They weren't too busy. The service was exceptional, well trained staff and multiple staff people waiting on our table. My companion had a set menu: starter, 2 main courses and dessert with wine pairings. I don't like eating so much at the typical French dinner time of 8 or 830pm. So I had one main dish and dessert. They brought us amuse bouche with our pre-dinner drinks, upstairs. And then once we took the gold elevator to the ground level there was another light dish before the meal. I had the veal with short rib, with artichokes and a lovely melange of fall vegetables. The veal and short rib were tender and bursting w flavor. My companion had both the lobster and sweetbread dishes. He commented that the sweetbread was excellent. Again we were presented with a pre dessert, a lovely glass piece with tiny bites of various pateries. Delightful. My dessert choice was far superior - napoleon. They cut it into 2 slices and I could only eat the first half. The creme was rich and light at the same time. The pastry also light layers, but still held the dish together.

Everything is textbook, Oeufs en Meurette, Boeuf Bourguignon, and the best Gougeres I've ever had. Wine list is predictably laden with local choices, including Chablis at reasonable prices. The location in the oldest part of Auxerre with a eyes on the River Yonne and the Abbey is absolutely lovely. Their is a abundant outdoor summer seating and it's one of the few spots open and hustling on a Sunday. Great for a beer or a casual meal.
