Very Austin, very chic vietnamese shop up North. I approve by and large. Atmosphere is very warm and welcoming, shop feels very modern and food tastes great. Portion sizes quite filling and prices are decent though a bit higher than other Viet places. I got the grilled pork bun and my friend the shaken beef bahn mi. Was a bit surprised when my bun came out that the fish sauce that comes with it is a bit spicy. As someone with lower spice tolerance, would have been nice to have a heads up since I was expecting normal fish sauce but it was ok. Refreshing crisp veggies, flavorful pork and cool noodles create a healthy and delectable dinner dish that's quite light. Pork is a real winner. Banh mi is soaking with juices but good thing the baguette holds up to it well. Juicy though not as tender as you might think it would be. Also bit pricey for a banh mi but if you're in the mood for shaken beef, go for it. read more

Really enjoyed Le Bleu! I came with a group for dinner on Wednesday night and there were plenty of tables open. I got the grilled pork banh mi and it was delicious! The bread was nicely toasted and the pork was seasoned perfectly. Other people at the table ordered the pho ga, tofu banh mi, curry and the shrimp vermicelli bowl. Wow, amazing. I passed by this place several times thinking it was some French place that must've been bad since none of my foodie friends talked about it. Finding out that it was a Vietnamese spot, I was dying to know how this would compare with my favorite Pho Thaison on Anderson Lane. The place is beautiful and the food was amazing. Had the pork banh mi, the shrimp spring rolls and the beef pho. The banh mi had really fresh bread and tasty ingredients hitting all the banh mi notes. The pho broth was on-point and it was nice that they put all the toppings into the bowl for me so I didn't have to fuss with the usual 'toppings plate'. I appreciated their lo-fi hip hop music, personable waitress, and more complete alcohol menu than other Vietnamese spots. My former fave, Pho Thaison is still incredible but I gotta admit, Le Bleu's love for their their food and ambiance made it a more complete package than Pho Thaison which cooks amazing food but lacks ambiance. read more

