Choices for temp on the steak are rare, medium, or well done. If you like medium rare, just go for rare - it brings out a beefier taste. Service is super pleasant, the hardened pros these ladies are, who know their role in keeping everyone moving along, with a charming smile. You will wait in a very long line, and it will be worth it. After waiting an hour for a table on a Sunday night, I was very pleased with the food, the service, and the atmosphere in the restaurant. And the price (29 euros) is pretty great! Once you're finally inside, the staff is super nice and efficient (it helps having only a few things on the menu), and the salad is very refreshing after waiting so long to eat. The house red wine is very good, too. The steak comes rare, medium, or well done. If you usually go for medium-rare like I do, I recommend going rare. It was perfectly pink on the inside but still had a good bite. The steak is excellent, and the sauce is to die for. And the French fries? Out of this world. It may seem a little gimmicky that they refill your plate, but you'll be so happy with how good the food is, it doesn't matter. I used the fries to scrape the plate clean. I can see why this place is very popular and always busy! We had to wait outside for over an hour for dinner. There isn't much covering for those waiting in line, so we were lucky that it wasn't hot, but unfortunately it was raining (although we did have umbrellas). The restaurant is also super crowded, so just be aware that you might need to be careful moving around. The food was really delicious! The fries were freshly fried and warmed up on the side after being fried. The sauce for the steak was so good too. To me it tasted like there was some curry or cumin powder, but other family members disagreed, so not entirely sure. I don't remember what they said was the suggested/original way to order the steak but it was so tender and juicy. Come early, come hungry! You'll see a zillion Instagram reels about this place and the hype is real! We arrived at opening (18:30) on Sunday evening and the line was around the corner. There is no seating in line other than the curb or a few window sills so wear comfortable shoes. We were seated around 20:00 and the meal was worth the wait. Wine is offered by the bottle or the glass. The salad is has a mustard based dressing which was flavorful but not overpowering. The star of the dinner is the steak and frites. You will receive up to two servings of each. For the steak you may choose rare, medium, or well. The sauce is the hit as it adds tremendous flavor to the already tender steak. Save some room for dessert. The chocolate profiteroles were similar to mini-eclairs with their decadent chocolate and cream filling. The interior has a bar showing their wines and desserts. Waitresses wear classic black dresses with white aprons. About the only negative is the wait - unless you show up well before opening you could easily wait 90-120 minutes for a table. You'll also be directed to your table so you have a low probability of outdoor seating (our table was at an open slider, adjacent to the sidewalk). If you hope to do anything after dinner (even just see the Eiffel Tower lit up and sparkle), come early. We arrived at 18:30, sat at 20:00, and left after 21:30. This was the first restaurant my wife and I stopped at when we landed in Paris because of the recommendations from our friends. Granted, we waited for about an hour and a half, and it was definitely worth the wait! Once we were seated, we were provided with great hospitality service from the waitress. It's funny because the first thing they ask is how would you like your steak because they only know tourists are coming here for the steak or I also think that's all they serve lol. The meat was really soft and tender, and the sauce paired with it was amazing along with their fries. The first day I arrived in Paris, I went straight to this Relais de l'Entrecôte location since I planned to do some shopping on Champs-Élysées Avenue afterward. I wanted to beat the crowd and see what the hype was about, especially since I had never had steak frites in Paris before. I got there about 30 minutes before the restaurant opened, and there was already a long line, but I made it in as part of the first wave. There's no menu for the main dish. The waitress simply asks how you want your steak cooked, and shortly afterward, she brings out the spicy mustard dressing salad, followed by your table's portion of steak and fries. You get two plates full of steak and fries, which may seem like a lot, but to the American appetite, it was enough food and not overly excessive. The steak and fries were good, and the sauce that came with the steak was really delicious. Our waitress was very nice and friendly. Everybody spoke English, so there were no issues with language barriers. Yes, this restaurant is touristy and located right by a super touristy shopping street. I was craving steak frites so headed over to Le Relais de l'Entrecote. There was quite the wait to get in. I got there just before 8 and waited for an hour to get seated. (Too bad they don't take reservations). Given the line, they pack the restaurant to the max.. no room for personal space here, but once you get in service is quick. They ask how you want your steak prepared and take your drink order. Shortly after a salad is served with bread. The steak frites itself, it was ok. Flavors were a bit bland and the steak grade was average. They serve half your steak and frites portion and the second half follows after you finish. Also tried the profiteroles au chocolat, which was yummy! Love me some profiteroles and these didn't disappoint. All in all I'm glad I went, but I'd pass during a future trip to Paris. Then the steak frites comes and everyone gets 2 portions (they are on the smaller end so don't be alarmed) The sauce on the steak was great but my one thing is that you have 3 options