There is a bar and limited food offerings. One then carries his or hers drink and food downstairs to a very small space. Listeners perch on chairs elbow to elbow and place drinks on small trays fastened to pedestals. I wouldn't bother with the food--it's not that good, and it's tricky to manage eating and moving out of the way for other people. The couple next to me said that they assumed all jazz clubs were like this, and I explained that they are not. Americans would generally find that space uncomfortable. It's true that Vieux Lyon is very concentrated, but I was in comfortable restaurants. The main problem for me was the rudeness of the staff during intermission. I left after the first set because of the nastiness of a young woman working the bar and a young man who had some kind of function. Who knows what? I attempted to carry my glass upstairs, and he yelled at me "Madam!" and grabbed the glass. When I ordered "cidre" at he bar, the young woman laughed at me and said that she didn't understand what I was saying. "Cidre" (cider) is not a difficult word. I speak French well enough so that I could joke with a guy working security at the airport when he removed my watch and said that he would take it home for his wife. I said that she deserved better. He said he would give it to his mistress. I can order cidre. The French have a reputation for rudeness, but I have found that they are generally polite and kind. Not these people. I have been twice to Aux Petits Joueurs in Parus and will go there again. The music is good, the food is good, and the people are nice.

It was a fruity rum punch but I thought it tasted like singed plastic, so we switched to beer after that. We were pretty much left alone, but not in a rude, when-are-you-going-to-leave way. The atmosphere was super laid-back and it was very quiet. Besides us, there were some men seated at the bar who, judging by their chatting with the bartender, were local and regulars, and there was also a group of 20- or 30-somethings at another table. There was music playing in the background from I'm guessing an iPod or something. There is a record player behind the bar though, so I'm curious if they ever break out their vinyl collection. When we left, my bf started talking with the bartender, who told us that they sometimes have live music on Friday nights, and sometimes will show concert footage or other live recordings. (I wonder if they ever play Dark Side of the Moon over Wizard of Oz? I should suggest that next time we go in.) The bartender was very friendly; when we told her that we were new residents of the neighborhood, she welcomed us and offered to help if we ever needed anything. I was touched! All in all, I doubt this will ever be my favorite bar in Lyon, but it's close to home and I will definitely go back.

Moreover, in France it is illegal to sell tickets without the agreement of the organizer. That means I bought the ticket for the trash. Worst experience in my life when it comes to concerts. Stay away from this place if you don't live in Lyon. What happened to me might happen to you as well.
