The lady there apologized but the got screamed by the groomer(old latino man), "no i didnt do it" "no, thats normal to have little cuts" If that's their normal standards, I will be keeping my dog far far away. When she moved into my place in Manhattan, we couldn't find a comparable groomer. So my wife continued taking Bailey back to Forest Hills for grooming. Now that we live in New Jersey, we find ourselves planning trips back to New York around when Bailey needs a haircut. Le Pitou has really friendly staff who are great with our dog, and who do a great job for a reasonable price. Additionally, it's much easier to get an appointment on short notice than at other places that we have tried closer to home. I highly recommend Le Pitou, especially to anyone who lives a little closer than me. read more

On June 29, 2013, I took my dog for grooming and it was the worse experience I've ever had at any pet grooming establishment. It was my first and last time at Le Pitou, recommended by a friend. Right after my dog was groomed and Elizabeth (the groomer) brought my dog out, the owner spoke to her in Spanish and when I asked her what was wrong, she said nothing. I didn't examine my dog as closely as I should have because I trusted the owner and believed her when she said she only has the best groomers. That's the last time I'll trust anyone who claims to have the best groomers! After I got home, I noticed my dog was missing a significant and noticeable chunk of his left eyebrow and he had a redness below his left eyebrow. The redness later looked like he was badly scratched by the electric razor the groomer used. Aside from that, she messed up the Mohawk cut that he was suppose to get. Overall, the rest of his body wasn't as clean cut as it should have been. The fur on my dog's paws were unevenly trimmed and his tummy was red and itchy for a few days because they razored too close to his skin. From my experience, I've been to pet grooming places in Manhattan and in Long Island. I will bring my dog to the best pet grooming places that I can find and I'm willing to try any place highly recommended by family and close friends. All the pet grooming places I've tried and used have been honest with me regarding grooming my dog. I will never go back to Le Pitou because the owner lied to me when she knew her groomer had messed up and pretended she didn't see the scratch or the missing fur. The owner knew that my dog was very precious to me. She knew how important he is to me and for her to downplay the mistreatment by one of her groomers is inexcusable. When I called back that same day, after noticing the mistakes the groomer made, and told the owner what had happened, she said she couldn't do anything because the groomer had left already. The owner said I could bring my dog in on Monday, 2 days later, if I wanted Elizabeth to fix the cut. After the grooming job Elizabeth did to my dog, I wasn't going to trust them anymore. For $65, the service should have been much better than what I got here. read more

This place does not even deserve one star. Took my dog for grooming here because Petco was closed due to covid19. I asked to be called 30 mins before pick up but never received a call. I happened to show up after 2 hours and was told by the groomer that she was just about to call me because my dog was done which made me wondered why i was not given a 30 mins heads up as requested since I didnt want my dog to wait in a crate. She informed me that due to the matted hair, my dog suffered a small cut which she put liquid bandaid on...this started to make sense as to why she didn't call me. When my dog was brought to me, it was not a small cut, it was about about an inch long and deep almost to the bone... she had packed it with liquid band aid to hide it. I paid her cash, as she requested and even give her a TIP and left.. I was upset but I figured it was a mistake and nothing I said would change what she did to my dog. The days that followed, my dog was in pain and shivering. I called her on day 3 and informed the groomer, who I believe is also the owner, that I will be taking my Sadie, my dog, to the vet because topical lidocaine and bacitracin was not working well. I'll asked her if she reimburse my vet's bill but she said it was my fault for taking the dog to her in "bad" shape, a job, by the way, she accepted. And just for the record, Sadie was matted but not in bad shape. Her last grooming was in February and she was being brushed regularly but still developed some knots under her belly...she is a shipoo so the poodle part of her still put her at risk of being matted as her hair grows. When I told her that the dog was shivering, she said she didn't do anything to cause that, clearly showed how incabable she was of recognizing that the injury she caused was a result of the pain and shivering. Needless to say, vet bill was 138 dollars and my dog needed oral antibiotic, topical antibiotic cream and pain pills. Vet said it will take 2 to 3 weeks to heal. Not only that, had she called me when she slashed my dog, I would have been able to assess the situation and taken her to Blue Pearl, the emergency room. But she instead, pouredl liquid bandaid to camouflage the extent of the injury and like a criminal, finished the grooming on a injured dog that was clearly traumatized and in pain. If a groomer can easily say that the dog was in bad shape, implying that injury is expected or ok is highly unacceptable. The cut wasn't even where the matted hair was, the cut is on the dog's foot!!! I am not groomer, i am only a nurse, but i appears that she, the groomer, used a larger size blade in the region and incurred the injury. For anyone that loves their dogs as much as I do, please ask yourself, are you comfortable using this place for grooming? read more

