This is the Hotel Charbonnel's restaurant and we ended up here for dinner two nights in a row. The dining area is understated and nothing fancy. They do have a nice outdoor seating area with a great view of the La Dronne river and surrounding scenery. We were inside for both meals as still slightly chilly in the evenings. We started with some fish mousse. Savory, light and delicious! Champagne to pair with our starters. We ordered a couple of the Foie Gras for sharing which was excellent! The Omelette was billed as an entree but We ordered it for sharing. Never had it as a starter and the Truffles took it over the top. For main, I ordered the Filet with Truffle sauce topped with Foie Gras (Rosinini style) and potatoes. Filet was so tender and cooked a perfect medium rare. Foie Gras topping takes it to the moon! One of those meals you don't want to end. The second visit we decided on last minute as it was around 8. We thought they might be booked but they had a table for us. Has to be because we are at the end of off peak season. For starter, it was the Artichoke dish. Amazing flavors coming from the Chèvre, Jambon crisps and fresh artichokes. I wanted to order the Filet again but was convinced to order/share the 2 person Beef Wellington (great decision!.). Don't know how they prepared it without a pre-order but this is France & no matter. The Wellington was brought out whole and cut in front of us in half. The steam/Truffle aroma was sublime. Puff pastry was perfect and the mashed potatoes behind the steak were a surprise. Don't know how they cooked the steak so perfectly and the Truffle sauce-Wow! Although billed for two, we couldn't finish a good amount of the potatoes and puff pastry shell. Other dishes that were ordered and enjoyed and all excellent: Asparagus and Escargot starter, Lamb, Shrimp Entrees. Had the 3 Chocolate dessert and it was light and a chocolate lover's delight. Prix fixe for 58 Euros which is such a bargain! We also had a bottle of Château De Tigrand (local/small batch) and finished with the Broderie XO Cognac. Two unexpected and amazing dinners In a row at a Hotel restaurant. How lucky can a guy get?! Service was exceptional! Courses were timed perfectly. If you are anywhere near Brantome, make this culinary adventure stop. I can't recommend enough!

I've dined at this classic French restaurant many times (and stayed in their comfortable hotel…read morerooms) and can recommend it highly. Service is professional, relaxed and spot-on, and the cuisine is of very high quality. The staff will recommend good wines to accompany your meal, at very reasonable prices. I am returning to the Hôtel Restaurant Charbonnel in May 2019 and really looking forward to it.

The owner is from New Zealand and he is an attentive and charming host. Service is good and the atmosphere also good even if the most of the diners were English speakers. The food was fine, really good Thai soup, perfectly edible but unremarkable ratatouille, tasty fried chicken strips, and a small meringue which was very sweet and a good taste. Butit was quite expensive relative to the prices in the other restaurants, the quality was OK but short of outstanding and the portion size was modest. Presentation was good though. Wine was OK, considering this was France I had hoped it would have been better. Overall I got the distinct impression that corners were being cut to make this a profitable business and it showed. The restaurant is only open from Friday to Monday and they prefer you to reserve a table rather than just turn up. I wouldn't go back but I would urge you to try it to see what you think perhaps I've been a bit harsh.

I've never…read moremet the woman who does the cooking, but her husband who runs the front of house is originally from New Zealand. I believe she may be Swiss? If I remember my convo with her husband correctly. I think their menu doesn't change that much, but I don't come here that often. She usually has amazing flavors. I always say it satisfies my craving for English food. She often has a pie that has a curry inside. I have also had a filo-wrapped fried cheese for starter a couple times. Its my guilty pleasure spot for sure. It's not traditional French at all, but those of us that live here all the time appreciate that too!

What a great place close to Brantome! A renovated watermill with breathtaking scenery and…read morearchitecture. We took the romantic suite overlooking the river which was an absolute sweetspot. The food is a mix of perigord tradition with modern cuisine influences. We recommend the gastronomique menu . Topped with a local bergerac wine . To finish the evening , take your coffee/tea outside at the porch overlooking the river and park ...All highly recommended !!
