakery has conquered hearts and minds. In my opinion, they make most delicious European cakes and pastries, using high quality, rich ingredients. These European cakes are complex in preparation process, with multiple layers and multiple textures of deliciousness. Cakes like Jakonda, Sour Cream cake and cake Kyiv, are probably the best and most delicious in town. When I pass by and want a quick bite, I go with Chocolate Kartoshka, which is really a Ukrainian-Russian take on a Rum Brownie. It's absolutely delicious. The customer service here is always great and it's really a to-go place, but they do have 2 tables on a small outside patio, for that quick bite. All the cakes are prepared by Ukrainian and Russian grandmas, with 40 years of Soviet baking experience, so you know this stuff is good. Highly recommend! read more

I had been referred to this bakery by a friend and it is clear that it's ran by one older gentleman. the communication was sparse and on the day i was supposed to pick up my order they told me they closed at 4. i made my way over to the bakery around 3:20 and called to let him know i was on the way but he wasn't answering. which i didn't find odd because he wasn't great with communicating throughout our entire interaction to begin with but i did attempt to call him numerous times to let him know. i arrive to the bakery before 4pm and the doors are locked. i knocked a few times and was disappointed that he lied about the time of closing and now my friend is left without a birthday cake. this was very unprofessional and i am so disappointed in this experience. read more

I loved my experience at this bakery. It's a small corner shop with tons of treats inside. The girl working the front was incredibly sweet and helpful. I am from Ukraine and lemon cake was my absolute favorite desert.... after moving to LA I have not been able to find it at any bakery..... Until one day my father car from Le Bacon Bakery and brought me lemon cake. It was absolutely perfect!!! Every other week when he is in West Hollywood he stops by to get me a few.... At times it is fresh and at times not so much... Today, after years and years , I got a big one from him and was so looking forward to enjoying w some tea. To my huge disappointment it was so so so old, that when I was cutting a piece it all came down like sand.... I ask my dad, how was it possible and he told that the lady, who used to let him know when the cake is fresh and when it is not, no longer there. It is so sad to me that at the place that has been serving a Russian/ Ukrainian community for many years, this experience is possible. So I ordered a bday cake for my friends party. I saw the reviews and thought it was definitely worth a shot. Hmmm So I saw a picture of a cake in their gallery I liked and asked for the same thing. I wanted happy birthday and my friends name on it and I wanted a chocolate cake, her favorite. I was supposed to pick up and forgot and an employee called me, huge kudos for following up!! I got the cake and it looked good, except there was no happy bday on it. They said they would add it, but wrote it on a piece of chocolate and stuck on the cake. It messed up the beauty of it all as you can tell it was added on and sloppy. I really didn't have time for any other adjustments so paid them and left. We get to cutting the cake at the party and guess what?... it's not chocolate. It looks like a hybrid of carrot and strawberry cake. It was not good. And I was upset because my friend liked chocolate. My friend tried to downplay it because she knew I wanted to make her happy. And I downplayed it, but knew what she really wanted. I went back and told them that they didn't give me a chocolate cake. (And showed a slice of the cake) Their response was, "this is our chocolate cake and our customers know that this is what they'll get when ordering a chocolate cake" WHAT?? I've bought a pan of baklava here a few times, and it was always good -- drier than the kind you'd get at a Greek or Middle Eastern place, but still very good. Over the last couple of weeks, I stopped in a few times and they were always out of baklava. Finally, two days ago, they had some. What was a little weird, though, was that the ones they had out were all significantly smaller than the pans they're sold in, as if they'd shrunk after baking. I bought a pan anyway. I tried a piece that night and it was okay. But it seemed sort of soggy -- the pastry wasn't dry, crisp and flaky, the way it usually is. This morning, no more than 36 hours after I bought it, I discovered the bottom of the baklava was covered in green mold. Disgusting! Clearly it wasn't fresh when I bought it, despite the "Fresh Daily" sticker on the packaging. I definitely won't be returning here, for the baklava or anything else. read more

My husband insisted that we have Russian cake at our wedding, so we got ours from here. After the nice lady gave us a plateful of samples (most of them quite good), the last one -- jaconda (cranberry, white chocolate) really blew me over. The tartness of the cranberry offset the rest of the cake, so I felt this would prevent a too-sweet or dry cake for our guests. We got a four-tier cake for about 100, which ultimately served about 70, a huge portion of leftovers for the in-laws, and the top tier that is now in our freezer. The cake was beautiful and came in a timely manner on the morning of the ceremony! We also ordered a very large loaf of challah (slightly dry, probably due to its size) with it, and it all came out to around $500. Thank you, in-laws! Instead of doing 3 cake tiers, we did 3 different cakes that were served separately (each with its own flavor). Although, this bakery can do anything you desire - really. But as for the Eclairs - I'd put more cream stuffing in there, it's a bit empty as for the filling inside and slight dry because of that. I'm a fan of their cranberry cake- it's really something- a combination of soft sour cranberries in a merengue pastry with nuts and cream - "it just hits the spot" like they say and makes your day. So we found this place on Yelp while driving through LA after lunch and wanting a little afternoon sweet. This place is a classic city family bakery at its best! Upon arriving, the family who owned the bakery was sitting outside and enjoying little a family meal after I imagine a lot of baking. Everyone was very friendly and kind and the service was excellent. They answered all of our questions and were quite helpful and accommodating in selecting the right pastries. We grabbed about four different to go and a cherry pie (Think Challah bread with fruit woven in the dough - AMAZING concept!). The quality was excellent and the pricing was great!
