LOVE. We came for our anniv - in the Time Before - and were all set to become Le Piano regulars when lockdown started. I see that they're open for delivery now, and have converted their amazing space to a mask factory, producing free masks to distribute to the community. They deserve support for their efforts now and your patronage as soon as the doors open and the ivories start tinkling again. One more thing, I notice another review mentioned there was an item on their check that they didn't order. Yeah, check your bill. Don't be fooled by the atmosphere. Music is the only reason to go to this place. The food portions are ridiculously small, mediocre, and waaaaay , I mean WAAAAY ove- priced. The drinks are ridiculously priced, as well. We made reservations in advance but they seated us at a table with a wheel that made the table move, and with two other couples . We sat for 90 minutes on chairs that they must have purchased at Target. Incredibly uncomfortable. If that wasn't bad enough, they only had one waiter for over 100 people on a Saturday night. Seriously!!!! The owner is a narcissistic jerk who played drums with the band and tried to sing. His singing was off-tune and was TERRIBLE. As a jazz drummer myself, I can tell. you this guy has zero chops! In addition to his lack of musical talent, he got up to talk for 15 minutes about his life story (as if we care), and he got mad at the audience and the waiter for not giving him undivided attention. We are jazz fans having traveled the world to hear jazz.. As much as we enjoyed the group that was there, we will never , I mean NEVER go back as long as this is owned by the same person. Nice decor, good music, but never never never again! I'd give it less than one star if I could. I hope the owner reads this. I don't think I've ever walked out of a restaurant as angry as I was after this terrible experience. I made my parents a reservation for their anniversary. When they went in nobody acknowledged them, asked them any questions, made any eye contact with them or seated them. They were there waiting to be seated or acknowledged for 20 minute. This made them feel very ignored and unimportant. Personally, when I went, I also felt very ignored and like I was not good enough to be there. I also had a reservation and was not even seated at a table, you have to get there early for one of those? Dare I say pretentious. I have no choice but to absolutely stan Le Piano. My friend and I stopped in on Tuesday because she had heard about Le Piano from a jazz night at City Winery and I was excited to go because it was something new! Anyway, the bar is on the Glenwood strip in Rogers Park which is conveniently at the Morse redline stop. On Tuesdays, it's cabaret night (7:30-10) which is essentially jazz karaoke and as Chad, the owner said: "it gets pretty wild!" As we arrived, Chad came over and shook our hands and welcomed us and immediately I knew I was in for a good night. The inside of the bar is dark and sexy and very pretty and feels like you're back in time. Perfect for a date night. The decor is divine and each table has a candle resting on a record. It's just the coolest aesthetic and you have to see it understand. Once seated we ordered French 77s and I also ordered a white wine. Both were exquisite and fairly priced. Wish we would have ordered food as well (looked great), but I had eaten right before. The entire cabaret show was phenomenal and really involved the audience. Staff was great and checked in on us throughout the night. The effect that jazz music can have on the soul is indescribable. The effect that someone singing from their heart can have is something special and I found that here. It's right in the neighborhood for me and I'll definitely be back. :) read more

This place is awesome! The atmosphere is cool and cozy. The staff is attentive and warm. Music was top notch the night we went and the food was enjoyable though small (expect European size portions for sure -- which was fine by me). It(the food)'s not the focus of the place, I get it. Cocktails were tasty. It was worth the drive up from the city for us and we'll probably be back. Docking 1 star because I feel like the cover charge should be more clear. We made a reservation online, got a confirmation email, called to confirm, were sat, got a meal, and enjoyed the whole night and the only reason I knew to expect the charge was because of another Yelp review. To clarify, happy to pay but I just wish they made it more apparent. To quote my boyfriend - "If music is the only thing you care about, this is a 5 star place. Met up with a couple of friends at Le Piano on Thursday and we had such an incredible time. It was a beautiful night and they had moved the entire club (band, tables, chairs, candles, etc.) out onto the closed-off-to-vehicles cobblestone street. Some fantastic jazz performances, delicious food, and fun drinks. The cocktail menu is fanciful and sounds wonderful, but I'm not much of a cocktail drinker so stuck with some good rye on the rocks. They also have an extensive wine menu. The food -- small plates of absolute deliciousness. The artichoke fritters with béarnaise are addictive and the golden frites (fries) with truffle oil and grated parmesan take potatoes to a new level. I had the petite lamb chops with pomegranate redux. While medium rare, there was a deep char that perfectly complemented the flavor of the rich gravy. So good. I also had a bite of the chicken with tarragon wine sauce -- extremely tender and flavorful. Later on in the evening, they moved back inside, which has a nice warm intimate club feeling. read more

