Le Botaniste was hands down our favorite place to eat in Ghent. The food was super fresh, really healthy with perfect ingredients, and packed with flavor! My beautiful Bride was extra excited because of this sign (in the pic I posted) at the entrance. "Food is Medicine", has been a mantra of hers for the last few years. This place has such a cool and unique look inside and just feels good to be in. The people working there were very kind and super helpful, and everything we tried was delicious. This is a really cool and unique spot! Both GF and I had this place on our list being vegetarian/vegan leaning. I tried to bring my parents here for lunch however as soon as we walked through the door, the staff behind the counter didn't waste a moment of our time and informed us that there were no tables. We were disappointed but got around to doing some other shit and then by the time we were finished, figured we could go back to see if things had opened up. Fortunately, they had and we were able to snag a table easily. By this time, it was dangerously close to dinnertime and in the interest of having enough gastric space for dinner, we were light with this "snack". Both I and one of my dining companions ordered one of their soups. I don't recall much of the specifics other than the fact that it was green and delicious. Two of my other dining companions ordered the "veggie balls" which I had a chance to try, they were quite good. The veggie sushi was also ordered and received positive reviews. The inside/entrance area is really cool and they have a really impressive menu with tons of stuff. I saw some spreads/hummuses that I would have wanted to try if it weren't for the gastric space issue. I can see why it's hard to get a table! read more

We had such high hopes for this restaurant. Good concept and great price. I got (the menu) a half bowl with half soup. My partner got a full bowl. Nothing was hot nor was it cold. Such a weird and unappetizing temperature for your dinner. Everything needed salt. Nothing tasted great. We sadly left most of our dinner on the table and walked out. read more

Very good, friendly and cozy salad bar. Lovely atmosphere inside, a nice summer terrace and the most delicious salad bowls.

The people are really nice. They have take-out as well!! Don't forget that they only accept cards, no cash. The place was really cosy to sit in. It is not made for big groups. The wife found this restaurant online and with her being a veggie centric kind of person, we had to check it out. I don't discriminate and therefore eat anything and everything, so I'm all for some veggies and fresh/raw foods. I dare say that I may even be a part time vegan, emphasis on the part time. I think that we got there some time around lunch and it seemed like they were in the middle of a lunch crowd rush. The wife and I looked at the menu items for the day and eventually we were able to be served. I think that there were only 2 people working there and the service was a little chaotic. Most tables were occupied and it took us some time to figure out how he place was run. Basically you order at the counter and take a seat and once your food is ready, they bring it to your table. The wife ordered the Tibetan mama, which was a curry dish and I got a mushroom dish but I forgot the name of it. Every ingredient was perfectly prepared and the flavors really popped in every bite. This was probably the most memorable meal that we had while in Belgium. It definitely stood out for quality and flavor. If you are a vegan hipster, there will be at least one place for you to eat in Ghent. Of course I kid, actually Ghent is known for it's vegetarian culture. At least that's what our hotel travel guide told us. The wife and I would definitely return to Le Botaniste, in fact, we were both sad that we didn't get a second meal here before we we left Ghent. This spot has fabulous eco credentials: vegan and 99% organic (I wonder what the outstanding 1% is?!). I had a mishmash of the salads they have on offer. The most amazing thing ever? Fresh vegan food with surprising combination. They also have excellent wines and beers. It is not very cheap but it is worth the price.

This is our favorite vegan restaurant in Belgium. The food is amazing and you can pair it with some wonderful organic wine.

We had lunch at Le Botaniste today and even though the menu looked promising and the place itself is really nice the food was on the bland side. We ordered the tibetan mama bowl (hard to imagine any resemblance with any tibetan dishes or ingredients: coconut milk, kimchi (!), peanut butter sauce...) and the taijne (which was too soupy and the broth lacked depth while the scarce quinoa had sunk at the bottom of the bowl). Basically, if you're well traveled or have experienced authentic world food, you'll be let down by this Flemish "interpretation". On a positive note, the service (well, it's mostly self service) was friendly and the prices are okay. read more
