    Fireplace near outdoor seats

I thought a music bar near a train station would be a bad idea, the constant roar of trains, but I admit I didn't hear hardly any from inside. It was a warm night but we sat inside. The Cosmo martini to start was DEElicious! We were seated at a long table, but there were just 2 of us. Service was efficient and friendly, a little slow. We got food before drinks, but it was fine. Despite the name, there were a couple of instruments hanging up as decorations, like a trumpet and trombone. The bacon wrapped shrimp was good, but usually EACH shrimp has bacon on it, but this was a skewer with bacon wrapped around it. The potatoes on the side were good though. The music was nice and mellow, and the bathrooms were clean and clever, with pictures of French scenes. We saw the owner, but he did not play this time. The 'tip jar' for musicians in the middle of the room, suspended from the ceiling, was cleverly done. We shared a dessert of melt in the mouth chocolate mousse cake or something; it was awesome, very worth it, but the bar bill was quite high. With admission and drinks, I'd go AFTER dinner or a big lunch, and stick with wine if I'm on a budget.

Vibes were immaculate!! The band that plays on Sunday is absolutely spectacular. There's a $15 cover on the weekends I believe and then the drinks are reasonably priced, would recommend coming through. It's such an intimate & well designed venue where you know that a lot of passion and care has been put into making this space happen. If you're a jazz lover you'll loveee this place Plus try the happy ending n you won't be disappointed !!!

    Saturday night a Jazz music

Le Piano is a romantic, intimate, and fun neighborhood gem - with friendly service, great live music, delicious small plates, and cocktails / drinks. It has a lovely indoor jazz club and beautiful outdoor area in the green-covered, artsy alley of Glenwood Alfresco near the CTA train - a mostly quiet pedestrian street that manages to feel miles away from the city and gives European vibes. Came for a date night on a Saturday in mid-June to sit al fresco and enjoy the live music and a bottle of wine: It was amazing. Recommend arriving a bit early as it fills up with reservations and street parking, while available, can be hit or miss (we were lucky!). A bit pricey, but great quality food and drinks. The Mixed Green Salad and Baguette with infused butters were perfect sharables between the two of us - highly recommend. The highlight of our evening? The Lemon Cilantro Rosemary and Ginger Ice Cream, as well as the French 75 cocktail. Phenomenal! Absolutely recommend the cocktails and desserts. Note that there are cover fees on weekends to support the talented performers. Le Piano is great for dates and classy friend hang outs.

Absolutely wonderful experience at this quaint jazz bar. We reserved a table on a Friday night to celebrate a birthday. The bar is tucked away with a view of a lush alley, you would have no idea you were right under the L with the large windows and the overall vibe of the interior. The music was fantastic, a 4-piece band that had a wide variety of upbeat and lively songs. The owner was on the drums, and he took the time to introduce the band after each solo, and thanked everyone on the mic part way through their set. For food, we ordered a few drinks, the bread basket, the mushroom pasta, and the lamb chops. Each dish was 'good' in it's own way, but really you come for the experience. We would probably each try a new dish next time. I have recommended it to 4 people since joining them on 5/24. Loved it!

Beautiful bar/performance space facing a large glass window and an eccentrically decorated porch, with great drinks, pleasant staff, and lovely accoustics for small groups (I saw a piano/singer performance). It's right off the Morse Red line and you see the El come and go in the window. I will have to come back more often, a little gem of a place in Chicago! They have food but it was not offered at the time I went.

I was on the app Fever, and they had an Immersive Jazz & Dinner for 2. When I tell y'all we had a ball! We got a 3 course meal & 2 drinks and everything was delicious! I ordered the lamb chops, the Parmesan crusted potatoes and it came with the Carmel chocolate Sunday. The music was phenomenal and at the end the owner asked us to lay under the piano and he played us a song. An experience to remember, everyone was so cool and I can't wait to go back!

If you are looking for a wonderful musical find in the Rogers Park area, this is it. Top notch ambiance, phenomenal live jazz music and delicious unique drinks and food. We went with reservations at 7pm. Reservations are extremely highly recommended and are easy and free to make on their website. Seating is by the hostess' discretion and based on what's currently open. We asked but no special seating requests are taken. That's fair but I think that they could easily tag certain upfront seats or the piano seating as a $20 upcharge and no one would flinch. We were immediately greeting by the bartender and the friendly hostess met us quickly after to seat us. Our waiter was also pleasant and took our drink orders and returned intermittently for our appetizer, main and dessert order. We had the bread app, ribeye steak, penne mushroom pasta and a beignet dessert. We had a pomegranate cosmopolitan and a corpse drink. The drinks were unique and strong. $15 each. I feel worth it for the city. Drink 'em. The food wasn't the best in the city but you're not here for a Gibsons Steak! What it is, is solidly simple delicious food choices with a GREAT price tag. The ribeye was seasoned perfectly and the penne pasta was tasty - the sauce could have been slightly thicker and the mushrooms a bit bigger in slice size and more numerous. But still a good choice if you like mushroom based pasta. The beignets were warm, soft and delicious. A perfect choice to end your meal. The indescribable, terrific jazz music was the best part of the night. It was like delicious food-for-the-ears. Go here. Impress your friend or loved one with a fantastic experience.

