Completely solid and wonderful brasserie in Levallois Perret.
It is on Rue Henri Barbusse next to the best grocery shopping block in the city . On the other side of the block is the grand municipal market.
So if you cook at home - which I like to do when I am in France - you are right where you need to be.
Levallois Perret is a rich suburb - but some of it is ugly.
To fit in all those rich people, they have lots and lots of very high upscale apartment buildings.
Much of that part of the town feels like Sao Paulo without the crime.
(Sao Paulo = Eighteen story upper and middle class apartment buildings as far as the eye can see in all four directions - one building right after the other.)
However, this part of Levallois Perret is cute.
Early twentieth century buildings with artisanal plasterwork and marble fireplaces. Grillwork balconies.
The first floors have stores of various useful natures.
The cafes fit right into the half commercial/half gracious concept.

Le Trebois is one of two very popular cafes on the street. There are always lots of people eating and drinking there.
The menu is standard French brasserie.
Execution is lovely.
The wife and I had fish burgers - a new addition to standard French menus.
Every cafe now has fish burgers.
Fish burgers can be ground fish. (Rillettes made with seafood are as French as baguettes.)
Or they can just take the fish they would have used in fish and chips - a very traditional French staple - and put the fish on a bun instead of on a plate.
Le Trebois goes with the second approach.
The fish and chips fish is super good - so by extension the fish burger is also good.
A cafe gourmand allowed me to get a free sample of the house desserts.
(Cafe gourmand = coffee plus three mini desserts).
Here the house does not even bother making things mini.
They just give you what they would have given you had you ordered any of the desserts straight up.
I did not complain.
Creme brulee freshly roasted from the flame torch they use for flambeeing things ... an utterly addictive cheesecake - AND a huge tiramisu.
3 x dessert = 3 x happiness.
Especially when all three desserts are fine examples of what they are.