Le Pitou has definitely stepped up its game. This pet shop has been operating under new ownership for about two years, and I've definitely seen the difference. This review is for merchandise, boarding and customer service. (My dog is a boston terrier, so I don't use the grooming services). Merchandise: plenty of options for food, clothing, toys, accessories (beds, grooming, etc) - all pricey, but good quality. Ladies & gentlemen, if you want to feed your pets cheap food, go to Duane Reade and get those overprocessed, undernourished options there. If you want that dog bed that costs $25 and needs to be replaced in 3 months, go to Walmart. Stop complaining about the prices. If you live in Forest Hills and you own a pet, you are not hard up. Treat your pets like family, because that's what they are. Boarding: Oliver, my Boston, has serious separation anxiety. But when we come to Le Pitou, he's the rock star and he knows it. Not only does he forget who I am, but he almost seems reluctant to come home. They take the pooches for walks, give them space to play with each other, and if you are boarding overnight, they sleep in a cage-free environment (don't ask me how they do it). Customer Service: This is a big deal for me. The sales associates know me & my dog by name. They make recommendations. They were born to be around pets. And if I have a question about a product, they are always very knowledgeable. Mostly reliable (business hours change from time to time), always clean, yes they're pricey, but convenient (I can get everything I need for Oliver here - one stop shop). I've been going here for almost two years as I was looking for a local groomer for a monthly trim of my cat's nails. Today I went in and when I looked into the grooming area, my cat was in her carrier on the floor, sideways, meowing like crazy as the bag was swaying back and forth. It appeared that they put the carrier on the chair or table and it toppled over and they left her on the floor like that. I said something to the woman at the register and she goes, "she's fine don't worry about it," over and over, and walked away smiling as if she couldn't believe I had the nerve to say something. They finally bring her out and I said something again when I got to the register, and she fought with me and was outraged that I didn't want to pay full price for not just poor, but harmful service. She cut me a "discount" of no tax, so $2 off. Insane as this place is already twice the price of other groomers in the area. Needless to say, I won't be going back despite the convenience as they are careless with cats and rude to repeat customers. read more

If I could give this place ZERO stars I would! I confirmed two weeks in advance the day that I would need boarding service for my dog and was confirmed by the owner. I called the day before I was suppose to drop him off just to confirm again and I found it a bit strange that they didn't answer the phone or return my call. The morning of drop off, which was several hours before my flight, I take my dog with all of his things to Le Pitou and the store is completely closed!!! Lights off and of course no one answering the phone. The lack of professionalism and communication really ruined my travel plans and have called a lot of anxiety for me and my dog. Went there yesterday and was so happy to find a local pet store in my neighborhood. Until I went home and found: 1, the frozen raw meat I bought for my cat has no date, no Lot # on the container. The store owner told me it will never expire. I contacted the company, they told me there always have Lot # and Best By date. They told me to return it, and also asked for the store info. 2, all the items I bought are 20-30% more expensive than any of the online stores. I'm OK to pay a bit more to support a local business. But I'm NOT OK to be cheated! I got my $ back for the frozen raw meat, plus the bad attitude from the lady at the register. For $7, you just lost a customer and all her neighbors and friends who have pets. read more

NEVER AGAIN! I've taken my maltipoo here twice and was happy with the way my puppy was groomed, but after my experience on Sunday , I REFUSE to return. I was informed that groomer Kathleen would be taking care of my puppy and I was a little skeptical as to how well she would do. Kathleen told me that she would have to trim down my puppy due to some of his hair being matted. She continuously stated, "HE'S MATTED, HE'S MATTED." I asked Kathleen specifically how low she would have to cut down the hair, however, she was still unlcear and stated she would maintain the hair around his face. My puppy desperately needed a groom as his birthday is this week, so I wanted him to look good. Two hours pass by and Kathleen calls me and states in a very obnoxious tone, YOUR DOG HAS FLEAS. I was a bit confused and stated that I was unsure how he would have obtain fleas, as we keep him mostly indoors and he does not have contact with other dogs. Instead of explaining the ways in which a dog can obtain fleas she stated, "HE DOESN'T JUST HAVE ONE FLEA...HE HAS TEN FLEAS." Again in a very obnoxious tone. I was a bit upset to hear this because I would never want my dog to be in any discomfort. When I returned to Le Pitou II a woman behind the desk informed me that the fee would be $81.00. I asked her to explain the cost in which they did. I was charged an additional $20.00 for a flea bath and to remove the matted hair. Kathleen then brings out my dog and I was literally IN SHOCK. My once furry Maltipoo, looked like a puppy with absolutely no fur. I could see his bare skin! I was so turned off that I needed a moment to gain my composure. He looked like a completely different dog, and I almost did not recognize him. Kathleen then proceeds to tell me "YOU NEED TO TAKE BETTER CARE OF YOUR DOG." Then stated, "I'VE BEEN GROOMING FOR YEARS." I couldn't believe this woman had the nerve to tell me this! A person's dog is like their child. She was rude, disrespectful and had a disgusting attitude. I proceeded to ask for the supervisor's name, in which they informed me was "Alex." I advise dog owners to stay away from this establishment if Kathleen is doing the groom. She needs to take a course in etiquette, and the owner of Le Pitou II should look into who they hire as professional groomers as she was VERY UNPROFESSIONAL! read more