for steak cooking but they seemed kind of random as to whether you got rare or medium or whatever. Your meal starts with a lettuce salad with walnuts and horse radish, while simple it tastes surprisingly good. Then comes the main course the fries and the steak I got mine medium and it came out more medium rare. Don't ask for ketchup. But the fries and steak sauce are incredible. The waiters are all women dressed in timeless but 1950s type outfits. I highly recommend the food here but expect to wait quite a while if you don't show up before it opens. Did I eat it, yes. But had I known, the would have gone for medium. Would I go back? No. It's around $36 US and it's an interesting experience, but I suspect there are similar places with shorter lines. FYI, the gravy is very different than anything in the states. We ordered. Not a choice as we knew. So we got the Entrecôte with a greenish mustardish sauce and fries. The entrecôte was cooked perfectly but that is about all that was perfect about it. It was so tough. The sauce, that I remember being the best part of the meal was a bit off tasting. Wish I could pin point the taste. It was not very good. The fries were the best part of the meal. The place was packed, bumper to bumper. The ladies that work there looks absolutely exhausted. And they work so very hard. Service was very attentive. The cost was $27.50 and it was all one can eat. I turned 38 in Paris a couple months ago, and my friends Ava B. and Maka E. treated me to a birthday lunch at Le Relais de l'Entrecôte. I'd never heard of this place, but there was a long line when we showed up at 1:30 on a Saturday, and I was, of course, immediately intrigued. Le Relais de l'Entrecôte is apparently one of a handful of restaurants run by three (for sure feuding) second-generation branches of the Gineste de Saurs family, who built a steak frites empire in Paris and beyond. This location is the oldest of the Relais de l'Entrecôte restaurants, and is commonly referred to as L'Entrecôte Saint-Germain. We were already hungry when we got there, but endured over an hour in line, in the freezing January cold, looking longingly inside as we stood waiting by the windows. The line moved at a reasonable clip for a sit-down restaurant. This isn't the kind of place where you linger over a post-meal coffee. The restaurant was fun, bustling and bistro casual, with lots of lamps and reddish wood. There were colorful tablecloths covered in disposable white mats for quick clean-up. Service was brisk and impersonal, though not at all unpleasant. The waiters just kept things moving. My only complaint on this front is that the default water option was an expensive bottle. You have to request tap water if you want to avoid that trap. There's no menu at Le Relais de l'Entrecôte. You sit down and tell your server if you want your steak rare, medium, or well done. You may also order a beverage. I got a glass of what I assume was the house red, which was both perfectly fine and maybe the only one on offer (I ordered "red wine"). The food started coming as soon as we sat down. Lunch started with white bread and a green salad with radish, walnuts, and a nice dressing that zinged with mustard. As soon as we finished our salads, we got our steak frites: a beautiful plate of contre-filet steak, house secret sauce, and golden fries. I ordered my steak rare, and this was the right call. It was tender and delicious, especially with that flavorful green sauce. The frites were just right, thin and crispy, the ideal side for the steak. There were, interestingly, several dessert options, and we went for the profiteroles, which were tasty and covered in chocolate sauce and slivers of toasted almond. My lunch was short and sweet. I arrived at the restaurant exactly at 11:30 and there were already 6 people in line waiting for the doors to open at noon. When that time came, the line was extensively longer - the indoor seating was packed within minutes. There was still outdoor seating available. The waitstaff was lovely. It seemed every 5 minutes they had to tell a group of diners that there's a line outside and they never got annoyed or rude with anyone. They were also very attentive and you can't get that kind of service most places. I gave the restaurant 4 stars instead of 5 because I thought the food was a little above average. It wasn't anything I would brag about, but it was a decent meal and I enjoyed it. I'm not a fan of salad so I only ate it until the steak and frites came, but I liked the touch of walnuts. I liked the steak sauce especially with the fries, but neither was absolutely amazing on its own. The steak itself wasn't cooked to the right temperature for me, but that may be because the US and France have different standards (obviously). Nevertheless, the meat was tender, easy to cut, and went down well. I just wish it had more seasoning. This was the first time I tried profiteroles. I thought there would be more to them, but I wasn't disappointed. You can't lose with the combination of chocolate, almonds, vanilla ice cream, and puff pastries. It's always a somewhat difficult adjustment to revaluate your expectations when it comes to the quality of food when traveling to different countries. Because I'm so used to over-seasoned/salted American food, I think my unhealthy preferences took away from the food at this restaurant. It's a good restaurant that is always packed. Let me just say, even though I knew the wait would be long I still didn't expect to wait in line for 45min at 10pm but alas we made it in. Seating is super packed and tight but they have a system. Our waiter was amazing, so friendly and gave recommendations when needed. Now on to the most important part, the food! The salad & bread weren't bad but nothing to rave about. The steak & fries were good - have I had better absolutely but the sauce is what makes it different. We got profiterole chocolat for dessert and loved it!