This review is for a delivery order. My favorite spot was closed and I ventured out into the wild to see if I could find a new favorite. Unfortunately, this is a one and done for me. Flavor and everything is mostly there, I just can't justify paying almost twice as much as a local Pho spot for smaller portions. Me and a friend needed a place to meet and have lunch so we decided to try this place. We got there when the doors open at 11:00. The place is small with a few outdoor picnic tables. We started with the brussel sprouts, yummy however my preference would have been slightly more on the Al dente side, fried egg rolls and chicken wings. I'd say that I truly enjoyed the appetizers. The chicken wings were nice and crunchy but may have been slightly well done and could have used more sauce so we requested some for dipping. We shared the chicken pho which was tasty but not the best I've had. The chili peppers were hot, but added a zing to the broth, I wouldn't recommend ingesting if your not for spicy. We also got the garlic butter shrimp bun bowl, yum. I think this was my favorite out of all that we tried. I'd go back for dinner to try what was on the menu, but unable to order until 5:00pm. And lastly, they had 1 blood orange creme brûlée so we asked them to reserve it for us until we finished the other courses. It was creamy and a subtle citrus flavor. This place has the best pho in town. The owner, Tebi, makes a great strong broth. You will immediately notice the difference. I can't go anywhere else in Austin after going here. Pho and bahn mi here is pretty decent. It's actually pretty good. The OG bahn mi is legit. However what's keeping this place from a 5 star rating is the price and how long it takes to get the food out. This is the only place where I've experienced waiting over 30 minutes for pho and a sandwich. Not sure if it was an off day but that was definitely not acceptable. I love appetizers. Le Bleu is my go-to spot for happiness. I always get the fried eggrolls and the Brussels sprouts to start and you should too. The fried eggrolls are small and served with lettuce. I wish there was a 3.5 option. The place was nice. Appetizers were good - especially the brussel sprouts. However, we weren't as impressed wiith the entrees. I got the bo luc lac. It was more of a salad with pieces of beef. Some of the beef was a little tough. There was too much dressing on the salad. The shrimp entree also came out as an entree. The pho was quite large but didn't have enough broth. And the brisket in the pho was super thick like bbq brisket. I've been to Le Bleu 2-3 times over the past year and always found the food to be exceptional. The veggie options are well thought out and have great flavor, which I find to be a problem at many other Austin establishments. Great pho, banh mi, and really cool that you can order tender coconut (to drink, and then they cut it open and give you the coconut meat to eat!). As a south Indian, having tender coconut in the US is definitely special and reminds me of home :) Staff is great and the restaurant is always clean and has nice vibes in general. Vietnamese in Texas? Heck yeah! Pulled in 8pm-ish on a weeknight. Ok first impression a bit sketch as the restaurant is located in a strip mall next to a vape shop. Must admit I was not totally comfortable leaving the car as there were several cars with blacked out windows and people just hanging out. Inside it is a very cool space. Clean and colorful. Empty on a Monday night- hope it hops on the weekends. Friendly counter service. Took my order and got to work. Ok fairly young staff and they were clearly kinda screwing around in the back but food prep did not take overly long. Spring rolls delicious fresh crunchy veggies and crisp shrimp. Peanut sauce ok not memorable but add a little rooster sauce to kick it up and was very good. Curry was reliably warm and satisfying. Just enough heat and sweet. Chicken was good but actually not really necessary as the vegetables were flavorful and fine. Nice mushroom flavor throughout. Only advice to chef - lose the processed carrots and go with fresh. Pork banh mi was off the hook. Soft bread and crunchy marinated carrots on top. If you are adverse to salt be aware that yes pork is pretty salty but wow really flavorful and good. Banh Mi was a pretty hefty sandwich packed with flavor. The cold cuts were a little thick for my taste, but were a good level of fattiness that went well with the vegetables. This place is not your average Vietnamese. It's Vietnamese crossed with fine dining and a creative menu. Most pho places have brisket pho, but the brisket is just mediocre in Texan standard. This place... the brisket in the Pho actually tastes like the best Texan briskets. The broth is also packed with flavor and umami. The pho comes with a lot of meat - thick slices of brisket, and a couple pieces of really good meatball. My only complaint: wish there was more broth! They have adapted very well to the current covid crisis. This is not an easy time for local restaurants. They offer takeout only. You order online, or on doordash and they bring your food outside. This review covers several experiences...probably 4-5 meals. Food is 4, but rounding up for freshness, consistency and service. I usually order the bun (noodle bowl). It is perfect. Huge portion, delicious sauce and tons of herbs...basil and mint and cilantro!!! That makes it so good. Whenever I try something new, I always wish I had the bowl. Other good options are the Pho soups. It's really hard to get good vegan broth, but they do better than most. It's rich, a little spicy and has a sweet spice, I think it's cardamom-- very unique. 5 huge pieces of tofu and enough to save for a second meal if not too hungry. Also Really good is the Vietnamese crepe, very flavorful and filling, but a little too much oil for my taste (greasy). I'm somewhat a health nut, so I loved all the veggies, but they use a little too much salt, a common mistake across Asian restaurants. Salt is ok, just too much. read more

Wow. Just wow. My first go to at a Vietnamese restaurant is typically a Pork with rice vermicelli. My test dish, so to speak. I've had a couple of great ones in Austin over the years, but Le Bleu dish was extraordinary. The pork was lean and well-glazed. The bowl was full of lettuce, bean sprouts, fresh mint and basil. The dish rang with the word fresh. The service was prompt and helpful, recommending the lemongrass margarita. Delicious and packing more of a spicy punch than the standard version. The atmosphere was nice for a strip center locale. Relaxing and clean serving excellent food, as well as mixed drinks. You typically don't find that in strip mall. read more

