What a terrific evening. Great service and obtrusive and on top of every aspect of the meal. Business dinner at this spot for the first time. Beautiful staircase and lovely marble. Amazing high ceilings. Open air ambiance in a modern building. Marvel of architecture Had a nice ab to start with leeks pumpernickel and roe. Nice combo to start Selected the 3 course dinner. It was ample. The breads arrived and they were amazing. Rolls and bread with French butter My starter was the tuner chart Art. It was served two ways when were slices of tuna and the other was a tuna tartare is two crackers on either side. Great presentation likely salted super fresh tuna melted in your mouth. What a great way to start a dollop of mayo was an additional feature that provided some acidity. The fennel was also amazing and as a lover it worked well for me. I tried my colleague's pasta, and it was cooked perfectly. Al dente squid ink pasta. My second course was the pork which was Berkshire pork sliced up and cooked medium. Accompanied by a compliment of vegetables and the jus that was poured table side to accompany the entire dish. A perfect entrée that went to extremely well with the Bordeaux. The dessert for me was the cheese platter which consisted of five different cheeses and accompaniments. You can never go wrong with cheeses as a desert in a French restaurant and I feel I made the right choice. My colleague had the fig dish, which was also amazing. I highly recommend this place.

The interior of Le Pavillon is stunning, overlooking the outside area of Grand Central, with the hustle and bustle near the heart of the city. I have been to this restaurant numerous times over the past years, and have had a great experience each time. The food quality, drink selection, and service level are all up to par. Most recently, I had the restaurant week three course lunch. I appreciate that Le Pavillon provides dishes on their restaurant week menu which are not all on the main menu, showing off some different ingredients! I had the chicken consomme to start, which had an intense chicken flavor, and a hearty portion of vegetables. My short rib main dish was tender and gave a luscious beef flavor, and paired very well with the velvety potato. The citrus dessert offered a refreshing treat with its balance of tart and sweet flavors.

I had the three course lunch. I chose the onion tart, mushroom pasta, and pineapple Vacherin, and this came with a bread course. The house also added on the grilled avocado salad and chocolate hazelnut mousse desserts complimentary, which was a nice touch - especially because I ended up liking those items more than my own choices! Grilled avocado - simple, but quite nice. The einkorn grains were nutty and flavorful, and paired well with the creamy grilled avocado and dots of herbaceous sauce. Bread - three varieties, served with butter. There was a crusty sourdough, a roll stuffed with cheese, and a cracker with Mediterranean spices. The crackers especially made for a nice snack while waiting in between courses. Onion tart - a flaky crust, filled with a rich onion and cheese filling. There was a fresh green salad on the side which was pretty necessary to cut through the richness. It was good, but the rich flavor profile blends in with the other dishes. I'd recommend picking the avocado instead if given the choice, to add some variety. Mushroom pasta - I picked this since the server told me it was their signature dish. I didn't love it. To my taste, it was way too rich and savory, with not a lot else going on for it. It was beautifully presented, and the vegetables in the center did a bit to cut through everything, but I think the dish just wasn't well balanced. Vacherin - it's probably a mistake to try a pineapple dessert in the winter. This one kind of relies on the quality of the fruit because it's the centerpiece, and I think they grilled it to make up for the fact that it's not quite in season. The meringue is cloyingly sweet and needs the tartness of the sorbet to prevent it from being too overwhelming. Not my favorite. Hazelnut - significantly better. I did find it to be a tad on the sweet side, but the flavors were otherwise good. The chocolate mousse played nicely with the hazelnut and the cookie underneath, and the ribbons of chocolate over the whole thing made for an attractive presentation. There was also a little blueberry candy to finish the meal, a nice light and sweet note. The lunch came to $120 with tax and tip. I was a bit underwhelmed by the food, especially at this price point. The service was outstanding though, and it was really nice to get to try far more dishes than I had ordered.

Ambience, service and decor were wonderful. Wine was a little steep compared to France. But because the ceiling height is probably 3 floors high - truly high. It gives the place a nice sunshine for the plants to grow healthy. It has been 3 years since u was last here and the plants have thrived well. Thanks to lots of light from high ceiling glass windows. I enjoyed my seafood medley and the lobster spaghetti. They have good wines as well.

