Was impressed with the World illustrators Award exhibition that I came especially from Belfast to see. Could not believe a show of that calibre would be in NI never mind a galley I had not heard of or been to before rather than the bigger well know Belfast galleries. Also got an invite from the receptionist to the next show by Sea Court printers. Apparently when you sign up to receive emails you get invites to opening events. Pretty cool.

Run by East Belfast Arts Collective, this Gallery has moved from its original location in a mill Engine Room to a street-level showroom just a little further east on the Newtownards Road. Since the Engine Room opened in the mid 1990s it has been according to the gallery "an engine at the core of the development of contemporary art in Belfast." The range of works on show include everything from oils and acrylics to prints, video, sculpture, arte povere, installation art and new technology. The gallery also aim to showcase lesser known local artists alongside more well known artists with international profiles. There are new exhibitions every month.

Stephen Shaw paints in watercolour and what really intrigued me about his work was his subject choice, where most people would think of water colours as being restricted to landscapes etc. Stephen has branched out in to painting local scenes (e.g. North Street arcade, Shankhill Graveyard, Ardoyne Shops) and it works brilliantly! It's lovely to see local scenes painted in such a wonderful way. The gallery is a tiny little place but what's more important is what is on the walls and that more than makes up for how small the viewing space is. When I visited a few days ago I noticed a small plant in the corner of the room. I discovered the seed form this beautiful plant was found in the ruins of North Street Arcade (after it was burnt out - reportedly in an arson attack) and this plant has grown from the embers of the fire in to the regenerating and beautiful process of life. I love this quirky gallery and will definitely be back to see the ever changing display grow and nourish.

The stuff in here is perfect for stocking up on great gifts for birthday presents or Christmas! And they also have a whole range of costumes and toys in here too. If you come n here with a child be prepared for a long stretch as the store is jam packed and kids just love it! It's pretty cheap too which is always good as people do tend to rip the arse out of kids shops as they know tantrums could result in a child not getting what they want and parents looking for the easy life begrudgingly giving in. Ahh, the joys of what I have to look forward to.

I think the kid in me is just attracted to glitter!…read more I'm also a big fan of hand-making cards for friends and family, so I do spend a good bit of time in shops like Art & Hobby, agonising over which thickness of card to get (seriously. I've been known to have to leave the shop to have a think before I buy!). The Art & Hobby shop is in a great location, probably the best location of all the crafty shops in town, so I end up going in simply because I'm passing it. It's not my favourite though. I find it a little more expensive than its rivals and it is a lot more focused on kids toys and crafts, which can make it hard when you want to make a card for someone over the age of 5!

I had the pleasure of calling in here after noticing the decorative chess pieces displayed in the…read morewindow and couldn't resist a look in. It's a small art gallery on Donegal Street which I'd never been in before (shock horror!) which displayed various canvases, statues, sculptures, chess pieces, paintings etc. You could literally smell the hard work (I love me some solvents ...no not really) but the man was obviously hard at work. After a quick glance round I began to look more intensely at some of pieces. There was a great 'Ulster fry' piece and also the fairy pictures were breath taking. The statues were so detailed and life like I could hardly believe it. I began talking to one of the shop owners, a friendly man called Anto who specialised on the local figure paintings while his brother concentrated on the sculpture side of the business. I had a fascinating talk with him about his life, his ideas, his business and he made me promise to call in back for a cuppa tea and a chat (Bless!) I had a look on his website and discovered he founded his company in 1995 and since then has been making original, popular sculptures of everyday people, politicians and some famous clientele. An important feature of the company and studio is to provide workshops to enable individuals and groups to gain experience of different mediums, in particular sculpting. So it is without a doubt that I recommend this place. Call in yourself and see what's on offer. Or for a brief look around then see the pictures attached.

Artists you would usually see in a museum, here on the walls to view (and buy). I was made to feel most welcome and given so much information about the artists and their work. It was truly a wonderful experience. I'm not sure of the gentleman's name but he was so lovely @nicholasgallery

Strange but true, and his ceramic art's hanging on the walls of Nicholas Gallery right now. Amazing to see, but it's not just Picasso. You'll also find Francis Bacon, Joan Miro, Andy Warhol, Lucian Freud, Bridget Riley, Henry Moore and Frank Auerbach's art here amongst many other big international names. It's pretty cool and impressive, even though they are smaller pieces such as drawings and limited edition, original prints. Definitely worth having a look at. I'm glad I wandered into Nicholas Gallery and will be returning frequently to eye up and lust after the art goodies.

Interesting, amusing and thought-provoking work showcased in a large space which has an industrial/ warehouse vibe. I enjoyed the sense of adventure involved in wondering what would confront me as I turned each corner. A perfect way to pickle the brain and intrigue the senses - plus the hospitality of wine and beer was greatly appreciated!
