Most people who enter are there by mistake: they were going to Bouillon Racine next door (which,…read moreBTW, is a total sell out, gone are the days when it was worth its salt). Anyway, I confirm that eating at Bouillon des Colonies is a big mistake.
It is supposed to offer dishes from all the former French colonies (so ranging from Morocco to Indonesia). But this is a very ambitious endeavor, which the Chef does not manage to pull off, not by a long shot. He is just throwing randomly a bunch of spices and aromatics and hopes for the best, but it turns out for the worst.
All dishes were bad bad bad.
On the plus side, the colonial decor is pretty good, nice Sauvignon blanc by the glass, and congenial service.
But they don't even know enough about wine to offer a selection that would pair with their spicy dishes (e.g. no Riesling or Gewurztraminer). So basically nobody here knows what he's doing. This is yet another tourist trap in a touristic part of the city. You've been warned.