Le Pavillon is breathtakingly beautiful. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was elegant and peaceful with lots of greenery. The host and hostess were welcoming, and our waiter was fantastic, attentive without being intrusive. It was my birthday and throughout the evening, the staff would wish me a happy birthday. We were seated by the window, and the view was stunning. For dinner I had the Dover sole stuffed with real lobster chunks and it was absolutely delicious, and for dessert, the lemon cake was out of this world. Everything about this experience was exceptional. Highly recommend.

Le Pavillon is outstanding, every dish was thoughtful, beautifully executed, & absolutely delectable. The pacing was perfect; we never felt rushed and could truly enjoy each course. Drinks took a bit longer, but overall a stunning tasting menu experience. Definitely worth it!

Le Pavillon was an absolute delight! While visiting NY, my hubby and I came here for our anniversary celebration and it was a wonderful meal. We started off with pre-dinner cocktails, both of which were bright and refreshing. We then went with the 3-course dinner with wine pairings and everything was delicious. They feature "Land and Sea" entrees or "Terre et Mer." I got the 'Porc' entree while my husband got the 'Boeuf' or strip-loin. I don't typically go for pork at a French restaurant but I must say, Le Pavillon nailed this dish. Every bite was tender and moist. And their desserts were to die for! Especially the meringue dessert. They have struck the perfect balance between classically French cuisine with a modern twist. James provided great service and made our evening enjoyable. Such a beautiful restaurant, filled with lush plants and lots of natural light from the ceiling to floor windows and dreamy curtains. We had a wonderful time dining with them.

I came here for both lunch and dinner within a month. Both for business occasions. Lunch: there were quite a few tables available on a weekday, so don't think it's a must for reservations? Bread and butter: bagel-like bread, sliced sourdough (I think) and lavash which was crispy. Decent bread and the butter was good too, although not enough for our party. I'd think they'd give more if asked. They do a 2 or 3 lunch prie fixe where you can pick an appetizer and entree (and dessert). I thought both of my selections were just okay, given the price. The avocado in particular was underwhelming, and I'd pick it based on reviews. I was also left a little hungry despite the bread, which is a testament to the smaller portion size of the entree. Grilled avocado Sea bass Dinner: had reservations, but still quite a few tables available. Nice thing was that my counterpart was late, but I didn't get pressure from the staff about it. I got the muri white ferment mocktail, and it's pre-mixed and bottled which I didn't realize. It's sort of a light dessert wine, not sure that I liked it, but perhaps because I was in the mood for a refreshing crafted drink. I did get the white wine Bordeaux, which was fruity and lovely, and I'd get again. Bread options were slightly different and there was an olive bread that was particularly good. The spaghetti and the Dover sole were better dishes than my lunch. The spaghetti was a little too rich than I'd like but plenty of caviar but the sole was well paired with the artichoke. I got the chocolate cafe dessert which was probably bigger than the two prior dishes altogether - this was tasty too. However, I was left feeling hungry after I started walking back, perhaps not enough protein. I don't know that I'd come back here or would have to do a tasting menu. This is the first time I've left hungry twice from the same restaurant. And for that cardinal sin, I have to give it one star given the price point.

We were excited to try Le Pavillon but unfortunately our experience was pretty disappointing. The service was poor and honestly intrusive. From the moment I arrived I felt like I was being watched, almost as if the server assumed I was going to dine and dash. She hovered uncomfortably close the entire time and it made for an awkward meal. Food was hit or miss. The corn soup was the best part of the savory courses, but the lobster spaghetti came out ice cold and congealed. The short rib tasted off, almost like canned dog food, and the polenta was gritty and chunky instead of smooth -- more like gummy farro with rind, as if it had been sitting out. Our plates were burning hot which felt like they had been under the heat lamp way too long. My wife said her arctic char was just okay. Dessert was the highlight but not enough to redeem the rest of the meal. Overall, a strange and uncomfortable experience. Definitely not what I expected from a restaurant of this caliber.

We've been here once before but for their lunch menu so wanted to come back to try their dinner. We made a last minute reservation for a weekend dinner. On arrival we were greeted and brought upstairs where they took us to our table. Service was professional and in line with other similar restaurants. The three course prie fixe was great - I started with the avocado, followed by beef, before ending with nectarine dessert. Everything was delicious and beautifully plated. The steak was cooked exactly as requested as well. The restaurant itself is beautiful with very high ceilings and a lovely view of Grand Central and the Chrysler Building which is also lovely at night. Very nice experience overall- recommend them for both their lunch and dinner menu.