I started taking my yorkie here after Petco overbooked themselves and cancelled my grooming appointment without telling me. I had been wanting to try a local place so I called and booked a grooming appointment here and was able to get in quite soon. They were very nice and professional and my dog looked great! They did not shave my pup down as short as every other place I've been to has done and explained that cutting it too short can be harsh on her skin and expose her to sun damage-something I wish I had known earlier! I have been here twice now for grooming and will continue to go for all my dog's grooming needs! Super cute store too! I called others groomers in the area to get an appointment for my two dogs, and most of them were booked till the end of the year. This was the only one available. This was the first red flag. I made an appointment and they said they would confirm with me the day prior, they never did. I wasn't sure what time was the appointment, but when I called, they responded ridiculously rude, with no matters or education. If that's how I'm treated I can't imagine how they would treat my dogs. I politely told her I'm taking my pups somewhere else. This just proves all the bad reviews I oversaw because I was desperate to groom my babies are true. STAY AWAY! I've rarely need to make an appointment and it usually takes only a few minutes, so my son and I spend the time in the store playing with the friendliest shop cat in NY: Gerry! The selection of pet products is entertaining at best. Seems like they carry a lot of expensive brands of food and have a decent selection of toys and trinkets. However, my 1 star is for the lack of knowledge from staff. First, the woman at the front counter is not fluent in English. I'm very understanding and that could have been excused had it not been for the following deal breaker. In inquiring about boarding prices, she asked me what breed my dog was. I told her he was a Boston Terrier and she asked me how big he was. Anyone who's working with dogs should know the size of a Boston Terrier. On that alone, I would never bring my dog here. Plus, the "cageless" boarding area looked very small and the lights were off with two dogs in there in the daytime. This is about the grooming services about this place. Lets see, we dropped our toy poodle (His name is Fuzzmop) off at 12:45-1:00 on a Saturday, they weren't busy. We didn't receive a call till 7 pm. Now I suck at math but to me that seems like oh I don't know.....5-6 hours at the groomers, this sound right? When we went to pick up our dog we received no explanation or apology for taking so long. After we got home, he made bee line for his dish of water and food, and ate and drank like he didn't have a thing since breakfast. After he was done he curled up to my mom and wouldn't stop shaking. We both started petting him only for him to yelp in pain. Upon closer inspection we discovered that his skin was very pink, with splotches of red (not blood but light bruises). Result, razor burn on his body and face. And from what I can only assume some form of mistreatment and or neglect from the shivering and at how fast he was scarfing down food and water. After all the years of business we've given them, this is unacceptable. This place is horrible, WE ARE NOT GOING BACK EVER. Anyone reading this, read it again and then ask if you want to take your pet their if these are the conditions someone else's pet has received that has been a loyal customer for years. I've been meaning to write an update, but this is regarding to an update after i took my pup here the second time about 1.5 or 2 years ago. After taking one my of pups here the second time, i would recommend telling people not to take their pets here!! 1. We had a 10AM appt, and waiting around for almost an hour for the groomer to show up. 2. our groomer showed up. LATE. My husband and I thinks he was hungover cause he came in with shades on a rainy day. 3. I asked for an inch trim and he shaved my entire pup. It wasn't even a smooth shave. YOu can see where he started and where he ended on every part of her body. Man, if i can only find the picture of my pup. GRRR. on top of that, by the owners look on her face, you can tell that she was shocked too. But she tried to play it off saying that it looked good. Yea! It looked good my ass... Having since moved out of Forest Hills to the Upper West Side and taking my puppy to various groomers in the area. I've never even fathomed an 8 lb shih tzu to cost $100+ for JUST the cut - gee thanks UWS thats more than MY haircut. I can honestly say I MISS LE PITOU. No one cuts my shih tzu as well as they do and the price is unbeatable - and it includes everything. He always comes out happy, gorgeous and perfect. He's happy and my wallet is happy as well. YES, Pups and I are travelling all the way from the UWS back to Forest Hills solely to get some grooming loving from Le Pitou. I will never again let anyone else touch my dog again! read more

