Their smoked salmon was fresh and brightened with lemon. It was a wonderful experienced trying the food with different champagnes. We found that the salmon tasted better with the Demi-sec and the foie gras was perfect with brut champagne. I loved the blend of three grapes to make the Champagne Brut exclusiv't. I also loved the rich flavor of the Rose. Amazing. I had a wonderful time and so did all the people leaving the bar. Even the toddler with the drunk parents.

It's not Michelin star dining but you already know that going in and this place is very good for what it is. You'll find quite a few locals here and a lot of beer drinkers - beer is "hot" in France and especially on a very hot weekend with temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit there were more people enjoying a beer than wine. But the small wine list included some nice options including a nice Gobillard Blanc de Noirs and the food was very good. My salmon was (somewhat surprisingly) perfectly cooked and great - the haricot verts were a bit bland and overcooked but still healthier than frites. My wife's pizza had a typical French crust and with the standard ham & mushroom toppings was very tasty. I would generally give this place 4 stars and I'm definitely a fan. However, you have to take it for what it is - as far as Brasseries go this is one of the better places you'll find in small towns across France. And the main other review on here is complaining about the steak - let's be honest, if you order steak or sausage in France it's usually a bit more funky and just different than you may expect despite the common names. For the most part, the kitchen here does a pretty good job even on a hot day when it had to be sweltering in back. If you're looking for a casual outdoor meal in Epernay with good food & drink and generally friendly service, you may have found your place.
