Views of the Dronne River, beautiful day and delicious drinks-what more could we ask for? Dinner menu looked enticing but we had already made reservations at another spot in town. My girlfriend and I stumbled upon this gem and had an amazing experience in our terrace room. We were brought our breakfast every morning and spent a night at the michelin star restaurant. The food was outstanding and the service was even better. I would recommend le Moulin du Roc to everyone and anyone. We will most definitely be back in the future.

The place is great for both the young and old with plenty of seating areas, inside and out, and plenty of cover outside to protect you from the summer sun. Inside the bar you have a number of TVs to watch the sport (which is always a great occassion when France are playing, especially Rugby and Football). There is an electronic darts board and a pool table and the place is very child friendly. The Bar staff speak both French and English (and no doubt a number of other languages) so no reason to feel shy about going in if you don't speak the local lingo. The place has recently started to do food. I have not eaten here but those I know who have have said that it is very good pub food. The beer is varied and very tasty although a little bit pricey!, although in true French fashion you can opt for a tea or coffee. A great little spot to meet up and enjoy a beer (or three!!)

Market day was particularly bad. Aside from that we went late one Saturday night and had a great meal from their small selection of typical brasserie meals which were really well priced and great value for money. It was also great to soak in the local atmosphere as the bar was really busy with lots of people having a good time including about a dozen members of staff perhaps they should put them on the early shift! A special mention for the frites which were outstanding.

A restored former mill, the hotel was beautifully refurbished and decorated. Our room was lovely and spacious, as well as immaculate. The swimming pool provided a welcome respite in the heatwave France was experiencing. We ate breakfast and dinner at the Moulin both days of our visit. All of the food and wine were delicious and served with grace. At petit dejenear (not really petit), fresh-squeezed orange juice, plain yogurt, fresh fruit, and a selection of croissants, along with tea or coffee, were served. Dinner was marvelous. We ordered from one of the menus offered. Standouts were confit de canard and filets de bar. The fish (sea bass) was garnished with shrimp, served with saffron rice and a light lemon butter sauce. The second night one of has the veal chop smothered in fresh, local mushrooms. Before the meal we were served amuse bouche and a sorbet with champagne between courses. For dessert, one of us indulged on the tarte aux pommes with vanilla ice cream (wonderful) and the other on homemade ananas (pineapple) sorbet. The wine selection is excellent and wine by the glass as well as half-bottles are available. We highly recommend Moulin de Vigonac.

The omelette aux cepes was good but not great as it missed the goose oil marinade. The ris de veau was topped with some herb pesto which covered the shortbread taste too much. Asked for a 2011 Bergerac reserve but was reserved a 2012. Room price was very fair and staff/owners nice though. One would improve on the breakfast as it was croissant and butter only basically. In general not bad but used to be better and more authentic under old owners.

The staff were extremely friendly and very helpful explaining the menu and what was in each dish. Service was also excellent, especially considering the fact that there were 6 people on our table. All our food arrived at the same time and all the food was hot. This place is a little pricey and is really the sort of place you may go for a more formal evening or a special occassion. However, the food was fantastic and well worth the price. I had the duck which was absolutely delicious (3-4 courses for about £30-40 PP - Wine extra). Our little party had a really lovely evening and would definately consider going back for that special occassion. The only thing stopping me giving this restaurant 5*s is the internal decor (a little dated) and the overall cost of the evening.

The large menu filled with lots of great regional and classic dishes sounded really fabulous, but when our dishes arrived they turned smiles into frowns. My stuffed salmon was gigantic but had hardly any flavor and the texture of the interior salmon mouse became such a drag to eat that I eventually stopped mid-way through. The vegetable medley on the side was an indistinct mound of chopped veggies that I question the freshness of. The fries that I tasted from my kid's menu were floppy and greasy. Really a shame as the location of this restaurant is really lovely.
