You know the phrase 'don't judge a book by it's cover.' That was the phrase of the day when my…read morefiancé came to view the potential venue for our wedding. This place reminded me of that movie the Money Pit. The outside of the château is gorgeous and that is all. The interior is cold, old and dirty. Granted, I am borderline OCD when it comes to cleanliness, but here were flies, bees, spiders and dead mosquitos all along the window sills. In one of the bathrooms there was a spider the size of my palm. In another bathroom was an oversized tub matt (in the shower) that looked as though it was hiding some unpleasantries beneath it. The table cloths were soiled, there was staining from a leaky roof, spider webs overhead and bees buzzing a warning tune. I could not wait to leave this place! The host Jocelyn was very very friendly. She even came to collect us in Saint Just when we became lost en route to the château. I feel that she suspected my disappointment because one, I was completely silent and two, although I had a camera in my hand not a single photo did I take. Truly i was dismayed, disappointed and defeated. Even my brother in-law who is the farthest from having frou frou taste said, no, I think not! We cancelled our deposit then and there. Jocelyn was very graceful and said we would have our money back in full within the week. Another oddity I was not comfortable with was the unknown son who would potentially be staying in the château when my family would be there. Who is this person? Listen, truth be told the outside is lovely. If you want great photo's of a ceremony outside with reception elsewhere I say okay. For an all-in-one option there are many better choices in Bretagne!

So, how does one cap off this experience? With an amazing lunch, that's how! To clarify, your options are a bit limited, let's not forget this, but still, this place has it all! Good service, awesome ambiance, and bitchin' food! All three of us in our party were thoroughly satisfied! I had an individual pizza that was fantastic! My wife had oysters and some other fish dish and she loved it. My daughter had spaghetti and judging by the empty plate? She definitely loved hers too. It was great, really! Do yourself a solid and give 'em a go if you have the opportunity. Cheers!

You can also easily access the ramparts (more direct access to Mont St Michel less crowds) through the back door with your key card. And the staff are all so friendly, kind, and accommodating. :-) Restaurant buffet breakfast is GREAT! And you will not need to eat lunch - trust me! For their dinner restaurant, please take my advice and spring for the more expensive prix fix meal - it's SO worth it! One night I had the cheaper option but - kinda meh. :-( But the 2nd night I had lobster salad, amazing rack of lamb, and yummy peach Melba for dessert. I left sooo satisfied and soo full! :-) One note, please ask that they be upfront and transparent about exactly which days their morning deliveries will be. B/c the amount of LOUD banging and clanging of said deliveries on the cobblestone street that starts RIGHT outside your room window on some days (Wednesday for me) from 6:30am til 9am is unbelievable. The racket is literally akin to having the drum section of a marching band right outside. If they had warned me I would have tried to have been asleep by 10pm. There is no way to mitigate the loudness either - no white noise machines or fans. Bring ear plugs - but even those probably won't help. Just go to sleep early those nights before so your sightseeing days won't be impacted.
