You can hear amazing musicians most evenings, the outdoor space is lovely right across from The Pale too. Inside it's a little small but just right for a lounge and bar atmosphere. I had a grog, which was hot lemon, maybe a little ginger? maple syrup or honey and definitely rum! They serve hot tea as well. I was drawn in the other day by the amazing house band, The Balkanic Orchestra, I believe. See videos - they were awesome! I've heard other jazz trios and amazing live performances. They notably have many French craft beers (including a reasonable amount of IPA beers, usually hard to find in France). Prices are ~7-8€ for a pint of draft beer or for a ~35cL bottle - more expensive than a bar serving bad beers, but OK for the quality of the selection. The place itself is nice - hard rock music but not too loud, knowledgeable waiters but also very pleasant. You have beer ads as decoration and beer barrels as tables. Due to the prices, the client base excludes young thugs - you'll mostly find groups of college friends. I'd definitely be back if I go back to Chartres!

The academy has a vast selection of beers from all over the world and the opportunity to try something new makes every visit interesting. The atmosphere is very relaxed (perhaps a bit too relaxed for some with the unisex toilet with a urinal in plain sight). This bar seems like the place where everyone is welcome and everyone seems to be having a good time. I am not sure how many come here to meet new people, though. There is a seated outdoor area for smokers.

A chalkboard menu displayed the available appetizers, entrees and sides of the day. Some items were sold out and crossed off on the busy night we were there. I had the steak and fries. My steak was served quite rare and very buttery. That night through the next day I actually got quite stomach sick but I'm not sure it was food related. (Minus one star just in case!) The dining experience was so lovely under twinkly lights and open air. I came here another night when it was an open air dance party with a DJ. So much fun!! The beers were served in pitchers with different flavorings like lemon and orange. I was skeptical as I'm not a big sweet alcohol fan - but it refreshing and light. There is a large beer garden style area with umbrella covered tables and chairs for chatting and relaxing. The service at the restaurant wasn't the most pleasant, but the bar staff was very nice. The atmosphere and the view are certainly worth checking out. Happy to be introduced by our local friend to such a wonderful gathering place.
