I always eat at this small, local, totally authentic cafe whenever I stay in Bercy. Located away…read morefrom the touristy (and higher priced) venues, the chalkboard menu changes every time. Since I don't speak French, I rely on the friendly waitress or owner (cook) to tell me what to order and pair a bottle of wine. They have never steered me wrong, although they keep trying to get me to eat what I believe is the boiled cranium of some farm animal (apparently a traditional French dish). The Ef Coe Cut is a must as an appetizer...basically egg in a bowl with meat & mushroom sauce. Like many French restaurants, they close between lunch & dinner. If you arrive before 19:30, you may have to sit at the bar until they start serving dinner. If you arrive too late, you may not get a seat (there aren't many).

What a gem!!! Thank goodness for Yelp for steering us over to this amazing, wonderful, cute,…read moredelicious cafe that was 1 block from our hotel (but we never would have passed by without Yelp). We stayed in Bercy, so after a looooong 24+ hours of travel on planes trains and automobiles and checking in to our hotel, we were starving and headed straight here. We got here just before the lunch rush and easily got a table at around 12:30 (at about 1:00 people were being turned away). They did not really speak English here and I do not really speak French, but we made it work. The husband and I both had the prix fixe.... carrot soup, bread, wine, and I had the deer (I think....) in red wine sauce and he had pork of some sort over pasta in a white wine sauce. The carrot soup was possibly the best thing I tasted in Paris.... it was so flavorful, perfectly spiced, and fresh tasting..... It was wonderful. I did not leave one drop in the cup. The white wine paired well with it and tasted fantastic. My deer was very tender and the sauce was good... it came with a small cocotte of potatoes, which were tasty, but , unfortunately for me, the husband's pork/white wine sauce was better than my food. That sauce.... ohhhh that sauce was unlike anything I have ever tasted.... it was so good. I sopped it all up with bread, calories be damned! We had all of this for about 40 euro and it was worth every cent. If you are in the neighborhood, be sure to check this place out!
