After having a good lunch we came here for a walk along the Saone. The whole way north and back to…read moreAuxonne would take 17 kilometers. But you can turn around and head back anytime. We also didn't do the whole way.
It starts in Auxonne at the Quai and small port. This section is a bit bland and gets really hot under the sun in summer. Soon though the paved section gives way to a natural track running along the pretty Saone. And from there it is indeed a very nice walk heading north. Many trees and bushes providing some shade at times. There aren't any major sights along the way. The way itself is the goal. At some spots you can picnic and jump into the river for a swim.
It's not a busy place. And that's good so. We really enjoyed our walk here with our Bulldog. Peaceful and relaxing. It's an easy walk, all flat. But it's a natural path, so it can get muddy at times and could be difficult for wheelchairs and strollers.
You can park in town, if you want to explore Auxonne a bit. But there's also a huge carpark at the port. Free of charge.
