A small, lovely, and peaceful park to take a break...but don't step on the grass, or the security guard will holler at you!

Le petit Sablon is proof of less is more. Here is a very small, but immaculate garden complete with a bit of Belgian history. One thing to love about Belgium or Brussels is all the historical bits and pieces found around the city and with that the art as well. History bits-- The site was inaugurated in the late 19th century. At the center sits a beautiful monument and fountain. The figures enshrined there are a reminder of the past tyranny of the Spanish. Nothing like some blood to go along with your statues and history and pretty art, right? Of course. Either way, Le Petit Sablon provides some really nice neo-renaissance style statues for pigeons to chill on, lots of nice benches, and one of the most ornamental parks/gardens I've been to in awhile. Across the street is the Eglise Notre Dame au Sablon which tops it off for some more gothic architectural love.

A tranquil place to sit and relax across from Eglise Notre Dame du Sablon. The landscaping is well done, there are statues surrounding the park, and at the end is a beautiful water fountain. Benches are in front of the fountain to enjoy the scenery. It's a small park, but picturesque and relatively quiet.

A must visit in Brussels. Gorgeous park and interesting history.

It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site that's pedestrian only. We've hung out and strolled through in the early morning, afternoon, late evening, and even after dark well after midnight. Every two years in August, a floral carpet is installed in the middle of the centre. It's a ginormous arrangement of breathtaking flowers. A Christmas tree and lights go up every year. The neo-gothic architecture is outstanding from the kings's house to the town hall. Such an amazing piece of history that should be on everyone's sightseeing list.

It's worth visiting twice--once during the day to see the intricate details, and again at night when everything is beautifully lit up. While it is usually packed with people, if you come very early in the morning, you can enjoy the square almost entirely to yourself. The surrounding area is full of shops and food, though it is very touristy, so keep that in mind. If you're lucky enough to visit during the holidays, the festive decorations are spectacular!