I felt compelled to write a review for Le Pitou because I have never felt so at home and comfortable to leave my cats for boarding anywhere, let alone groom them! My feisty kitty, Misha does not do too well with people, but she was gently handled by Alexandra (the owner) without a problem and I could tell they both felt very at ease. My other kitty, Kai was very happy with all the attention and fishy treats he got from the staff. This pet shop is truly one of a kind. The prices are totally reasonable and my cats received excellent care and attention. Do not hesitate to leave your pets at Le Pitou. You can tell everyone here puts their heart and soul into everything they do. I can't wait for the next time I get to walk into this store! read more

I took my baby Gia Monroe here for her first hair cut, after much research. Store front- cute, small, doggie boutique looking store with expensive overpriced stuff everywhere. A sweet lady checks you in, they ask for vaccinations, and appointments a must. grooming area- there grooming room is a open room with a bench outside of it. You can sit there and watch if you want to...which i love. Other groomers don't let you in "the back" and make me feel like somethings going on.....lol. A+ on the grooming area! the groomer- I have a morky that likes to wear a top knot, so i like her head to be left long for the top knot. I took her here 3 times and ALL 3 times the cut the top of her head way to short, after specific instructions. One of those visits was for her 1st birthday....so i was super annoyed! --___-- they do give her a top knot but it seems like they cut the hair after they do the top knot, which makes it completely uneven when her hair is not in a top knot. they also cut it way too short! (i want Gia to look like she has a wig on if ya no what i mean) Otherwise the grooming is pretty good, nails cut (its $5 or so dollars to have them file nails) and ear hair plucked. They also spray her with doggie perfume, which most places do. shes normally there 2-3 hours. most importantly, Gia was always happy and normal after we picked her up. They have never cut her. No acting weird after she gets home, and def no illness. Also place seems pretty clean and organized. I have a small dog so i paid $55 (which is standard) this place is pretty cool, just wish they would listen to my instructions instead of doing a normal puppy cut!!......they lost 2 stars .....my honey disagrees and thinks they should get 4 stars (for the record!...lol) read more

I went here in desperation....my cat was very matted and does not like to be groomed. I cannot say how happy I am with my experience at Le Pitou. The women that work there are some of the nicest people that I have ever met...and you can't argue with the results....happy good looking kitty! This review is only for the grooming and not for the products or for the boarding. Most particularly, my experience is with grooming cats, which tend to be much more difficult than dogs. I'm really surprised at the bad reviews that this place has received. We have four cats and they are all long-haired Persians so they have to be groomed every 3-4 months. We've tried multiple grooming places and never had the amazing experience that we've had at Le Pitou II. Some groomers insisted that I stay with the cat while it was groomed, which was terrible for me and such a time waster, and other groomers charged an arm and a leg! This place does a beautiful, thorough grooming job, where my cats come home with a very clean and polished lion cut, and they do so without me having to be there with the cat. They even bathe the cats and our cats seem to like it! The owner and employees are all so sweet, it's absolutely crazy to me that people say they are rude, they always go above and beyond with us, and sometimes I have made a mistake with appointment times or days and they still get our pet in. They are extremely generous and helpful, we have been to many grooming places and never had as good of a quality experience as we have at Le Pitou II. They even add treats and toys around Christmas, and tie little bows and hair things on our cats after they are done being shaved to make them more beautiful! Last time we went there, one of our cats freaked out a little and the groomer nicked his ear a little, and we were unable be reached so they took the cat to the vet themselves and got his ear stitched up at their own cost. They were so kind and apologetic, and it wasn't even a bad nick! The vet commented to me that we must be used to small nicks often since we have 4 cats and get them shaved so often, but we have never had that happen with Le Pitou II before, and we've taken our cats to them for years at this point. They are really conscientious about their work, and always fit us in and offer us savings since we come there so often. I would highly recommend trying this place out, both my husband and I think it is so fantastic. read more
