When we arrived we were surprised by the long line and packed tables - clearly we weren't the first to discover such a gem (but the line moved quickly)! We had crispy fried spring rolls, bo luc lac (shaking beef), and beef pho (noodle soup) paired with two ice cold Singha beers. We finished off the meal with a delicious Vietnamese sesame cake and a Vietnamese iced coffee. At the end of our meal, the wonderful owner told us with pride that she had been in business with her husband running the restaurant for 21 years!!! She showed us her profile from a local Marseilles magazine and also told us that the restaurant was featured in a NYT travel article (https://www.nytimes.com/2019/10/08/travel/lyon-marseille.html). We sprung for the excellent chicken spring rolls (4 served on a bed of very fresh greens, w/ marinated carrots), chicken soup with vermicelli rice noodles (a large bowl w/ plenty of meat and noodles that fed two comfortably), frog legs in mild basil sauce (delicate and a nice change from the usual fried or sauteed ones served in the US), and chicken and vegetables over crispy noodles (a very ample portion for two with lots of chicken and vegetables). Each was excellent, in both presentation and taste. Total bill: E39,50. The bathrooms were immaculate, the patrons friendly and obviously enjoying their meals, and the staff courteous and efficient. The service took time but in a good way, that made for a relaxed, nicely paced meal that confirmed that each dish was prepared fresh and for us, not for the sake of someone in a boardroom far from the good smells of the authentic kitchen. After we pointed to the shrimp chips he then came back with two plastic bags filled with shrimp chips for us to take free of charge! He also gave us a jar filled with candy to take one from. After that I was struggling a bit to re-tie the plastic bags again and he came over and showed me how to. This was honestly the best service we have ever gotten along with the food and prices for it!
