Amo essa padaria/cafe! Croissant de nutella é o meu favorito, mas tudo deles é delicioso! Poderiam ter em mais lugares.

Well apparently everyone reviewed the bakery and I should have just eaten the bread. I instead went…read moreto the restaurant side and had lunch at the per kilo buffet. They were running out of the popular items like breaded chicken and you had to line up separately and request sliced steak from the grill if you wanted something hot other wise they had a selection of rice, pasta, vegetables, salads, salmon, bolhinhos, beans, and the typical offering at a per kilo place. As expected, the flavor was average. I also tried the in-house mate, not quite the same flavor as mate Leao. With big but heavy plates, a paltry serving can easily run R$30. The best part of it was the dessert which was separate. The chocolate mil folhas was rich and tasty. The pastry itself was still quite crispy and fresh, so I can see how the pastries, desserts and bakery items are lauded. The shop next to the restaurants which you're obligated to walk through had a good selection of beer, cheeses and other specialty items, all for a hefty price. I did try a lata of Rio cha verde with lychee (can of green tea with lychee) which was delicious. Next time I'll have to have breakfast as the other yelpers recommended.

We actually got good service here too. To exit the restaurant you have to go through the bread store, which has an amazing selecting of bread and candies.

The baristas are friendly and some speak english fluently, while others have a basic english proficiency - You will be able to communicate if you do not speak Portuguese. The owner who brought this unique cafe to life can often be found there, and the entire staff have a love for high quality coffee. Be aware, the actual location can be a bit hard to find. It is down a corridor/alley that has many small businesses along it which is only for pedestrians/for walking. The cafe consists of a long bar, with a few seats, and the baristas (usually anywhere from 2 - 3) working behind it. Upstairs there are a few small tables that are great for enjoying with a friend or getting a bit of work done. Outside, there are a few tables as well. The drinks are of good quality. One of the baristas told me about how most of Brazil's good quality coffee beans are exported to other countries, so they go through a special coffee bean roaster based out of Sao Paulo(? can't remember exactly) that is known for acquiring high quality beans. They have typical lattes, espresso, and cappuccinos, but also inquire if you are interested in being more adventurous, in some of their more unique drinks (ones created by the cafe). I tried a coconut water with espresso iced drink that was delicious and refreshing. Also they have hibiscus tea which is refreshing on a hot day. They have a number of pastries that are more specific to Brazil, and a small oven in which they warm things fresh. They also have a sourdough toast with butter that an expat recommended (sourdough is not common to Brazil and is an unique offering). Prices are reasonable, with drinks from R$5 - R$10. They do have Wifi. I would recommend this place for the ambiance and the quality of coffee.

Simply the best coffee in Rio. Nothing more needs to be said, but I'll say a few more things anyway…read more;P As you can see from the other reviews, you pay what you think is fair. There is a ton of information on the chalkboard, but basically they tell you what it costs in materials, and what it costs them to keep the store going (labor, rent, utility bills, etc.) They also tell you what their budget is for the month, and how much money they've taken in. Don't expect anything fancy. There isn't any place to sit down and get some work done. There is only one bench along the wall, and it's usually full of people. There are some condiment tables where you can add sugar, chocolate, cinnamon, etc. to your drinks. Definitely come here for your coffee if you are in Centro. It's in a kind of weird location - right at the top of the escalators if you enter the building on the side of the park.

There's two stands, one for espresso and another for cappuccino with a sink for washing dishes. One table offers either brown or white sugar containers and spoons for stirring your sugar. Another table has baskets for money, paying (as much or as little as you see fit) and counters so they have a loose estimate of how many people ordered espressos and cappuccinos. This open, exposed, honest business is so novel. There's a level of trust, that people will pay adequately for the services rendered, that's commendable and refreshing. Needless to say, the coffee is excellent and their reputation has grown to make it a busy and popular place. They even offer coffee for sale, should you wish to take some home with you.
