It's not Michelin star dining but you already know that going in and this place is very good for what it is. You'll find quite a few locals here and a lot of beer drinkers - beer is "hot" in France and especially on a very hot weekend with temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit there were more people enjoying a beer than wine. But the small wine list included some nice options including a nice Gobillard Blanc de Noirs and the food was very good. My salmon was (somewhat surprisingly) perfectly cooked and great - the haricot verts were a bit bland and overcooked but still healthier than frites. My wife's pizza had a typical French crust and with the standard ham & mushroom toppings was very tasty. I would generally give this place 4 stars and I'm definitely a fan. However, you have to take it for what it is - as far as Brasseries go this is one of the better places you'll find in small towns across France. And the main other review on here is complaining about the steak - let's be honest, if you order steak or sausage in France it's usually a bit more funky and just different than you may expect despite the common names. For the most part, the kitchen here does a pretty good job even on a hot day when it had to be sweltering in back. If you're looking for a casual outdoor meal in Epernay with good food & drink and generally friendly service, you may have found your place.

Our server was fantastic and made the evening even more enjoyable. The veal stew, oysters, and shrimp were all excellent, but the standout was the house-made butter, easily some of the best we've ever had. Everything was beautifully prepared and full of flavor. A memorable meal that we would absolutely recommend.

I took the waiter's recommendation for the pouilly fuisse and nibbled on an amuse bouche while perusing thé menu. Perfect - crisp and refreshing. I settled on the fixed price menu and was delighted with my selection. First course was lox with a beet salad. Perfectly cubed beets lightly dressed and nice pieces of salmon. For the main, I had pork with wild rice. The plate was hot and the portion was generous. Delicious. Dessert - a pistachio eclair. Wildly good. Sometimes the pastry can be slightly soggy - this one crackled under the fork. The filling was plentiful and the tartness of the fresh raspberries paired well. A delightful meal.

However, there is a lot of traffic on the road, so that did deter a bit from the dining atmosphere. It also took ages for our order to get taken, but when it did, things picked up quite a bit. We started with a great bottle of Rose champagne (as you do when you're in the region), and thoroughly enjoyed it. So much that we hunted down the winery later and bought a couple of bottles to take home. I decided to get the salmon three ways (tartare, smoked and grilled), while my partner got the beef three ways (tartare, smoked and grilled). They also gave us some great nibbles to start, including a bit of salmon pate. (You know, just in case I needed more salmon). The mains were great. All of my salmon was really tasty. I had a bite of my partner's tartare, and it was also fantastic. And there was quite a bit of texture which really made me like it quite a bit. All in all, lunch here was really good, and I would totally recommend it to anyone in the area!

She had what looked like a scallop pot pie, that was big and overflowing to the point I initially thought it was a main. I had frog legs and escargot in a casserole ramekin that was fortunately smaller, because it was so rich. Our third friend had a standard but still great french onion soup. For mains, we split the supreme chicken and braised beef - both with more generous offerings of meat than we were expecting. To finish, we had such a high quality tarte fine aux pommes with homemade ice cream. The quality of the ingredients and execution was so superb that we couldn't believe it was simply vanilla bean, apples, and butter. Although it felt almost sacrilegious to be in Epernay and not have Champagne, the cheap pichets of wine were too good to pass up. Coffees were also cheap and fortunately not burnt like in Paris. Everyone, from the manager, to our server, and the busser, was friendly and helpful - a nice change of pace for my friends who were tired of the Parisian gruffness. The restaurant is located on the picturesque square, just around the corner from the main avenue for Champagne. We got there at a pretty late hour for lunch, but they were still happy to serve. I highly recommend this as the lunch spot before you go tasting.

The style and decor of this place is a bit dated, but I'm not sure if it's old or purposely done that way. When we walked in, it was empty, but it filled up quickly. I think we were pretty much ahead of all the crowds by 30 minutes everywhere we went. You have the option of 4 or 5 courses, cheese course is included with either choice. I think every table we overheard asked about portion sizes and whether they should choose 4 or 5. 4 courses is plenty of food, but you should choose the 5 cause you're in Champagne, so why not. The sauce for my langoustines was a bit too fishy for my taste, but my fish and beef dishes were both really good. And tart for dessert was delicious. The French really know how to do pastries. They don't do wine parings, so we were recommended a bottle and it went very well with the food. We did learn that the champagne that is aged in oak goes better with food. Overall a very good dining experience.
