Both were excellent, made by people who know what they're doing. And the space is a nice place to hang out and drink beer. Stopped by for a beer and had some incredible samples. Went with the Sunrise, which was a real beer, tasty and complete. Love there beers. Grabbed a bbq brisket sandwich from Ventura Co. BBQ (delish) which paired actually really well. Definitely worth doing a sampling cuz this beer is well made. read more

This place has amazing brews. I am not a big fan of trying out new styles of beer, however, this place really expanded my taste buds. Their stout is smooth, their hazy ipa is fruity and refreshing, their Pilsner is crisp. I mean you really can't go wrong with their selection. First time in and I want to come back regularly. Oh my God, I had such a good time last night at Leashless Brewery. I went with Ryan Samual Carr from the Ventura County Museum of Art and we had a draw down? A murder of Artists? A gaggle of sketchers? What is the proper term for a herd of artists plopping down at a brewery and food truck? That's right, a BEVY of Artists. My 1st drawings came out terrible but I sold the last one to a paramedic. We had a LOT to talk about. That made my night and I'll be back again. I really enjoyed the bartender's knowledge and her letting me try 2 different beers, I recommend the blonde. I'm not really a beer kind of woman anymore, I like wine but this was really excellent. Also, there's a great food truck there and I loved the virgin guacamole. I'll be back! read more

For those of you who "think" you know beer Below me are some very over critical & just plain rude people dropping comments. Brewing beer is an art from, it's a science, it is very difficult to create the perfect beer, there is no such thing! I commend the brewmasters here at leashless for doing an outstanding job Someone said "all of they're beers taste terrible" which is untrue, someone else said "go find some real brewmasters" - really? I've worked in and around the beer industry for the last 5 years, I've tried thousands of beers been to a countless number of breweries, despite the hatred from others.. leashless's "twinny" Belgian is very very very tasty. I honestly believe people are so stuck in the trend of IPA's that they can't appreciate anything else. I love a good; Belgian, ale, brown, amber, Stout, I love them all. the fact that leashless is incorporating European roots with California flare In they're drinks, is awesome. There is not one place in the area the brews amazing Belgians, browns, and Stouts consistently & I get it.. because IPA's are what sells. I'm sure leashless will eventually have a great IPA tap list but I appreciate and highly dig the fact that these guys are going against the grain and saying you know what,, I got some Belgian yeast that kicks Ass, little bubble gum, dark plum, yum yum. I admit Belgians are pungy and strong, sometimes overbearing but that's what it is, if your hating for that reason shame on you, go to the liquor store, grab a 6 pack of 805 or shock top and call it a day. This place looks great, the beer is organic, the staff is super sweet, I dig what they're working towards, and the three beers that I tried were tasty... only knock, parking sucks but still leashless has cool vibes and I think there brewmasters are gna make that person below eat they're words CHEERS read more

I Love Leashless. This brewery is the 805's first and only certified organic brewery. The Island Porter is delicious. I bring two growlers when I come, one to take porter to go, and the second to take home their fresh brewed lemon ginger ale or blood orange soda. I have been traveling for the past few weeks and finally got a chance to write about my experience at Leashless Brewery. Straight to the point: this is a brand new local business that will go through some growing pains but I am convinced they are on track to be a successful small business that will positively impact the Ventura community. I was in Ventura for the weekend of the grand opening and a friend invited me to join them in the festivities. I must say I was very impresses with the brewery and everything that they did for the grand opening considering how hard it is to open a new small business in California. Talking to locals I found out that the brewery was once a car oil change/repair shop. The empty building had deteriorated to the point of being an eyesore for the community. Leashless transformed the building into what I expect to be a shining point for the downtown Ventura community. The outdoor seating area will be a favorite gathering point for locals and visitors looking to soak up the sun and enjoy the beer and atmosphere. Leashless Beer: This brewery has been open two weeks! Some of the complaints are harsh considering any new business will need some improvements over time? Give them some time to work out the kinks before bashing a new small business trying to make a difference in the community. I personally find beer and wine to be a very individual experience. There is no way I am going to let some bad review from someone who has no idea what my individual taste is sway me from trying a new place. Did I like everything Leashless had to offer - no, but I did not expect to. I won't bother you with the ones I did or did not like, because again it is all an individual taste. As with any new business, Leashless is young and needs some time to find their element and perfect their brewing process. The Leashless Grand opening: As for some complaints about charging for the grand opening, come on people, this is a small business trying to make a difference for the local community. Sorry if people expect something for nothing, but you get what you pay for. The "cover" charge was minimal for the great band that was playing and it prevented being overrun by a bunch of people looking for a free concert. It was nice to enjoy a day in the sun while being able to move around freely. The Leashless Philosophy: I had a chance to meet and talk to the owner John. He has a firm commitment to the Ventura community and believes Leashless will be able to contribute to it is a positive way. He is committed to brewing beer in a socially responsibility way. He also realizes there is a market for an organically brewed beer and gluten reduced beer. I personally have never really thought about if my beer is organic or not, but if it tastes good and is priced right then I will drink it - and Leashless does offer a great product at a fair price in an amazing environment! read more

Would like to give any rating but while they close at 10pm, just stopped by at 9:30pm this evening and the bartender said they had closed down the bar. I told him we just wanted a draft beer, but he insisted it was impossible as they had closed down the bar. FYI - when you post a close time of 10pm that means you are supposed to serve until 10pm. Despite what the employee says below, in the service and restaurant industry you serve people until closing. While you may do a last call, it had to have been before 9:30 as everything was broken down already. You just wanted to go home. Also, draft beer is pretty easy to serve. read more

