They also tend to show very good short film programs and have a nice space for fancy but packed cocktail parties. The last film by Raoul Ruiz, 'Mysteres de Lisbonne' was playing there recently, if it still is you should hurry up and watch it!

Be sure to purchase a VO or VOST film if you want to watch it in the original language, ie: English. Otherwise you'll end up with a VF audio track which would not be so enjoyable on an English film. The theater staff are friendly and speak English so feel free to ask them for help if you need anything. Otherwise the movie ticket kiosks are self service and accept all foreign credit cards without any issues. Food is also self-serve and you pay at the counter. They let you into the theater 10 minutes before the movie starts. There is no need to show up any earlier than this unless you want to sit around in the lobby. Also show up on the dot if you buy the ticket in advance, good luck if you don't speak French :).

There are special series of classics, openings of new films with the director present, animated films on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Special programs for young people. Even Tango lessons. Louxor was built in the 20s for silent films in the neo-Egyptian style. Some of this flair remains outside and in the large salle even after its relatively recent rebirth and refurbishment by the city of Paris. There is a tiny very cozy café whose balcony looks out on the quite beautiful Barbès elevated metro station with the Tati clothing store looming above it. Buy a pass for just over 50 Euros for 10 entrances. I live just up the street and go often. After the film find a simple Algerian restaurant in the neighborhood. Avoid the Brasserie Barbès. Visit and support all the independents in Paris!

Now the neighborhood is trendy, diverse, being gentrified (except for the Afro hair mafia who own the sidewalk). So they chop up the theater, turn it into tiny subterranean caves, dank, musty, with no ventilation. And they're artsy now, way pretentious - might have an art film you would want to watch from time to time. But not in the summer. It's so hot down there in those movie vaults, no ventilation, when you pack 80-90 warm bodies in there on a Saturday night it's unbearable. No Almovodar film is good enough to sit through while you're sweating through your T-shirt. Complain? The management is from the Twilight Zone: "It's not hot down there, it's cool - just like ze conconbre." They are full of shit. Liars. And snotty while they're at it.

It was good, but I'd say it wasn't crazy strong. My wife got the Miami Vice Negroni and we both thought it was meh. Being as you're in Montmartre, there are plenty of bars to visit. I'd definitely make Dirty Dick a spot to visit if you're doing a crawl.

I ordered the painkiller my first time around and it was perfection! The atmosphere of tiki music, Caribbean-inspired artwork and leis and tiki shields adorning the walls transported me to a beach in the Bahamas for a few minutes. We knew we had to come back our last night and did so! I ordered the Miami Vice Negroni and it was a complex drink. I still can't determine if I liked it or didn't. I got different sweet and bitter notes each sip. My husband got the extra grog strength drink and it was a hit! Do yourself a favor and come here! You won't regret the slight deviation from wine and champagne and enjoy the reprieve!
