We had an early dinner. Ordered two of the Open face cheese sandwiches with fries. Both were very fresh and tasty. Dessert, bread pudding, was absolutely awful. It was like some kind of bizarre sliced something with that that carnation dehydrated sweetened milk poured over it. Really inedible. Service was okay. If I'd stopped with just the food this would be a four-star review, but the dessert was downright sickening. read more

Only place open for breakfast at 0800 on Friday morning. Good coffee, fresh orange juice and huge croissant for 5,80 euros. However they weren't serving omelets or eggs as shown on the posted menu. Nice terrace read more

At about 8 am on a Sunday morning, Le Trouvere was one of the only cafes open in cite médiévale de carcassonne, so myself, my sister, and my husband sat ourselves on the outdoor patio with a few other tables already sipping caffe for breakfast. My sister had spent the last 8 months living in Samur and she's very fluent, so my husband and I let her do the talking as she order us an affordable breakfast spread of coffee and breads. The scenery was beautiful, so even though it took a little while to get our food (I'm such a US American), we soaked up the sensation that we were about to have breakfast in a surviving medieval city! Once we got our breakfast, the breads were amazing, the jams were delicious, and the coffee was...well, acceptable. We're coffee snobs who grind local artisan roasted beans and this was instant, but it was still coffee and we were in freaking Carcassonne, France! Who cares how the coffee was?! But seriously, the baguette was incredible and the outside patio was wonderful, it was a great stop for a cheap bit to eat. read more

Very rude, disrespectful and bad attitude waitress/manager with no customer service, and who puts down other nationalities esp English speaking people as she is "French" and does not want to speak English. That is after all insulting words in English came out from her mouth. By the way, there was no paper towel to use after washing hands and the water faucet was complicated to use with no water coming out ( 2nd floor sink next to WC). I wonder how this waitress became the manager running a customer service oriented business in a very popular tourist attraction in France. Avoid this person and restaurant. read more

The food is reasonable, but service is very bad. The servers are impolite and rude. They allmost slam your food on the table and are very slow. After asking for the desertmenu and waiting for 15 minutes we asked for the Bill, which was slammed on our table within 2 minutes. read more

Stumbled across this place in January, where most businesses are closed for their winter break. Sat outside as it was quite warm and were given menus and water almost instantly. Friendly service, great tasting food and good value for money. We both had the burgers. This place is definitely worth a visit! read more

My friend and I decided to enter this well situated pub based on the amount of people eating in the restaurant...usually a good sign. We were quickly seated upstairs (not a place you want to go) in a quaint, original timber lined room and left with menus. A waiter stopped by when he came into the room to leave a check for the next table - he then took our drink and food order. My friend ordered a set menu for 13.99 euro -french onion soup, sausage/fries and then fruit for dessert plus still water. I ordered a croque monsieur, and a glass of the local house red wine. My entree (croque monsieur) arrived - burnt edges, ONE slice of weak ham and somewhat cold cheese -with my companion's starter of weak onion soup and a very nasty glass of weak, watery and somewhat bitter wine. I asked for a different glass of wine as both of us felt the wine really was sub-par - the waiter removed it and we never saw him again till we paid the bill. I was finished with my sandwich by the time my friend's entree of sausage arrived leaving me with no food OR wine to enjoy my company with. I asked the waiter who delivered the sausage if I might get that different glass of red wine and it was delivered by yet a third different waiter. The new glass of wine was great - full, hearty and had good legs - so I sat back and conversed with my friend. Their plate was cleared and we awaited the sweet course of fruit....and waited...and waited. When a new table was seated we inquired regarding the missing third course and was presented (by a fourth waiter) with a dish of canned fruit cocktail - really? Wanting to depart, we asked a couple of the previous 'hit & run' waiters for a check - to no avail. We departed though the partial loo - long story, see other reviews or my photo - and went in search of a check on the ground floor. We were verbally abused by a waiter who wanted us to move out of his way while we were trying to pay for the awful lunch. We finally found our bill only to find it was on one check, not separate as we specified...it did not exceed 20 euros each so they do not do separate checks - aaaack! To add insult to injury, we were charged for the horrible glass of wine. We had several good to great meals while staying the area that week, this was not one of them. read more