Would have been 5 stars except that the meat was *way* too salty. We both had the grilled pork bun bowl. It was a good portion, lots of pork meat, done well (except for the salt!). The bowl had ample portions of soft noodles (love soft noodles), walnuts, bean sprouts and unusual, but actually very good, spring mix instead of plain lettuce. I have to say that was a nice touch and a hint of mint leaves was nice and not overwhelming to the taste. We'd like to make this one of our regular places and we hope the salt overload was an accident and not in their usual recipe. We'll try again in a week or so and see. Absolutely superior Austin Vietnamese. This Austinite says thumbs up! * * * Okay, Vietnamese restaurant traditionalists, You are not getting an 18 page menu. There are not four pages of noodle soups to pick from. Tripe is nowhere to be found. No omelets, stir fries or che for dessert. This is a brick and mortar food truck, With the mini-menu you would expect from a food truck. There are six fillings for your banh mi. If you want the six fillings on noodles instead, You can have noodles instead. There are a handful of appetizers, and they have Vietnamese coffee. The End. * * * But If The Six Fillings Are Perfect, Who Cares? I had the Shaken Steak on Bun. I was shaken. I was also stirred. This was absolutely magnificent stir fried beef with a fine marinade and beautifully charred. It was far far better beef than you get in your grandmother's Vietnamese restaurant. Other fillings are to Cook's sensibilities rather than following tradition. There were cherry tomatoes in my Shaken Steak. Cherry tomatoes are about as Vietnamese as a Dean Martin record, But the tomatoes tasted absolutely grand. Greens were Yuppie Field Greens, Grown in Authentic Yuppie Fields. My inner Whole Fooder was pleased. For seasoning they passed a small plate of black Vietnamese alt-pepper, which you squeeze lime juice into, and dip your meat or noodles into the lime pepper. Grins, grins, grins, grins, grins, Grins, grins, grins, grins, grins, My vegetarian accompanist had tofu and seitan with the same fillings in a banh mi. She was just as happy as I was. * * * The decorating is halfway there. Cute baskets over the hanging lamps with ugly white dropped ceiling grid. Dramatic high art boldly painted walls With a wall-mount tv showing boxing. Banh mi and boxing don't go together. (Ok, maybe they do if its Thai boxing ... It would be easy to go breaking bad with Le Bleu, whenever I see Viet comfort food at hipster prices, I start thinking, "Pffft, this must be Austin." But as I was doing their $10 grilled pork vermicelli, I actually started thinking, "These are the freshest veggies I've ever had in a bún." Gotta love a pleasant surprise. And if you know the Saigon Le Vendeur food truck/container on East 7th, this is their new brick & mortar. A handful of apps, & pick your fancified protein for either bánh mì or bún. And that's about it. It appears they're working on a beer & wine license. And the trade-off for better parking & air-conditioning at this 183 & Burnet location is higher prices. But if you really insist, I'll disclose that yeah, it's probably worth it. Well okay then. And if you remember the former Dang Bahn Mi that was here, I'm mildly curious if you'll get the same déjà vu flashes I was having - are these the same tables & chairs? Ceiling decor? Bánh mì paper wrap? Does any of this matter in the long run? No. But is the food a whole lot better now, and worth this Northern journey here? I'd say yeah, let's go. First off, the location on the map is a little off. It's actually around the corner of Chili's, next to Dang Kitchen. But my review is based solely on the banh mi. I haven't tried their food truck. Maybe it's a lot better based on reviews, but this place was not great. Banh mi's are $8 with is on the pricer side, so I expected it to be pretty good. It took almost 20 minutes to get our two banh mi's and only one person ahead of us was waiting on his food. 20 minutes and the only thing that needs to be cooked is the meat is way too long... Bread was a little to hard. It scraped the inside of my mouth. I didn't enjoy the meat very much. It was very salty and only tasted like they used fish sauce and sugar. In fact, it was so salty that it overpowered everything else in the sandwich. Pickled veggies didn't taste pickled at all. I couldn't tell if there was mayo in it. I didn't taste it. The only pro I found was that they gave a generous portion of meat, but that didn't make it much better since the meat wasn't good. read more

We ordered the mango salad which was slimy and covered with nuoc cham that was way too sweet, almost syrupy. The beef pho used frozen brisket instead of fresh rare beef and had an awful broth. The broth for the chicken pho was watered down. The springs rolls were fresh but that is not hard to get right. I would definitely not recommend. read more