The customer service was far beyond my expectations at Leashless...but the beer?! OH MY! The Coconut Hazy is HANDS DOWN the best beer I've had in a long time. I came to Ventura to visit a few of the local breweries, but this being my second stop of the day put a damper on those plans! No beer compared to that Coco Man!! We FINALLY have a go to brewery for craft brewed Belgian styles. Newest VC brewery and we finally got to stop in. The best Stout in town with Island Style a kick arse Belgian Chocolate Stout. Tripled down? with Trifin Triple, the surprise Trappist style Belgian ale with the clove-y yeast character, medium dry with apricot hints on the finish. read more

I have been to quite a few breweries and this is one my favorites for several reasons. The beers were unique, flavorful and tasty and not to mention organic. After being bummed from a small day of surf in Ventura, we decided to grab some drinks and check out this new brewery. From reading some of the negative reviews, I didn't know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised! I really like the look of the building and the fact that you can sit inside or outside in the sun. The brewery has a great ambiance and a cool vibe to it. I got a sample of all the beers and thought they were all good and i'm not even a regular beer drinker! I absolutely love the fact that the beer is organic and has gluten reduced options which is why I chose to come here in the first place. Super bummed because I was super excited about this place! It seemed so promising. We tried it out last weekend- only FOUR beer on tap. I get it, you're a new brewery, I just expected more. I guess that's my own issue. I had a sampler of all 4...they were ok. Not something I have to rush back for. I'll try it out again in a month or 2, always giving the benefit of the doubt to new places. The space is SICK!! Beautiful! Great new place in town! Friendly staff! They definitely know their stuff and are happy to explain to curious customers who want to know about their beer. I had a flight of all 5 beers when I was there. They have one IPA option and it was delicious! The Retro IPA which will be my go to from now on. Seating areas both inside and out are super spacious and comfortable. Bathrooms are clean and cool quotes are in the walls. Parking is limited but they are just one block from the parking structure. read more

I really loved this place. While it only had four beers at the time, they were some really good beers. I loved their Retro IPA. It had a delicious, citrus flavor that I will never forget. I am from AZ, so I'm hoping to return and upgrade this rating. Bartenders were friendly, but the beers were just OK. No food served, but food truck was present on the evening we stopped here. Now that Ventura has multiple micros, you can hit others for better beers. I do love the reuse of the old tire store/gas station. But that's not enough to overcome the work needed on the beers. read more

If you are a beer lover and you like really good food, this place is for you. From the outside Leashless Brewing looks like it should be a winner. The building is super cool. Once you get inside, the story changes. Even with only a few people in the place, it is loud and confusing. Do you order at the bar or sit at the table and wait for service? Where is the menu? Why is nobody inside and everyone on the tiny patio? The place essentially has DIY service, which, if you are trying to get people to drink different craft beers is maybe not the best idea. There is live music inside which is so loud that you cannot hear your own word. The musician playing while we were there seemed angry about life. The interior space is uncomfortably cavernous, too brightly lit, and too loud. On the patio you can still hear the live music which is now competing with recorded music blasting over the speakers. We moved several times and could not find a good spot. The beer lineup looks interesting. Once we figured out how to order we had our first sip and I would best describe the taste as "uneventful". We tried about 4 different beers and they were all pretty flat. The gastrointestinal reaction I had about 30 minutes later, however, was not so boring. I am not sure what is in this beer, but it ruined the rest of my evening. The folks who run Leashless Brewing need to figure out how to run a service establishment. Proper lighting, good music, proper service, comfortable atmosphere ... it all seems to be missing. Too bad, because the location has so much potential. read more

The owner aggressively threw out two men because he said they "looked homeless" and didn't want any trouble. They weren't causing any trouble and weren't even IN his establishment. They were at a taco truck in the parking lot trying to buy dinner. It isn't like you can eat your food or get a beer and run without paying, because the bar makes you pay or leave a card for your open tab, and the taco truck makes you pay before receiving your food. The two men had even explained to the owner and showed him that they had money to pay for their food (It's disgusting that anyone would have to show proof that they had money to buy anything.). Even still, the owner kept telling them to leave. When the two men asked why they were asked to leave or what they might have done wrong, the owner had no explanation of why they needed to leave and just kept staring them down telling them to leave. Later when the owner came over to my companion and I, he again said that they "looked homeless" and he couldn't allow that at his business. I would recommend not ever spending money (or supporting in any way) at this brewery. I will not support any company that discriminates towards anyone. Ever. It really upsets me that he refused to let the two men eat because they "look homeless". Homeless people can buy food. It's not a crime. Homeless people SHOULD be allowed to buy food. They need it. (Not saying those people were homeless, in fact, I ended up bumping into them later and they weren't. But even if they were homeless, the owner's behavior was outrageous and wrong.) Screw the hell out of this place. Especially the owner. Never coming back here again and warning everyone I see to steer clear of this messed up place. P.S. My wife and I have been here three times since it opened and I'm still a bit confused. As previously stated we ordered samplers and did not finish them. I'm not saying they were bad I just didn't care for them as they were lack luster and not very flavorful and no reason to stay. That's to bad because the building is really nice. You can pick some small things apart if you wish (read other posts) but those will change in time if they listen to their costumers. They seem to have had the same truck there all the times. That's ok if they're locked into them but trucks have a loyal following and can bring in fresh blood and new customers at the same time (maybe they'll change it up...I don't know). They do allow Dogs on the patio (cool)...parking seems to be limited but you can park anywhere in downtown and walk to it. Over all they're just getting started and still have some kinks to work out. I'll try again in a month or two to see if any changes take place. read more