I went for the music venue. Reserved a table for two on a friday night at 730 pm. When we got there it wasnt crowded at all. We were allowed to sit anywhere of our choosing. The place was about 1/3 full at its busiest, which was fine since i dont like a over crowded venue. The ambiance was amazing! The jazz band consisting of trumpet, piano, bass and drums was great! But the food was expensive! $12 for two tiny beignets. $12 for tiny bit of icecream. $18 for tiny cut of steak with several fries. $22 for two tiny frenched lamb chops with a few fries. Food was ok. But with a couple drinks each, we got hit with a bill that was $200 with tip. In hindsight, i would go back for the music but will not be ordering any food. Parking was very hard to find. read more

We spent a great evening listening to jazz music last night at Le Piano--a true hidden gem. The space is lovely (my wife went on and on about the charm--dimly lit, lots of candles, assortment of banquettes and tables) and packed fairly tightly. The staff was super friendly, and we made some new friends at the community table at which we were seated. Not super easy to talk to your companions but that's not why you're there. The food was fine--some light bites (Brussels sprouts, potato frites, etc.) were fine but not exceptional. But the music was exceptional and the cover charge ($15) was well worth it. Parking is on street (you may have to drive around). Reservations strongly advised! We are already planning to return. read more

First of all don't come for the food or the beer. I came on Saturday night, to hear some real live jazz. The jazz music was outstanding. the Guest musician was great. I got to hear them play "grazing in the grass" and also heard one fine guest pianist. Also got to hear "carol of the bells" on the piano as a surprise during the break. However, the so called "ribeye" that I ordered was served up on a little salad plate, and was as tough as shoe leather. Everyone in my party ordered the same thing, and everyone was chewing hardily on it. The steak was good, but was well overcooked. As for the beer, there is only 1 kind of beer here. Some kind of amber ale. I would give it 3 stars for the limited beer selection and the tough steaks. read more

My husband and I came here at about 9 p.m. on a Saturday night. It was busy when we arrived, and we were lucky to get seats at the bar. Some seats in this place seem better than others--you probably don't want to be behind the musicians or directly in front of them. We saw some people leave from both areas. They have a nice wine list, though it would be nice if they had a cocktail list and some more beer options. I enjoyed my glass of white wine. The music and ambiance was very nice. The room is cozy and nicely decorated. It definitely seems like a lovely place to cozy up with friends and loved ones on a cold Chicago night and enjoy some jazz. I am very glad Rogers Park has attracted a spot like this, it was sorely needed. read more

If you go be careful when you get your food check, I gave the server a cash tip and found out they added another tip to the receipt after I left. This place is a hidden gem! Live music every night with amazingly talented individuals. Tastefully decorated in a way that makes you feel nostalgic. Cozy vibes, low lights, perfect for a date night. I never leave disappointed. The service is great and everyone is so friendly, especially the owner Chad. They make you feel like you are part of the family. The food was great especially the mussels and the seasonal dessert I had was to die for. I ordered 4 of the Apple cider donuts which had apples that were locally grown. They were served warm and the donut along with the apples were glazed in an apple cider cinnamon glaze. They were big donuts too! The apples were so sweet! I still dream of these donuts and feel like there is no donut that can top it. Chad also plays piano. If you ask nicely he might play something for you! read more

Truly one of the most amazing music venues I have ever been to in Chicago. A wonderful cast of characters including the indomitable owner Chaz who is just a wonderful, entertaining host and musician himself. Now you wouldn't think that a place that has live jazz music and an exciting party atmosphere would also have such wonderful but food but they do indeed. Nice venue and location, super nice staff and very enjoyable music and entertainment, although a performer this night hushed everyone like it was a middle school lecture and that was awkward. Food tasted great however portions are on the smaller side for the price, and the cocktails need some big help for they unfortunately had little taste and just not worth the price. read more