Really disappointed in the service and overall dining experience. It's slightly mind boggling they have a Michelin star. We had a reservation for three and did the three course tasting menu. Our dinner lasted almost four hours since our reservation time. It took an hour for dessert to arrive and another hour to close out. Our server was missing for most of dinner and we were always out of water. We also just didn't receive bread - we had to ask for it. The food was pretty good but not worth the price tag or terrible service.

We are fans of the chef behind this restaurant as we have visited his other restaurants and cafes. Scallops stood out to me although I wish we could eat that puff pastry. Ocotpus I think the texture could've been improved and it couldve been perhaps charred a bit. The foie gras was soo fatty and melted in your mouth. The duck was juicy and crispy. Lovely. Get the hazelnut dessert!

Le Pavillon has such a beautiful interior, it's mesmerizing for sure. Service was great and no flaws there. When it comes to the food, it was just average given their star and price point. Nothing at all stood out and the meal didn't justify the cost for me. The raw fish dish didn't feel that fresh. The bread serving all felt very stale, chewy, and hard. The butter was also still too cold to spread on the bread when they brought it out. Not what you'd expect of a place like this. Final comment was that the menu had way too many choices. I looked at the three course a la carte menu for a good 15 minutes before saying forget it, I'll just do the 6-course pre-selected tasting menu. Options are good at restaurants, but there is definitely an exhaustion point of too many options. It stresses the consumer out. Know what you're good at and stick to a smaller, tighter list of heavy hitters.

Ask the Community - Le Pavillon

Can me and my friend order something separately, for example, I want the chef tasting menu, but my friend just wants to order individual dishes (a la carte), would this be possible?

Yes. There is a 3 course dinner menu and a 6 course tasting menu. The menus do not denote a joint order requirement.

    Do they take solo reservations?

Yes. Just call to make one.

    Are they vegan friendly?

    Yes!

    Dress code: are jackets required?

Nope. When I was at the restaurant there were people in jackets but also in long sleeve and short sleeve shirts. I do not recall people in t-shirts and jeans.

I've heard "Lunch at The Modern" so many times, one thing I was absolutely going to do during this…read moretrip to NYC was lunch at The Modern, and I'm so glad I did. Located at MoMA, The Modern is a 2 Michelin star restaurant hosting both fine dining, showcasing Chef Thomas Allan's cuisine, and a more casual dining experience in The Bar Room. The restaurant is gorgeous and has a giant glass wall overlooking MoMA's Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden, a lovely view. There is an abridged tasting menu of 3 courses, but we opted for the full chef's menu cause we didn't want to miss their signature "eggs on eggs on eggs" and after the supplemental charge, the price was close enough. - Hiramasa and sugar snap peas/crispy ham and cheese--simple and delicious, with the hiramasa being light and fresh and the ham and cheese providing a deeply savory contrast - Chilled lobster, shiso, and green radish--the lobster was cold and sweet but as a personal preference, I don't really enjoy bitter flavors and the slice of lemon under the radish threw it off a bit - Eggs on eggs on eggs--words cannot adequately describe the unctuousness of this dish, it's like eating rich, buttery velvet on a crispy, fluffy log of brioche. As a bonus, they bring you an extra toast to mop up all the tasty bits - Pumpkin seed sourdough and cultured butter--okay I totally didn't know this was meant to be eaten with the next dish so given total lack of self control in the face of pillowy fresh bread and perhaps the smoothest butter on the planet, I may or may not have eaten it all before the trout showed up... they were nice enough to give us more :') - Sea trout with clams and saffron shellfish broth--the fish was cooked to literal perfection and the clam and saffron sauce enhanced everything even more. This fights with the chicken dish for spot #2 in my favorites of this meal - Heritage chicken, provençal asparagus, vin jaune--this reminds me of the stuffed chicken from Per Se and was cooked just as well. The vin jaune sauce was slightly nutty with an incredibly rich flavor and also went well with the bread - Lamb saddle, romanesco, and lemon poached dates--for some reason I thought the chicken was the final savory course and I did not pace myself at all and was so full by this point. The lamb was tender and the date was a wonderful bite though - Wild strawberries and cacao--I can't remember what was all in this but I loved the little wild strawberries as they were like delicious strawberry gummies - Dark chocolate cremeux, meyer lemon, and espresso--delicious with interesting flavors, I haven't had many lemon, chocolate, and coffee combinations - Mignardises of raspberry, lemon coconut, cherry cheesecake--only one I tried was the cherry cheesecake bonbon but my husband ate 'em all so they must've been good lol The MVP of this meal was the melon lemonade mocktail, made with honeydew, jasmine, and pandan. Might be the most perfect drink for me ever made because it was melony with a subtle floral note from the pandan and jasmine, and only lightly sweet and tart, everything I love. Sooooo good! Service was pretty good up until we wanted to pay, and for some reason it became really difficult to find someone to close us out. We waited almost 20 minutes between the mignardises and finally being able to pay, even actively looking around trying to flag someone down. Despite The Modern not being the most innovative of meals, it's easily one of my all time favorites. I definitely prefer food that's executed well over food that's pushing boundaries, and may be back any time I'm in town.

