I've been taking lessons with Ina once a week for several years. I learned Spanish as a child, but hadn't taken more than beginner lessons. Ina has gently and very patiently helped me to break some bad grammatical habits that I'd previously picked up as a result of not having had much formal training. I was excited to find someone who teaches Spanish and offered zoom plus weekends. I contacted Ina letting her know my availability would be weekends. She proceeded to take my call... before the call I messaged her if it was okay to call her at the time agreed. She said yes, as soon as I called her she was ending a session and was so very rude and dismissive.. she told me that she wouldn't have availability and to call her next month. I told her I am Mexican and pretty much know some and have people around me who speak Spanish.. she rudely rushed me off the phone and said no sorry nothing available and hung up in my face. I have been a student with Christina for 8 months so far. She took me from knowing very little Spanish to speaking Spanish comfortably at my work in the pharmacy. We have many patients who only speak Spanish, so my drive to help them brought me to Christina. I'm not fluent; I still have a while to get to Spanish conversation level, but that is what is expected when learning a language. It takes years to get fluent. Because I'm in my first year, she emphasises 'gramatica' so you learn all the tenses/ verb conjugations. I see her twice a week in 2 hour sessions, and I need to emphasize the importance of seeing her or any teacher consistently because if you don't use it, you lose it. I went on vacation for 10 days and came back to her, and it took a a whole week to get back to speed. She pushes you hard and is strict, but that is my preference in a teacher. I need structure and pressure to continue my learning. You need to do homework as well. Usually, she gives you a few pages so it's not bad. What I love about her is her drive to want you to succeed. She will spend as long as needed to solidify certain subjects until you feel comfortable. For example, I had an issue learning present subjunctive and proper usage of it. She spent three to four weeks on me with example after example pushing me until it finally clicked. I like how flexible she is with scheduling, she tries to accommodate you. She even does skype / video chat if you are traveling or unable to make it to see her. Personally, I prefer in person, so I haven't video chatted. I took Spanish classes to level three at school. I noticed having her as a teacher has taken my Spanish learning to such a high level than college/ high school classes. Her price is affordable, and she is a top notch teacher. Due to medical issues I received an incomplete grade in a 2nd-year college-level Spanish course I was taking, leaving me to complete my coursework and finish the class on my own. Because much time had passed during my recovery process, I essentially had to re-learn the language I had studied, which I never could have done without the assistance of Cristina. I came upon her website and was immediately impressed by how detailed, helpful, and organized it was: characteristics which Cristina epitomizes herself. From the moment I first contacted her, I knew I was in good hands, evident from her high level of professionalism and determination to help me be successful. I came into our first tutoring session without a lesson plan or any direction for how I wanted the meetings to run. I only brought my book, and showed Cristina the various chapters of what I needed to learn. From there, Cristina created a highly organized plan and schedule for what we needed to cover, and as we progressed in my studies she made sure to tweak our calendar to include various areas where I needed more assistance. Unlike your standard tutor, Cristina taught me how to speak Spanish, and is truly one of the best teachers I've had (including those I've had in a classroom.) As I've gone through school I've worked with several tutors in various subjects, but have found none of them to compare with Cristina's level of excellence. She is a true perfectionist and doesn't work at anything less than the highest quality of performance. Thanks to her I passed my class with flying colors, and will be heading off to UC Berkeley in the fall. If I hadn't received the grade I did, I wouldn't have been able to transfer, so I am especially grateful to Cristina. Ina is just what I was looking for. I am trying to gain fluency in Spanish to help me get an edge in the job market as a fire fighter, and I realized it was not going to happen on my own. The weekly structured lessons help to push me along, and I really feel like Ina will get me to my goal. First off, she is from Argentina, so she is a native spanish speaker. Ina is not just a native speaker but an actual teacher who understands the ins and outs of Spanish grammar and explains it clearly. She is always very prepared with appropriate lesson plans, tailored to my particular learning needs. I studied Spanish in school for 15 years and then took a 20 year break and now am advanced in some areas and very rusty/completely clueless in other areas. I am student at the community college DVC. I took a Spanish 120 class on line and thought that would be enough to prepare me for a 121 class. Boy was I wrong! Typing Spanish online and speaking in a class room are two different things. I came into 121 without the necessary foundation from 120 to be successful in the class. My first test grade was an F and my second was not much better. I needed help. I found Ina online and meet her at her house to discuss my situation. I told her about the trouble I was having and she started reviewing the 120 material that I was missing with me. While at the same time applying it to the new information I was required to learn. My next test was a C. She has worked with me patiently through out this semester helping me to understand grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure. She has a masters understanding of the nuances of the Spanish language. My most recent grade is a direct reflection of the teaching she has given me. I have gone through the Rosetta Stone program which provides a good foundation but it doesn't help with grammar nor conversational nor listening skills.