After a family wedding in Skokie, we were looking for something to fill our evening. I googled jazz clubs by me and got several suggestions. It fit the bill for our group of five. It is a very interesting interior with instruments and such hanging all over. Our drinks were good and so was the food that was ordered. The best was the music. Wonderful sax, piano, bass, drums and conga group. We stayed for 2 sets and lived every minute. The only downside is parking. We got lucky and found street parking after circling for a while. Next time I would look into taking the train. We did not have time to spend looking at all the interesting things that were outside in the small street. read more

It was surreal being in this space. I used to play shows for Theo Ubique when they used this space. So, seeing it transformed from a bit of a dive to a classy yet not uptight joint was a trip. I loved the decor and vibe. I went on a Thursday night, around 7:30-8pm for drinks on a date. Solo piano occasionally joined by the owner/manager on percussion was a nice touch-just loud enough to keep your attention, but not so loud that you can't hold a conversation. The pianist was great and seemed to play exactly what the room needed (accessible standards). We sat in the back corner. Seating was comfy. The owner/manager checked in on us a few times-he was friendly. Drinks (cocktails) were spot on in price and flavor. The menu looked very French-we didn't eat dinner here, but the menu looked nice. I'll def be back, at least for drinks. read more

Glenwood Ave in Rogers park is one of my favorite corridors, there's the red line right there and beautiful graffiti all down a cobblestone street. Le Piano is the classier older sister of The Glenwood, perhaps she's married to the hipster heaven Rogers Park Social. If you have a date night, here's your impressive first date. The live jazz is lovely, intimate, and transports you to another time ($15 cover and worth it). The lamb chops were divine and the drinks equally as yummy. A few things on the menu were unavailable, but during covid times who can blame them? At the end of the menu you'll find "Happy Endings". We though it was a dessert, but it's not. Our happy ending was that we got to lie down under the grand piano and the owner played an entrancing tune while I watched the snow come down outside. Magical! I have three words to describe Le Piano: Delightful, Delightful, Delightful! Chad runs what is essentially a Salon, in the true sense of the word. There is an indescribable relaxed intimacy about the place. Beautiful atmosphere. The night we visited, the jazz was excellent (it was open mike night, but there was nothing amateur about it). We had the added delight of enjoying James' tap/jazz dancing as part of jazz ensemble. The small plates were well executed (definitely order the Brussels sprouts!). The lamb chops and ribeye were delicious. Small portions, but adequate. I have read a few people complain about the cover charge, or the Salaire d'Artiste. Listen, no one gets rich running this type of place. Certainly not the musicians. Le Piano is a unique, intimate neighborhood gem. Chad personally tries to greet each patron. The staff is very attentive and the service is excellent. If we want to continue to have these places around, we have got to support them. read more

The comments below about a $15 charge on the bill per person as "Salieire D'Artistre" is valid. This was unexpected, and I wish they'd advertise that better. I previously worked here, and it was warming at first but throughout time, you get to see the true character of the owner. The verbal abuse and mistreatment of the previous busboy, (who was fired, I believe) of always calling out his 'bad' behavior, telling him he wasn't good as job, he couldn't do certain things that other employees did. It was viewed as if he was Chad's verbal punching bag. The red flags. In addition to the verbal abuse, Chad doesn't step in when staff has shortage, what I mean by this is that he would prefer to smoke, drink and eat with customers, then help out. That was the most frustrating thing as well receiving your paycheck, and missing tips for working on big events. They would say, "you're getting a tipped for this. It'll be added to your check" It wasn't. I waited to see if they remembered or meant we would get our tips for the night, they never did. Don't get me wrong the place is stunning, incredible live musical performances, but it's not a good place to work. read more

I cannot recommend this place enough! The drinks were well priced and delicious (especially the Sazerac), and the food was amazing! This isn't really a whole dinner place, so if you come looking for huge plates you might be slightly disappointed. We got the bow tie pasta, the lamb chops, and the chicken. All three were a perfect amount of food and absolutely to die for. The staff is attentive and answered every question I had. The music is great, we came in for a night of Brazilian jazz (complete with owner on bongos!). In addition, ask for a happy ending! It's only 10$ and an absolutely wonderful experience. I won't spoil it, but it's very worth the few minutes it takes. The owner is wonderful and seems like he made his dream come true with this place, highly recommend a (weekly) visit! read more