Hands down the best restaurant experience my wife and I have ever had…read more We wanted to treat ourselves for our anniversary, and I had recently watched their Bon Appétit behind-the-scenes video. Their entire operation seemed so incredibly focused, meticulous, and inspiring that we knew we had to try it. We started with the Iberico ham and the hiramasa tart, both incredible. Then came the chilled lobster, which was super fresh and refreshing, served with an amazing sauce that made me want to lick the plate clean. Every dish felt refined without being overly complicated. The service was extraordinary. You can immediately tell the front-of-house team is operating at an extremely high level and is aware of everything happening in the room at all times. At one point, my wife stepped away to use the restroom just as they were about to serve the first course. Without saying a word or making anything awkward, the staff simply looped around a couple of times until she returned. The moment she sat down, they resumed service seamlessly without missing a beat. That level of awareness and professionalism really stood out to us. Next came the rye bread, which was fresh and crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, paired with delicious butter. Then we had the sea bass with crab, which was phenomenal and one of my favorite dishes of the night. But the true star of the show for me was the lamb. My wife and I grill lamb racks often, and I genuinely had no idea this level of perfection existed. It was cooked flawlessly, and the sauce was absolutely incredible. If I was not in public, I probably would have been scraping the bone clean :) Big shoutout to one of the staff members, Stephanie, who completely made our night. We were telling her how excited we were to finally visit after watching the Bon Appétit video, and she casually asked if we wanted a tour of the kitchen after dinner. Honestly, I thought she was joking at first. Then she came back after dessert and reminded us. Even after paying the bill, I still thought maybe she was kidding, but then she walked over smiling and said, "Let's go." My wife and I were completely geeked out. Seeing the kitchen in person was surreal. It was exactly like the video: super meticulous, orders being called out and repeated in unison, everyone moving with total precision and purpose. You could see the Omega clock, the Michelin stars on the wall, and just the overall culture of excellence behind everything they do. We were honestly in awe. Thank you again, Stephanie. That experience meant so much to us. Every time we visit a fine dining restaurant for a special occasion, I always wonder whether it will truly live up to the hype. Some completely miss the mark. Some are very good. But none have delivered on every aspect the way The Modern did. This is officially our favorite restaurant in the world.

The place was packed! The dinner items are so intriguing. Why did I love it so much? Because it was like art, but also delicious. I can highly recommend the tableside butter service. A giant cart with a mountain of butter is rolled to your area. In the most entertaining way, butter is scooped and prepared on a marble slab then served to you and yours with many little accoutrements. It was way too much for two people, but we loved every bite. The service was so good, the food fun and photogenic, and I loved all of the bites. I can't wait to come back.

The steak frites, Brussels sprouts, and Moroccan fried chicken, and Mac and cheese were fantastic. I saw people raving about the spicy Caesar but personally didn't get it--I thought it was fine. I thought the escargot were a bit bland. Le grand croissant is an amazingly decadent giant croissant filled with Nutella and accompanied with jam, pistachio, honey sides etc. it was great, but seemed like it should've been more a dessert option rather than an appetizer as it was extremely sweet. We booked this out for Mother's Day maybe two weeks in advance and there were decent times in the early afternoon, but I checked closer to the day and it was all booked out.

They have a great happy hour running from open until 8 PM, including $6 beers and $8 cocktails, which is a great deal for the area. ordered the Bartleys Spritz (Aperol Spritz) and a Tequila Mule. We sat at the bar, which runs about half the length of the space, and there were also plenty of tables throughout. The back section of the bar feels a bit separated from the main entrance area. There are some TVs throughout, and everything inside seemed fairly new and well maintained. It was not very crowded on a Tuesday early evening, so service was quick and the staff was very friendly. We did not order food this time, but everything coming out of the kitchen looked and smelled great. Overall, I would definitely recommend this spot for happy hour drinks in the MoMA/Midtown West area.
