The problem is the most important aspect, the food. We actually went here on a Saturday, the only possible choice being Chef's choice menu. I like Fixed surprise menu, I think it's a way for the chef to really show what it has in his hands, especially in restaurant where experimentation is fundamental. Probably the experiments didn't work that day. The appetizers were good but nothing exceptional (except for the mise en bouche, that salmon was one of the best pre appetizers I ever had in my life), the first main course was a real failure. I have nothing against tris, but I think in a tris every single mini dish should actually be part of a global design, everything should be a piece for the good result of the mosaic. But instead, the three flavors clashed together, if I had these three dishes one by one it would be ok, but here it just doesn't work. A pity. The dessert was probably the best single "real" dish (except for the above mentioned salmon, but that's not a real dish), kind of an easy dish (basically it was a peach over a biscuit with vanilla cream, of course not THAT easy), but I can't accept a chef's menu with these errors. With a little direction from our smartphone apps, we were very happy to find Au Temps Perdu (at the top of many stairs up from the river), and glad that they could accommodate our group on a Friday night. We are not native French speakers, and this is not a typical tourist restaurant. It seemed that the other patrons were locals, which, as tourists, we enjoyed. We figured out the menu with the translation help of the waiter and also with some language help and recommendations from a group of friendly, welcoming locals at a neighboring table. We really enjoyed the meal and experience. The cost was very reasonable for the delicious, hearty meal. They also did a good job providing a delicious off-menu meal for our vegetarian friends. The only negative was the cigarette smoke from others in the restaurant ... but alas, we are in France. We will return next time we visit Lyon.

I've never had a boudin before, I've had blood soup and that's a delicacy in the Philippines so I was really surprise that the French consumed such an exotic ingredient. I think that if you are a meat eater, this place is good - maybe even great. But if you are a…read morevegetarian, it's not worth the price. Here is my experience. First, I will preface this with the following story. Despite asking my French friend to make sure the restaurant knew there were two vegetarians in the party while making our reservation, he failed to do so. However, when we arrived and the chef was told, he said it was no problem as long as we ate eggs and mushrooms. We both agreed that we did and the show went on. The chef comes to your table to explain the day's menu to you. That's pretty cool. He even speaks English so he can explain it to you in multiple languages if you ask nicely. You select an appetizer, a main course, and a dessert or cheese plate. The total cost per person is 26€. They also have apéritifs, digestifs, and wine that will, of course, raise your tab considerably. My appetizer was the vegetable soup sans whatever cephalopod was normally added at the last minute before being served. (The chef said it was like squid but not exactly the same.) This was pretty boring. I think I make a better vegetable soup at home. Next came the main course, which for us vegetarians, consisted of a lightly scrambled egg with mushrooms and fresh herbs and all the sides that the other plates received: pureed sweet potato, a turnip stuffed with a tomato and cumin mixture and some chevre, roasted red peppers, scalloped potatoes, and two blinis. The least interesting part of the meal was definitely the egg mixture as it just tasted like egg with a few herbs and chunks of mushroom. The other components were all tasty, though I felt there was too much cumin in the turnip as it bled over to all the other parts of the dish. For dessert, I chose a mango cream option served on a thin sponge cake with a raspberry sauce. This was very light and not my favorite dessert. I didn't even finish it, which is rare as I love sweets. My husband and most of the table ordered the cheese plate and seemed quite happy with it however. Maybe that's the way to go at Le Tibouren. I may be willing to try this place again later, making sure the chef is aware of my dietary choices when we make the reservation. I'm not sure if it would make a difference or not but I would certainly give them the chance. If that happens, I'll be sure to update my review.
