When we arrived we were seated at a beautiful booth. The interior is gorgeous here. Our server was fantastic I wish I remembered his name! He suggested some great items. We started with their steak frites and I cannot rave more about it! First this plate is definitely shareable. Among myself, my husband and young toddler we destroyed this. My daughter was eating so much of this steak and so were we! It was sooo tender and we loved the gravy on top. The fries were amazing and when they were drenched in that gravy it was chefs kiss! What really brought it all the together was the salad paired with it- it was light and refreshing and the dressing was so good! For dessert our server suggested the chocolate custard so we got that and a berry handpie. We ate both and kept saying "oh my god" with each bite. My daughter especially loved the chocolate custard but my husband and I loved both equally! We immediately said after our meal how we have to come back. A friend and I met for brunch at le mazet recently and it was a pleasure, from start to finish. I had emailed the business in advance for clarification on the brunch menu and received a prompt, friendly response. I made a reservation for our visit and was seated promptly at a beautiful table near the front door. The entire dining area is gorgeous--so much attention to detail. Service throughout our meal was attentive and friendly. I had the boeuf bourguignon and it was so tender and seasoned perfectly. I also had the bread service, featuring sourdough from Small State Provisions--the perfect accompaniment to this hearty stew. I was looking for a good happy hour and this place does not disappoint! It's got food drinks and flavor all for a great price and portion size! Some things to note: Pay is credit card only, so make sure to bring one. Also the happy hour only is 2-5pm tuesday through friday so if you're out saturday through monday find somewhere else unless you want to pay full price. I honestly did not expect the amount of food I got, and I definitely could've gotten a lot less but each and every bite was delicious. I got 2 "demi-croques" which are essentially their elevated take on sandwiches. They were only $9 each and I honestly would have been satisfied with just one had I known what a great portion I would get. And it was a very nice touch that it came with a side of greens as well. Personally i preferred the croque monsieur (the one with ham) over the chicken one but to be able to sample both for a price less than the full sandwich was such a deal. Then, again because i thought it would be too little, i also got the "fries of death" which is their take on poutine. Absolutely delicious! The fries were well cooked but what really sets it apart is the delicious beef bourguignon that comes on top of it. Between that and the bechamel (which it could've had a little more of imo) they were the perfect side, and could really be a meal of their own. Four of us checked out Le Mazet today. What a cute spot in the Blue Back Area. Tastefully decorated with comfortable seating. The service was great our server a sweet young gentleman was especially helpful and attentive. We started off with sourdough bread and bowl of olives. These are a bit different as they are served warm with thinly sliced Parmesan on top. We also got the small cheese board. Unique findings are appreciated. In addition to some stellar local cheeses, there were pickles ( imagine a dill and bread n butter pickle mixed), pickled Curried cauliflower, fig jam, local honey, artisanal crackers and toasted baguette slices. Yum! For entrees we ordered: 1/2 rotisserie chicken. Came with fingerling potatoes, roasted carrots, arugula. 2 orders of Bourguignon Served in a crock pot. Small = two smallish bowls. We could have split a small with apps. Very rich, very flavorful, a bit too much fat on the meat but if trimmed it would have been stellar. Fyi does not come with crackers or bread. The fourth went for the brunch menu and it was amazing. Truffle eggs and steak. Zero gristle or fat, cut like butter and cooked as ordered. Was delicious. Side of truffle fries for the table. Dessert cuz... why not. It's a party! The ice cream Sando. Locally sourced ice cream in a flaky crusty croissant. Yum. Pumpkin spice creme brûlée. Very good Chocolate Custard. Drinks to Start We all kicked off with cocktails, and mine ended up being the crowd favorite. If you're looking for a unique, delicious sip, do yourself a favor and order the Cobra Fang. By round two, everyone at the table had one in hand. It's that good. Starters We began with the sourdough bread--although I firmly believe bread should be complimentary, I'll give them a pass here. It was fresh, tangy, and had that perfect crust. The harissa carrots were a standout. Slightly charred, beautifully seasoned, and served over a creamy yogurt sauce--absolutely divine. Then came the mushroom toast (a special, not on the regular menu). If you see it