Table 12 for the win!…read more I was in Rosemont for a work trip, which usually means dull dinners, early nights and generally a bit Puritanical. Since we were in Chicago, I took my boss and coworker to the Tiki TIki next door for a shot of Malort. It's Chicago, after all. 1 shot became 2, 2 became 4, and before I knew it, the bartender was ushering us through the swinging door into Pete's once they opened. Fun fact: we were the first ones in and also shut the bar down. From the moment the pianists started, it was clear this place was on point. Even them doing introductions and giving the ground rules was done musically. All four singers were wicked talented, and rotated in and out through the night. On occasion, they came together and became a full on quartet playing instruments other than pianos. Vocals were amazing, the energy in the place was such that I didn't even realize the time until they did last call and the lights came up. The layout of Pete's lends itself to entertainment. Regardless of what table you are at, you have a great view of the stage and no one has their back to the performance. The atmosphere is covered with fun and bright signs all over and despite being a larger place, it feels intimate when your song is played and everyone sings along. The table service was also great. She never hovered, but we also never lacked a drink. The next best thing about this place, after the performers, is the level of crowd interaction. There were folks singing along to every single song, and at times it was the whole bar. A couple of times during the night, folks were running around the bar riding a horse's head (or maybe a unicorn) on a stick. Somehow, it all just made sense. Pete's turned what could have been another boring end of a work trip sitting in the hotel into a night full of laughs, shots, and having a hoarse voice for days.

How anyone could rank this amazing preserved piece of Chicago history below 4 or 5 stars is beyond…read moreme. Seriously ... this was the best thing I did while visiting Chicago. It took 20 minutes and $25 each way to Uber there from my hotel in downtown Chicago, as it is 6 miles away. However, totally worth it. Yes ... it's cash only. That's a bit of a bummer. I'd rather pay a surcharge than trust the sketchy little ATM in the bar. Yes ... It's 'lived in'. I wouldn't call it dirty as much as it is worn. To me, this was part of the charm. It's been around since the 1920's and probably looks very similar to how it did in the 1940's. Dark, dingy and fun. Most of the mafia in Chicago didn't hang out downtown. This area is where their HQ was and where most of them congregated in the same way NY's mafia hung out in Bensonhurst instead of Manhattan. The area has a lot of vintage architecture and history, despite being a little more run down and 'authentic' than the more touristy downtown. I went on a Friday around 3:30 p.m. Already, the back seating area was full of people, however there were a few bar seats left in the front. An hour later, it was packed. They start charging a $20 (cash only) cover at 7 p.m. for the live band. Before that was a jazz organist, who was pretty good and a master at working the crowd. They have draft beer ($6 - $10) ... bottled beer ... and booze. My Old Fashioned was made with muddled orange and cherries and only cost $12. A gin and tonic was $9. It can be tough to get a drink because the one bartender works the entire bar. Nice guy though. Don't come here expecting anything other than a dive bar ... there is nothing modern about this place. However, it has one of the best vintage vibes I've honestly ever encountered in a jazz bar. Don't miss out on seeing this bar and hearing some music, even if it means having to Uber or drive. It will be worth the trip. There aren't many places around like this anymore.

Ever since I came back from a trip to NOLA a couple years ago (and subsequently moved to Chicago),…read moreI've been looking for a place like Green Mill. A spot where someone could walk in, maybe order a drink, and listen to some music without first opening Ticketmaster and shelling out half your paycheck to their junk fees. Some of their performances are free, and some have a reasonable cover of $10-20. There are also performances every night, sometimes even in the afternoon. The vibe inside is dimly lit and very old-timey. Even the bathroom had a bar of soap! I haven't seen a bar outside of a private residence! For sure, the vibe fits the history. Green Mill used to be a spot visited by Big Al himself. Yes, there are still connected tunnels used by the mob, no, you cannot see them. In terms of the bar, do not expect anything special. Their menu is limited to the beers, wines, and champagnes they have. They have spirits, but no cocktail menu - while they *might* be able to mix something simple like a Manhattan, be prepared for basic drinks along the lines of a gin & tonic. The service was fine, but a little abrupt. Not the best welcoming or inviting, but gruff and surly in a way that is probably cute to regulars, but less so to newcomers like myself. Final verdict: Green Mill is a place one comes for the music and the vibe and to get away from life for a little bit. It appears to be a third place for many regulars. It's worth giving a shot, as long as one is ready for an experience that's a little rough around the edges, arguably by design.
