The alterations I got done were adjusting the size of the overall dress to fit me, adding traditional Filipino sleeves, a bustle, and taking in the neckline. When I arrived she quickly started pinning me, me and my future mother-in-law could tell she was very experienced. After she gave us the pricing, and I thought it was fair enough to move forward! She finished my dress in a little over a month. When I came back to pick it up, the sleeves needed further adjusting which was understandable given they are a cultural piece that she probably wasn't too knowledgeable in. I got this lehenga from India for my friend's Indian wedding, but as you can tell from the picture, it was WAY too long and big! I also wasn't a fan of the high neckline. After contacting a few places that do tailoring I ended up choosing here because they were the quickest to reply and most helpful in answering my questions. I had a shirt that needed to be brought in that had lots of beading and details so I knew it wasn't going to be cheap. The price was very reasonable and worth it. They're a bridal shop so they're familiar with altering clothes with lots of details. I waited til the last week before my event and was worried no one would be able to finish it in time. The lady that helped us was very kind and helpful. She was very accommodating to our schedule and was able to finish the alterations days before my event. I'm extremely disappointed with my experience here and feel obligated to warn others. I brought in an evening maxi dress to be tailored. It was running big on me. The dress is lined but not overly complex and it is not a wedding gown. It's valued at around $200, and I purchased it secondhand for $90. After being pinned, I was quoted $604 for alterations. I was honestly shocked. When I later told friends and family the quote, every single one of them said the price sounded outrageously high for my maxi dress. The quote was more than the dress itself is worth. Realizing this, I called to cancel the service. A man answered the phone and said he didn't understand me. Later, I received a call back from who I believe was Le. Unfortunately, communication was very difficult. When I explained that I wanted to cancel, she told me she had already started working on the dress even though she originally told me it would take 7 days to complete. Suddenly, after I asked to cancel, she said it would be done the very next day. This inconsistency raised red flags for me. I became frustrated because I felt like I wasn't being heard or understood, and I was uncomfortable with how quickly the timeline changed once I tried to cancel. What's most disappointing is that I genuinely wanted to support a local business. I prefer giving my money to small businesses rather than large corporations. However, after this experience, I honestly feel I would have been better off going to a larger, well-known company like David's Bridal, where pricing is more standardized and transparent. Unfortunately, situations like this are exactly why some people are hesitant to use local businesses. when pricing feels excessive and customers feel taken advantage of, it damages trust. At this point, I am requesting at least my deposit back, as I understand some work may have already been started; but, the pricing felt excessive and the situation was handled poorly. I strongly encourage anyone considering alterations here to: * Ask for a detailed breakdown of pricing upfront * Compare quotes elsewhere before committing * Make sure you fully understand the total cost before any work begins In my experience, the quote was far too high for an evening maxi dress, and the communication/language issues made the situation even more frustrating. I was so happy when I found a true professional dressmaker. I am always in need of someone to alter my clothes. Specifically, suit blazers. The sleeves are always too long.