offered, order it. Two slices of sourdough topped with whipped ricotta and perfectly toasted, hearty mushrooms. This was the unanimous favorite of the night. I could've eaten this alone and left satisfied. Meh Moment We also shared the octopus, which was just okay. Slightly overcooked in my opinion, and while it wasn't bad, it didn't hold up compared to the other dishes. Would skip next time. Main Course The steak frites were stellar. Steak cooked to a perfect medium-rare, paired with crisp, perfectly salted fries (my kryptonite), and served with a velvety peppercorn sauce. A classic done incredibly well. Dessert We sampled a few: Strawberry rhubarb tart - Light, bright, with a graham cracker-style crust. Highly recommend. Coconut crème brûlée - Good, but personally I'm not a huge fan of coconut. Although I enjoyed a few bites, not my favorite. Coffee ice cream - Solid, but nothing extraordinary. If you're saving room for dessert, go with the tart. It stole the show. This hidden gem, is a French inspired restaurant with delicious food and drinks. It is served family style with small plates for appetizers and large platters for entrees. To start we ordered a red blend of medium bodied wine and 2 small plates. The pesto and tomato gnocchi that melted in your mouth, and the fresh cantaloupe with burrata and salted prosciutto, that hinted that "still summer feeling in September". We had beautiful bouquets of fresh flowers in front of us at the chefs counter and were able to watch the rotisserie chicken being roasted while we waited for our dinner. The inside is clean and lit well for a romantic night out-- for a small restaurant there was a good amount of bar seating as well. Service was alright for a busy weekday night, the server was very friendly with us but checked on us very little which was to be expected during dinner rush. We ordered the bone marrow for an appetizer and the duck sandwich for our mains, with a shared side of fries. The bone marrow was well seasoned and came with some char-grilled bread, it was enjoyable but not fully cooked through (don't know if this was intentional as I have never had french style before) so once you get to the middle of the bone, the marrow had the consistently of cold butter and was pink-white vs. the gelantinous, translucent cooked marrow I am used to. Though I probably would not order this dish again we still liked it for the most part. On the other hand, we LOVED the rich duck sandwiches and the perfectly balanced salad that comes with it. The fries were also great-- thin, crispy, and reminiscent of a very popular fast food chain's fries (in the best way). We made 8p.m. reservations for Le Mazet's New Year's Eve 4 course special menu. The restaurant is aesthetically pleasing and tastefully decorated. The setting is intimate while also feeling relaxed and welcoming. We were given complimentary champagne to start along with a potato skin with pate and cavier appetizer. Delicious. For our first course we had the Casear salad and the winter citrus salad. Both were colorful, fresh and full of wonderful flavors and textures. Next we had the French onion agnolotti and the duck tatarlette. The agnolotti dish was a rich taste sensation with gruyere, prosciutto and croutons. Absolutely decadent. The tartalette with cranberry and au jus was an amazing creation of moist and slightly sweet shredded duck atop a perfectly flaky pastry. For the main courses we chose the Beef Wellington and the lamb rack with potatoes pave and broccolini. The presentations of these dishes were outstanding. The lamb was perfectly cooked and so flavorful. The potatoes pave were delectable. The Beef Wellington was tender and also perfectly cooked and the au jus was luxuriously rich. Dessert was gingerbread creme brulee and chocolate crepes! Both were amazing. All portions of every dish were generous. It is obvious that these dishes were carefully and expertly created and prepared with complete focus and attention to every last detail. It was one of the best meals we have ever had and was the perfect way to ring in the new year. We also thoroughly enjoyed our after dinner digestifs, the Mandarin Napoleon, and the time the owner, Patrick, took to come to our table to discuss his choices and recommendations ( and samples) of both aperitifs and digestifs we might consider trying. We met a family who frequently dine at Le Mazet and they recommended some must try dishes from the regular menu. They had nothing but high praises. One of the best we can remember in some time. Just moist duck filled with flavor. Comes with a nice butter greens salad that isn't that bitter. A little sweet in fact. The mussels were huge and well sourced. Big portion too. And can we talk about frites (or fries)? These were just classic fries that were perfectly cooked and seasoned. We just kept nibbling and nibbling.... And the tartes. We tried both the fig jam and prosciutto one as well as the French onion one.
